I did it because I accidentally checked the "ping favorite friends" just above the post button and didn't notice until it was too late. I was updating the Quest-a-thon timekeeping, but I know I did it for at least one another totally irrelevant thread

Or "Are you sure you want to bother your friends"? (Or in my case "Are you sure you have friends to bother", beacause they're mostly inactive) Actually I wish I'd seen this hours ago, instead of playing obsessive, unsuccessful rounds of Caliph's Tomb, because I puzzled it out with a friend of mine who kept doing the same thing, two weeks back. So for once, I'd have had a quick and definitive answer. Shucks.

it was my first answer, but it's hard to say definitively without the OP recognizing the person on their friends list lol I had to cover all of the bases though by mentioning the other situations where you can get a ping without having your username in the post.
