We have one pilot on our team and the rest of us are pretty much useless when it comes to flight beyond setting an autopilot. We also have no vehicle that would be spaceworthy...so I guess the Nightowls will be using the small fighters somehow? I dunno...I find this one rather confusing unless the assumption is that all of the "ground based" teams miraculously all know how to fly small spacecraft?

HERE ARE SOME OF MY THOUGHTS ON HOW TO WORK THROUGH THIS RP ( these are not directions, just ideas)

It seemed to me that there were several options that were made for vehicle choice when we started this venture, Firefly-class vehicle ( and yes, we got this wrong at first, but after a lot of hair-pulling, chest-pounding and flogging of the knees, we retrofit the T.G. into a proper space vehicle...), bikes, and Faerie-class vehicles. Those teams with Firefly-class vehicles should be the main assault vehicles against the Dragon Ship in space.

Rowan clarified that those with bikes and Faerie vehicles will be in Tie-Fighter class vehicles. Remember: in the Maze RP, those without bikes were given generic bikes by Jedro. And in the Forrest RP, those without Faerie coaches were escorted by the Seelies. Now that we need a space fight, it seems that the same rule will apply to those who do not have a space craft, will be given a generic Tie-fighter class assault vehicle. These should be organized into escorts, or direct one-on-one (dogfight) style of battle tactics organized in squads. Some squads might be used to target specific targets such as the poison array, etc.

I propose that we come up with a basic outline for how the battle will go, e.g....

1. the captains of the different squads analyze the threat and formulate a strategy 2. squads report to battle stations and form attack groups 3. first wave of attacks seem successful 4. second wave of attacks result from the launch of the Dragon Ships secondary defense fighters.... 5. etc......

It will then be up to each team to write out how they perform their duty within the scope of their team dynamic utilizing the basic outline as simply a framework that allows for imaginative scenarios to transpire within that framework e.g.....

It was shortly after the Terrapin Glider crew took out the second main blaster cannon array on the Dragon Ship that their radar picked up hundreds of blips indicating that the enemy had launched small fighter-class vehicles in retaliation. Dace broke formation and punched the thrusters, "We'll have to regroup a little bit later for our next run, I see something. I think we can take out that communication array and relay and really mess up those fighters ability to coordinate.....

The Terrapin Glider crew could deviate from the main task, individual team members can interact with their team and devise scenarios, but stay within the framework of the battle plan.

We need to devise a reasonable battle plan outline. Then we can break back out into our groups and write out our RPs.

Again, these are just my thoughts. A lot of problems were resolved by Rowan's clarification of the vehicle issue.

Just think of this a the biggest boss challenger ever and we all have to do our bit to annihilate him.

Think the idea of tie fighters making squads is great.

Atrueheart, Fallen Angels team Captain reporting for strategy. We have a Firefly Class ship and a total of 6 crew.
Our team has already been tossing around a lot of ideas. We definitely need a battle plan and discuss divvying up responsibilities. Here is what I just put up in our private forum if this helps any:

''In the movie Firefly our Firefly class ship was NOT fitted with weapons. They attached a cannon when weaponry was needed. But since she said we have weapons I guess she assumed we already had them on board. Don't think the judges are gonna be checking our item list for this challenge so we should be good. Some of the weaponry seen in the Firefly series are laser cannons, Cutting Beams, EMP electro magnetic pulse, Grappling Hooks, one of the reavers ships had big claws that ripped other ships apart. Now Spaceships are correlated with Earth sea vessels. Think an army destroyer or battle ship. So their missiles would be called torpedoes??? It's really hard for me not to get Star Trek lingo mixed up with Firefly. Star Trek has phasers and photon torpedoes and "beam me up scotty" transporters. Firefly doesn't have phasers or transporters. They mainly used earth weapons like swords, guns and grenades. But the "government" battle ships used a targeting system and sent out missiles. The only weapon used by our Firefly crew was a mounted laser cannon with a clear screen that popped up and was used for targeting. I'm thinking we can have them mounted/already mounted like the old B51 bombers... one out the back, one on top this is where the Firefly class mounted theirs, and can always have them mounted on the sides as well. These were all manned and not controlled from the bridge. As we don't have to be exactly like Firefly and can modify our ship to mimic any of the ships in the series I'd like to add the following to our arsenal:

Cutting Beam - normally used in space mining but very effective for slicing parts off of another ship Torpedoes - what type of torpedoes and what would their effect be. EMP would be good if any of the tinier ships tries to get a grappling hook on us or board us. Problem with EMP is it temporarily knocks out every ships system. If we could figure out how to shield ourselves from the effect or somehow direct it outside and away from our ship we can avoid this problem.

We will definitely need our Mage and alchemist. Mage to counteract the magic thrown at us from the Dragon and proactive spells as well.

