I wouldn't say I collect, but I definitely do have a weakness for pretty foreign names! Especially Spanish/Italian/French ones. :)
I have a few little sets c:
Bird names: Raven, Pigeon, Starling Nature: Foxglove, Basilby, Chamomile, Radish, Coriander, Clove, Peas, Pimpernel, Privet, Wood Names from books: Rah (Watership Down), Claudio (Much ado about nothing), Willoughby (Sense and Sensibility), Baskerville (hound of the) Disney names: Disney, Snow White, Giselle, Toulouse
I'm not sure I could organise my other names into much of a list, although I have a few friends who just seem to understand the kind of thing I like. Whimsical? I've recently started adopting made up names, because I feel guilty about taking names and then having blank profiles. But I don't feel guilty about Tattersail, Anelia, Molligog or Fiola. Oh I'm also getting into middle eastern names, after reading some books set in the middle east and falling in love with the names. So I have Yashika and Himal. Gosh I still have like 20 more pets that I haven't spoken about.
Heh, I looked up the name Noah the other day and was like, "Well darn, guess that one isn't going to clear any time soon." ;P
- hahaha, there are some of my names that I really would consider giving up due to my lack of time for them, but Noah is unfortunately not one of those! Man so much to write for him still, though.
Oh yeah, wouldn't think of asking for it :) I was just brainstorming names for a Blacklight or Spectrum Harvester. MUST HAVE ONE, just haven't thought of a character yet :D
I've been collecting phobias for almost as long as I've been on Subeta. I stopped that once I stopped collecting pets in general. Kind of sad, tbh, since I'm not particularly attached to a lot of my pets anymore. Oh well.
bird and bear and hare and fish give my love her fondest wish
I've got a thing for super common american real names. How boring.
Ahhh all your E pets are so neat! That is dedication!
That's too bad, that is a really neat name collection to have and they have really interesting profiles, I think I was looking at a few of them the other day. But interests change over time. Do you think you're gonna hold on to them in hopes you get back into them?
Oh wow I did not know that, thanks for telling me. I just thought it was a pretty looking word, and it's fun to write in cursive, so I scooped him right up when I saw him in adopt r us. (I've been admiring your pet profiles and treasures all day btw, lovely and inspiring work you've done on them)
I've been feeling the draw to made up names too, they have a nice pleasantness to say out loud when you find a good one, and it reminds me of when I first joined Subeta and all my pets where made up names. I miss it and I felt more creative in a way back then, I wish I could tap into my teen self's enthusiasm when it comes to making characters on pet sites.
I thought about adopting them out a few times, but ... I mean I already spent ALL. THAT. MONEY. on the slots. Like, back before the huge price cut on pet slots. So I'll keep them. Once [user=doc-roe] comes back from vacation and is accepting commissions again I'll probably get a dragon on fire for Pyrophobia. I want to get some art for Cibophobia.
If I ever did get rid of any pets, it'd be more likely to be my non-phobias. Aeval, Triple Helix, Swashbuckler, Moskovskaya ... Names I thought were cool at the time but now have even less of an attachment to.
Pacifist, Cibophobia, Syth and Kuhrunah will be with me for as long as I'm on Subeta, though. My battle pet, my gourmand, my demon who I am absurdly attached to for no real reason what so ever, and my stupid first pet with his stupid first name that doesn't even MEAN ANYTHING
bird and bear and hare and fish give my love her fondest wish
I don't really have a preference, only that the names appeal to me.
When I first started I went for fan names. I still have a few of them. I can't get rid of them considering they're like over 5 years old and I'm attached to them. So I've been slowly trying to turn them into OCs. Well, except for Son Goku and Putin. I think among the first pets I created I only had one real world name, Deirdre. Yay for spamming the creation page until I hit a free name. lol
I then went for made up names. I think its weird that one of my "made up" names is actually a real name and word. Even more that I also found out recently it was used in Star Trek: Deep Space 9 as a Bajoran word. All these years later and I probably had that word lurking in the back of my mind. It's my pet Sirah.
So yeah, I have a mixture of names. Long names, short names, two words/first and last name, even one with a dash in it.
"Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't feel Just because I don't feel doesn't mean I don't understand" IAMX- The Unified Field ....... "Plastic people don't got nothing to say They're judging me, I'm judging you We ain't got nothing else to do" Palaye Royale - No Love In LA | | |
I'm currently obsessed with finding real words for pet names. I never adopt a pet that doesn't immediately draw me in. Names that inspire unique characters are so fun to work with and each of my pets need some outlining before I can really get started, but not a single one is lacking a design. Some of them are just more concrete than the others and get worked on faster xD
i collect (also sort of hoard whoops) real names which is definitely not as interesting as most of the stuff people have posted here! no particular reason. no idea when it started. just sort of started happening and now i'm up to almost 40 of them i think??
I have mostly all RW pets except for a few that i created way back in the day that i just cant let go of. ^-^ Lisia for example was my first ever angelic pet. That was a major accomplishment back then.

all of my pets are hidden so it would be hard to tell what my 'theme' is - but i'm definitely a collector of real word pet names. especially since most of my favorite names (oc and fan pet) are very common names (i.e. heather, chloe, henry) and i'll never get them, it's nice to have a backup plan for them with using real words. i personally prefer long names (mannequin/hallelujah) but i have a few pets with shorter names. the only pets i have that don't fit into that 'theme' are mythology based & a single pet with a japanese name.
36 of 42 pets are real words. 16 of those real word pets are military/war themed or could be considered adjacent to that theme.
All of my pets represent off-site stories or will once I get them written down. Right now, many of them have blank or almost blank profiles and some are base colors but they'll all get TCs and character-related color/species eventually.
I have a couple of gods/creatures from different pantheons: Fenris, Hyperion, Hypnos, Morpheus, Poseidon, Prometheus, Tyr, Viracocha, Zeus
Apart from that I just go for names that give me ideas I guess though I seem to favor certain letters; I have 6 names starting with H and S for example. XD
Most of my pets just have real names, but I do have a few themes going.
Element-related: Ember, Windy, Flurry, Storm
Stars: Vega, Draco, Altair
Theology: Uriel, Lucifer, Asmodai, Ezekiel
Misc. mythology: Mordred, Hel, Icarus, Perseus
I used to have a lot of real names and I've kept my favorites (Radcliffe, Issac, Mephistos...), but these days I prefer RW names. I'm particularly proud of Villain, Broadsword, and Throne. I feel like the RW names have more versatility when coming up with characters after old plans fall through--but that has more to do with me being unable to have two characters that share a name. :X
Lately, I've adopted two fan pets and I've been thinking about getting a third. That may or may not be the direction I'm headed next.
I love dark RWs and FF13 names: Naught, Goth, 666, Grieve, Ice, Serah, Vanille, Yeul, Sazh
I also have two Witcher RW/Ns: Ciri and Leshen
Then some LoZ: Rupee, Ruto, and Chest
KH: Ansem
Extras: Plankton and Mansion
I am always looking to add more Dark RWs and of course more video games names and words <3
