Yeah it's way too much. I just don't have time to sift through 300 entries so I probably just won't bother with participating.
Going through 300 entries is brutal. I don't get why it wasn't narrowed down by staff first. :x
If I have to go through literally 300 entries, I should get more than 5 votes. That's not even 2% of the total you're making me select. Just saying.
Where do we report rule breaking entries?
One of them with a broken image can be opened and viewed and is clear it isn't drawn.
Would have liked either pagination or some narrowing down. The 300 entries is quite a lot to take in at once!
300 entries? Good god, that's far too many to vote on. There's no way I can give fair evaluation to that many. It's too late for this one, but if there's ever another logo/product design contest, can it please be just an image plus a 3-4 sentence description of the product? And for the love of whoever, have less than 300 for us to vote on. WAY less. I'm thinking 20 at most.
Staff bends way too easily to user requests even when they are unrealistic (this time : "We want to see ALL the entries") and doesn't think about how unpractical it ends up being. It's the lazy way of keeping an user base happy done wrong.
How can anyone give a fair evaluation of so many entries that essentially overlap because they're all about a beer description ?
how are these features approved I just- I don't- I mean wut

I've been going by the Item Description part for voting. Not really after some long description either, but something that makes me think "Yeah, that's Subeta". There's some great snark that's getting overlooked because of pictures and wading through just under 300 entries.
I took one look at the page and noped out of there. I feel like I could read all of War and Peace before even getting anywhere to the end of that page. lmao
If the layout of that page were a little better then maybe I would actually not be intimidated by it. I don't want to be spending the better half of my time scrolling up and down. Then having to remember after everything ends up blending into each other. I'd probably just randomly choose after that. lol

So after really trying to wade through everything, in the end I ended up voting off of images as well. Sorry, but in my mind images require a little more effort than a text description, and on top of that I just couldn't handle reading through all of the different entries. I really appreciate staff trying to accommodate user requests to see all entries, but it's just a little overwhelming to try to get through everything. I personally like staff having added input by narrowing down the top entries anyway, so I hope that trend comes back for the next contest. Having multiple voting rounds could allow for a decent number of participants to still be shown in the starting round too (just not as many). In any case, a happy medium that balances the two sides would be nice.
I liked 's idea in the comments:
I'd offer only slight changes, perhaps rather than 1-10, use 1-20 to make it harder to tie with multiple other entries (unless subeta doesn't mind two rounds). You can then vote-as-you-go, no more having to try and remember which ones you liked or found funny. As you "vote" their number they'll turn green and make it easy to see which ones you still need to rate.
Do you have a rare item that just won't sell? Are you going through the high levels of Item Hunt? Or maybe you just HATE that blue bunny? Then you should join IHH helpers and IHH bargain in the forum groups!
There is definitely a distinction between being able to see all the entries and being able to vote on all the entries that got a bit lost here. Something like this would really have benefited from a staff-selected shortlist of 50 or 100 or whatever to vote on, and then showing a gallery of all the entries during Alegarten. That does open up the possibilities of people crying "I can't believe X didn't make the shortlist and Y did!", but if it means every user doesn't have to try to pick out 5 good entries out of 300, I'm all for it.
I'm really interested to see how the votes fall. I'm willing to bet the majority, if not all, of the winners are ones with images (although, to be fair, I included an image because I reasoned it would be an advantage).
I do have to admit that I probably only read about 100 of the entries completely. Then I promptly voted for the images, whether hand drawn or 'shopped from photographs, that made me go back for a second look on all but one of my votes. Only one entry with no image was able to stand out at all for me.
We did complain about not being able to see all entries, so I guess we asked for it. Yipe!
Cudos to the staff who had the patience to judge the cake and ornament contests if they were anything lie this!
Yeah it's good that we can see all the entries. The complaints would be so predictable: 'my description is way better than X! Why didn't I get through?' ad nauseam.
Voting shouldn't take more than 5-20 minutes really. I mean why would voters dedicate more time to this than people who submitted the entries when there's nothing in for them ?

I like the idea of rating each on a scale of 1-10 or 1-5. I also desperately would like pages. Dear god that wall of beer text is daunting.
It would also be nice to get some sort of indicator button. So, X it out if we know we won't like it, or check it if it's a contender for our votes. Then go onto the next page where only the contenders are there. THEN choose 5.
Just 300 at once is a bit much. I'm also sad knowing that the winning entries will probably be the ones with art. There are some beautiful drawings on there (and some not so good ones), but just because an entry doesn't have a picture doesn't lessen the quality of it. (I for one put in far too much research... I doubt many users know specific types of hops. Should've sketched something instead.)
I'm sad because I couldn't give everyone a fair chance. I do not have the time to read each description. It's similar to my college work and Subeta is a place for me to chill and forget my homework a little (it failed). To me, it was literally too much to handle and I felt like the page went on and on. I ended up voting for the ones with images and great description, which sucks because there might be awesome ideas in the description .. scattered around.
I'd have liked a grouping of ideas, honestly. Or some categories like BoB during PBoo? It felt much more interesting than throwing around the bunch and calling it a day.
Just my two cents.