Now... I just watched Independence Day twice this evening with mom and the kids so bear with me. The battle should be similar to theirs in that it took a lot of fighters bombarding the larger alien ships and one lone pilot sacrificing himself to do the final blow to bring down one of their ships. And absolutely NO we are not sacrificing any of our team so don't even think about volunteering for that. To take out the "mother" ship they uploaded a virus and brought down the shields and then bombed it from within. Boom went the mother ship. My point is it's going to take a combined effort to bring the Dragon down. The Dragon is a much bigger ship than any of the ships we built. I like how Laurie talked about divvying up the attack and each team going for a different part of the ship. Now all teams are up in the air, per GR, the small flyers attacking their small flyers and our ships attacking the dragon. I will be conferring with the other Team Captains to discuss the divvying up and coordinating the battle.''

The ship for the Chimeriad is focused more on manoeuvrability than speed if that helps any for the firefly ships. When we made the vehicle it was crafted with 2 large anti-matter laser cannons mounted on the front and a manned turret above the cockpit. I'd hope that we have the firepower to make a dent in that thing. ^u^;;

We can make good speeds but it might be best if our ship is in the second wave or something so that some of the Death Dragon's defences have been taken care of so we can hit it hard.

To other team captains in the tie-fighters, if the situation arises and your ship gets damaged we could fit one of them in our cargo bay and help with repairs + help heal your crew if this is something you'd be interested in.

The Black Swan is also a misunderstood vessel and was deemed Firefly class when we intended on making a fairy class vehicle. So our ship is also being modified and outfitted with the proper armaments needed to complete this battle. I will post the updated version ASAP. She is a pretty large vessel with a current crew compliment of 6 people. We are happy to help out in any way possible. Just let me know how you wish to proceed.

Are these Tie fighter individual.. or we are talking of the entire team in one? I had read no life support so all would have to wear some kind of space suit correct?

: Tie-fighter class vehicles are one user only craft. They have blasters on them that shoot forward. If you watch the Star Wars battle scenes where the Tie-fighters were used, the pilot had to aim his fighter at his enemy and pull the trigger, the blaster doesn't swivel on gimbals. Very much akin to the machine guns mounted in the wings of a Spitfire or Mustang P-51, fast, maneuverable and deadly, with one pilot only.

I know some might be thinking: "Well, I'm not a pilot, I can't fly." for whatever reason. But for the sake of getting this battle done, maybe we should adopt some some sort of Deus Ex Machina or Ass Pull in order to suddenly make everybody capable of flying a spaceship. Maybe everybody gets a Matrix-like "download" giving them sudden and complete knowledge of flight and dog-fighting abilities. Maybe Jedro can accomplish this when he gives each person their own fighter. Maybe the fighters just know how to fly on their own and just need someone to sit inside and point them in the right general direction. We can all work this out. ( to answer 's question directly, [ giggle ] ...oops, Captains aren't supposed to giggle in the war room....[ silently dunks cookie in whiskey] )

: Right! There are three types of enemy ships. I'm just listing our resources for right now for everybody to get an idea of what we have and what use they would be in a first wave attack against the Dragon Ship, with the notion that the second wave might involve the smaller enemy ships and the third wave might include their firefly-class ships coming in for the kill before the Dragon Ship attacks the Seelie Realm unhindered. I think our battle is going to take on some similar characteristics to ID4 and StarWars battles. ( specifically, The Return Of The Jedi )

I'm hoping we can start laying out the battle plan tonight.

We could have a bunch of steampunk-like faeries, or something that can go along with any characters who wouldn't otherwise know how to operate a ship.

: That is a very interesting idea that might work and would be a perfect Deux Ex Machina for your team to use. Good thinking.

So a member of the fellowship jumping in here. My character is an archer, primarily. How would I steer and shoot arrows? Thoughts on this for those of us who do most of our battle with a bow?

.. thanks for that information. There will be two of us that won't be flying.. perhaps they can have some sort of remote control to assist.. we are working on that concept for the team unless someone has other ideas.

well crap. Technically under that my character could probly do it, since I've outlined she's an assassin but dark elves aren't seelie or unseelie so pretty sure it was stated like that so we can't do that lol. I'm honestly at a loss here. I guess we'll go back to the drawing board and see what we can come up with. Star-wars type battles is just not really something I can see anyone of my group doing. o.0 But we'll still take the poison array. Just dont know how to work it lol

: x-wing, y-wing, tie-fighter...meh! They are all in the same class. Just as those of us with no bikes had to settle on whatever junk Jedro put between our legs, those with no large space craft are going to have to settle on whatever Jedro has that can fly and shoot. Personally, if I had designed our craft, I would have chosen The Heart Of Gold with it's powerful Improbability Drive and Marvin the Depressed Robot...but alas. At least my generic bike rode long and hard and lasted the entire scene right up to the climax of the battle. I was very satisfied with it's performance and wanted to keep going. Bikes like that only come once in a persons life though.

Tie-fighter class is just the generic name of the class of fighter, single seat, fixed wing, light armament, looks like two flying waffles.

: Use those archery skills to line up the targeting device in your fighter. Some will be good at targeting enemies, others will be awesome.

: Your group can still take out the poison array, you will just have to shoot it out from your fighter. A mage and any others with magic could use those abilities from within their craft, like Darth Vader or Obi Wan did. Use the force Luke. Personally, I see this as a very important task, probably the most important first task to undertake as it will save those on the ground first. It may take several squads, some to attack the array first, some to fend off the enemy who have determined our intent.
