Back in the day, there were a lot of weird items that were randomly edible or whatever. They try not to do that anymore, but they leave the old ones as they were because it would be unfair for older users to have their pets that have eaten those items but new users can't. At least that's the explanation I've seen before, something along those lines anyway.
AWW I wasn't around back in the day. I figured it was some insider joke I missed out on but your explanation sounds legit. I'll take it! ;)
Haha, well I wasn't around when that particular item was released, so it could be some kind of joke that I'm not aware of. But I know there were some plushies/beanbags that were also edible, and I've come across a few other weird things. And then there's the Universal Remote that has like all of the uses.
I do know that in the early days there didn't seem to be any consistent rules on what items could or couldn't do, like wearable books and edible plushies and all. Now they tend not to make items like that anymore, so the ones that do exist are just relics of the past.
Sweety Dead Clawsion Plushie vs Antlephore Sweety Dead Plushie
The naming in this whole string of items is way inconsistent and driving me nuts.
"Watering Pots" vs "Watering Cans"
vs
(And multiple other examples that would beleaguer the post.)
Meltoid Stocks in Minions Market and is not considered "One of the Shadowoid Brothers." even though Leafoid, Soapoid, Spaceoid, and Suspicioid all stock in the Atebus Shop and are considered Shadowoid Brothers.
Basic Math Should be named "Basic Math I" because there is a Basic Math II
Plushie (item)s Should probably have the word "plushie" after their name instead of before.
- What about this issue?
From the "Grammar Counts! Custom Clothing board:
Why does this seem to apply to CWs but not official Subeta items?
For example:
- "Of" should not be capitalized - "To" and "A" should not be capitalized [item=1,000 sP voucher] - "voucher" should be capitalized
And that's just a small, small sampling...
Seconding that I've noticed a ton of inconsistencies in capitalization in item names, but there are so many that issue could probably use a thread of its own.
I suppose it wouldn't hurt to bring them up here, but it would probably be a long time before all of them get sorted out.
Well, on the Help page there's a section that says Spelling/Grammar If you notice any spelling or grammar errors around the site, report them here!
But I don't know if that's very practical for users or staff at this point. I'm hesitant to add these issues on this thread, because like said, there are enough to have its own thread (and the OP is already pretty full). Putting them here could get really messy lol. First decide if the report forum is a better option, if not, then someone else can feel free to create a thread about the grammar problems ^^'
The grammar & capitalization issue sounds like something we could ask about (see the previous 3 posts about inconsistent capitalization in item names).
If it would be better to use the report forms or just make a thread for listing them like this one. I wouldn't mind making the thread if that would be a good idea.
You can use the Spelling/Grammar form! Ariel and I check it and do a large batch at a time so we will def see those :)
Thanks, !
Pajama(s) vs PJ
Pretty much every item like this on site uses pajama or pajamas in the item names, except for the Sushi PJ sets that come in tops and bottoms of 3 colors (green, pink, and white).
Example:
I think the PJ part of the item name should be changed to Pajama for consistency.
[edit]Another small thing.
We have and
It seems kind of weird to have the Snoman one with different spelling when every other item uses Snowman in the name, so maybe that one should be called something else?
grave robber (11 items) vs graverobber (3 items) vs grave robbery is two words
- Another inconsistency for you: Windup vs. Wind-Up
Windup
etc.
Wind-Up
etc.
Wasn't sure if this item really counted, but I just realized how confusing this item is.
Qito Sugarcubes So, these are called sugar cubes. Except, the cube is translucent, allowing you to see the Qito inside. As far as I know, sugar is not translucent. An ice cube would be, however. As seen in this item:
The description for the Qito Sugarcubes says "Hide these in an ice tray and give your friends a fright!" which furthers the question, why would you put sugar cubes in an ice tray? My suggestion: Change this item from Qito Sugarcubes to Qito Ice Cubes
edit: So it seems that the Qito Sugarcubes is an old trick or treat item, possibly why its called sugar, as its a candy? Still, the art and description paired with the name doesn't make much sense to me.
nightsky (3 items) vs night sky vs should probably be two words
Autumn Dragon vs Dragon of Autumn
The actual original minion is called Dragon of Autumn:
But there are a few items related to the minion that use Autumn Dragon in the name (ex: Autumn Dragon Plushie). Just seems weird that there would be two versions referring to the same thing, it seems like it should be one or the other.
[edit]Thought of another thing with the new Used Paint Can items: perhaps the names of the old items should be changed to match (so like, Black Paint Can instead of just Black Paint). This one isn't as big of an issue though.
[edit] I know this thread hasn't been updated in a while, but I've got a couple more things.
Dolly vs Dollie (and other items related to her character) should stay the same either way because that's her name.
I'm not sure about the other items though, because it seems like both are acceptable terms. Just thought I'd mention it and I guess staff can decide how to handle this one.
ALSO
Gold vs Golden These are both used kind of interchangeably, but my mention is specifically concerning items referring to the pet color. There are wild inconsistencies between plushies, beanbags, and lifelike dolls especially of pets that will either use gold or golden in the names.
The elixirs all use "Golden" in the name, and I think it would make more sense for all items that are using the pet color in the name to be the same for consistency.
Things that are already in the first post
Using "n" in place of "and" in item names. I don't really have a problem with this in itself, but it's not consistent.
Some items use hyphenated "n" and others don't. Viewing these items on Subetalodge by time created (link), it seems like older items use the hyphen while newer items use the "N" on its own. There are also inconsistencies with the "n" sometimes being capitalized and sometimes not (this also kind of goes along with the older vs newer items).
I would suggest going with the newer format of "_____ N _____" for item names, where the "N" is capitalized and not hyphenated and change the other item names to match that.
[edit]Another one...
Most of the Demented Torrey Plushies have their names to be "Demented _____ Torrey Plushie" such as
3 of them have the color first though, and should be changed to match the others:
