Even as 'adult' as subeta feels compared to other pet SIMS I go on the debate forum never felt like it appropriately fit in with the site.

IMO that place was a dark part of the site. I really dislike seeing stupid discussions about religion, abortion or sexuality. While I come here to distress and have fun, others come here to discuss about this bullshit. That's not how it is supposed to work. I wish I could say i'd miss it, but I cannot. I frequently found the debate forum very, very uncomfortable. I'd go there thinking I could find something decent and hey, sometimes I did. But the majority seemed to be "is this sexuality/gender/ 'real'" "is this religion/spiritual viewpoint 'real'" "is it okay to do x things that's at least mildly bigoted or hateful" "is this lifestyle choice terrible or not even though it's not hurting me" "is mental illness a real thing? I don't think so" "is this mental illness a real thing? probably not" and even the merits of truly abhorrent things.

The actual good debate and discussion wasn't worth the hate and negativity and potential triggering aspects of the forum. Everything always spiraled out of control anyway, even in the better debates. I'm happy it's gone. Makes me feel safer.

Idk, if your main reason you come on subeta is to push your personal views on somebody else, I think you're subetaing wrong.

okay clearly the majority of users did not like the debate forum, and i can totally empathize with this; people attacking your entire existence (ex. being on the lgbtq* spectrum, being neuroatypical) is a grossly dysphoric experience for many and potentially dangerous for some.

i admit tho i am a little sad and shocked that this forum is gone. i always thought it was kinda a unique part of subeta that set it aside from a lot of other virtual pet sites and made it feel very adult. i also think the majority (not all) of the people the forum attracted were really well versed on their topics. imo there were always a few really mind blowing, stimulating discussions going on in there with less triggering themes, like political debates.

actually i don't think i realized how important this forum was for maintaining my impression of the site as serious and adult.

and now that there aren't any debates allowed on the site whatsoever.. idk, is it weird that i find that kinda disturbing? subeta is the one website that i use that no one i know irl is on, and i dig that anonymity. i can't comfortably voice my umm somewhat radical views on facebook or tumblr or etc.

I did enjoy seeing the serious discussions in the debate forum, as I liked to see how people responded to certain topics. But, yes, there was too much personal attacks happening. However, the debates were never a requirement.

Again, I feel like the people that are easily offended are getting their way more and more on here.

A wise decision. Let these debates be relegated to sMail or off-site so the community doesn't become a pool of toxicity because of a misunderstanding or opinion.

As the person who mini-modded the original debate forum I can actually say that compared to when it first started it actually had mellowed out quite a bit. It used to be a pretty inflammatory forum in general, and in recent years it wasn't.

It was a lot more civil recently than it had been in the past.

That said, I always expected at some point that it would be taken away. It's one of the forums that in general had been considered to be taken off in general for years but never was. Am I somewhat disappointed it was taken off, yes. That said, I'm actually slightly glad it's gone as well since yes, it was an incendiary forum and always had been.

Definitely a little sad. I understand we want to be a community of tolerance, but in a way it also takes away from the maturity of this website.

It is what makes a free people,long story,but it stopped book burning,being arrested by the gov't if you didn't agree with them,etc...anyway,it struck a nerve with me. besides,what a boring place the world would be if we all though the same huh ? : )

I don't really understand this. If you don't like it you don't have to go anywhere near the forum.

If you dislike people debating over someones sexuality (seriously, this is ridiculous as heck and should DEFINITELY be perhibited!), then just adjust the rules or moderate a lot more strictly. Removing the debate forum entirely is something I do not agree with, although since I only just recently returned I do not know in which state it was before it got removed. Maybe this change was necessary, but me liking it? No. A few years ago when I visited it I found a lot of very insightful topics and replies. I was really impressed to be honest about how smart some people on this site are xD it was a joy to read through some of the topics.. I'm assuming it got removed because a debate or several debates went out of hand.. Maybe I'm alone with this opinion, but it feels like subeta is trying very hard to make the forum a place full of sunshine and rainbows.. It's boring. (and no, I'm not saying, that I want people to attack each other or something. But hearing other peoples opinion on topics that are not about subeta [politics, history, e.g.] can be very interesting).

In the end I can understand why it got removed. I mean, Subeta is a pet site after all, but it would still be cool to be able to discuss politics/history with other users.

I really dislike this. The debate forum could easily still meet the community guidelines if participants were respectful in stating opinions. I personally have always loved reading the debate threads; I often learned a lot about various topics and it was great to see others points of view. The debate forums made subeta feel quite mature and adult; I always really valued how subeta felt like a place where there was freedom of speech and opinion, where topics that were somewhat adult could be discussed/debated. Are we trying to make this less PG13 and more G rated so that subeta can target a younger audience (in saying that, I joined subeta when the sign up age not a minimum of 13 and I'm certain the debate forum existed then)? Were the debates really that daunting? How strict are we going to be? This gradually increasing strictness reminds me of another pet site...

Very disappointed this cultural issue was not worked through and was instead disregarded. Simply deleting the forum with little consultation with your user base is poor form. It seems like an easy option to simply delete the forum rather than actually tackle the issues at hand; if some people are "trolls" who say offensive things, I'm sure they will use other means to say offensive things. The problem wasn't the debate forum; it's the people behind the computers. The community guidelines should cover ALL areas, if people weren't following them in the debate forum the solution shouldn't be to delete the debate forum; it should be to reprimand the users who didn't follow the guidelines.

The debate forums provided an outlet for debate, and now there is no outlet. If the debate sub forums were too radical the topics could be changed or rules tightened. It's a feature many of us enjoyed. Those who did not enjoy could just as easily not click on it.
