It kind of depends on how much you're willing to invest in weapons, how I see it is once you have 1-2 really good weapons, they help you a lot, and the harder the opponent the more valuable the drops, so you do earn some of it back, and weapons can always be sold on so it's not like you've sunk the sP for a total loss.
