okay so this is just sort of me brainstorming, i'm not sure that this will turn out to be a good idea at all but i figure it's worth thinking about because who knows if something neat will come of it…

what if there was some sort of "elemental" color for pets? i mean i know we have reborn which is fire, glade which is plants, nightmare which is shadow, and storm which is clouds/rain/lightning. but what if there was a color in which pets would actually appear to be "made" of a certain element or substance? and it wouldn't be the same for every pet; different pets would be made of different "materials" based on what would be most interesting/appropriate for their species. that being said, they don't need to necessarily be literally "made" of the substance; they could simply reflect properties of it, with some of the element around them, much like reborn does with fire or glade does with plants.

elements could include water, wood, stone… idk, anything that could look cool (and hasn't already been done), really. what do you guys think? anyone have any ideas? again, like i said, it might not be a good idea at all, and i know a lot of people feel that pets shouldn't be "made" of anything and should remain actual animals (with the exception of nostalgic). but who knows, maybe something worthwhile will be derived from discussing it.

Stone golem-like pet color

I'd still kill for a stone golem pet color. Or magma. Water does nothing for me, and it doesn't make sense to include flames on another pet color since we already have reborn. (Some people have argued against magma in the past because of reborn, but I still think there's enough of a difference to make it work.)

I don't think "element" would work as its own color because of the potential overlap with other colors. I think any new color should be more focused than that.

Because Subeta allows overlays, any proposal for a new color should be consistent and the same all across the board. This idea calls for several different colors so while it is pretty interesting an idea, it's not suitable.

If you are saying it could be any element, you are saying it could be anything. Find an artist, get an overlay and make your own pet that anything.

Having too many element options for the same color wouldn't work very well. I mean the idea isn't a bad one, it just doesn't seem like it would translate very well? We do have Reborn (fire) and Glade (earth/nature) as far as elemental pets go. I still love the idea of a stone/golem color though.

so by that logic, nostalgic shouldn't exist because it's not consistent and if you really wanted your pet to be one of those things you could just get an overlay… look, i'm not saying it HAS to be different for different species, i just thought it would be kind of cool because it creates more interest and surprise when new species come out in that color; it's always fun to see what the latest nostalgic pets are referencing, way more interesting than if they were all generic-looking plushes.

so fine, make several different colors, whatever. but the whole "just get an overlay" argument doesn't really hold water. "oh, you want your pet to be made of fire? get an overlay. oh, you want your pet to be green and covered in flowers? just get an overlay. what's that, you think your pet would look good as a rocking horse? i'm sorry but that's just too unique, overlay that shit."

I'm thinking more literally here, but I'd go for an actual elemental pet as in element off the periodic table. Mercury, magnesium, etc. Minerals, gems, alloys, that sort of thing, so that the theme is at least consistent but different enough from the other colors. The site really blew me away with its mineral cash shop bonus wearables, so I'd love to see that translate to pets. ;O;

It's consistent in that all the pets are toys, and those wouldn't work well as different colors. (Rocking horse color, plushie color, action figure color...)

With an elemental color, there's too much overlap with other existing colors (reborn, glade, and glacier) to work. I'm not saying you need an overlay, just that any future element-based colors need to be more specific.

Again, magma and stone would have my full support. But those should be two distinct colors.

So lemme try to understand your idea, cause I'm actually very confused right now. By elemental pet colour, like water for example, the pet would appear as if it were made out of water? I hate to bring comparisons, but kinda like Neo's water colour? obviously Subeta's would be way cooler.

Or with wood, the pet would essentially be a wooden totem carved into the appearance of the pet?

If you have any visual aids, that'd be very helpful. Atm I don't see why a pet made out of fire would be unique, when we already have Reborn pets.

well that's why i didn't suggest a fire pet, or one made of grass and flowers for that matter.

yes, my general idea was that the pets could look like they are 'made of' the color, kind of like neopets (but better). a wooden pet could look like it's carved, or like a tree grown into the shape of the pet, sort of like… well, sort of like neopets' woodland color - maybe including leaves or even flowers and rocks, but that might overlap with glade too much.

a water pet could appear to be made of water, and have a flowy, floaty pose… but it could also be more interesting than just "made of water." maybe they could contain sea life, shells and sand, that kind of stuff. various parts of the pet could 'splash out' like waves or sea spray, but water wouldn't necessarily be the only aspect of them (or it could be, whatever).

I could definitely see the wooden and water ones overlapping a bit close to Glade and Hydrus respectively, but I like the ideas otherwise!

I kinda like the idea but for the Water thingy, I saw a thread a while ago about a "Beach" pet and I would prefer that (please if someone has the link to that thread that would be great).

A pet just "made" of an element...I just find it weird to think of (so I am not imagining a pet looking like Surge aka. the creepy buddy in the post upper here :P ). I don't know how it'd be 'alive' if it is just a kind of material ?! Like if it is water you can put your hand through it or something...Well, I know they are pixels but that's mostly the water that I find weird. See for the Reborn colour, the pets are not made of fire but they are normal pets with some kind of flames around so I would not see a pet made ALL of water.

So for the Beach colour : it would have the colours of the Sandragon, but I'd see things around the pets like seashells... seaweed... etc.

I don't really support the Golem colour mentionned upper here because for me again, it is a material, not an actual pet with specific proprities. I know in video games, movies and mythology, we've seen such creatures but I can't think of them to be 'truly' alive...I mean...THEY ARE ROCKS COME ON :P Like I said, I would rather see a pet with some kind of colours and AROUND it, things that are specific to the colour. Like Glade pets are normal pets but with flowers and grass around them, that sounds more logical to me.

[edit]About elemental pets, it reminded me some pet site I joined a couple of months ago. I played it like 1 day or 2. It was just for my friend to get the referral but I wasn't really into it. It was pretty interesting though : you had some kind of elemental pet (I can't really remember) and you could breed the pets (yes I am serious lol) and it could result that you'd have in the end a new pet, result of the breeding between two different elemental pets (eg Carbon + ??? = Diamond ... uh my memory is bad I'm sorry :c ) It is super interesting but not easy to make at all. Firstly it means an enormous amount of new pet colours to create and TO DRAW (for the artists), plus the names of the colours to find... and also, it'd mean it would have as a consequence : more pets per users (and we're already limited in pet slots) and I don't know if we are really ready to breed pets together lol, that sounds weird especially when there are kids playing on here, I don't know. :P

[edit]I mean, don't ever think I would like something like that. I love the pet system as it is right now on Subeta. No need of breeding pets uhh...

Going on a minor tangent, yeah, I wouldn't see any point in being able to breed Subeta pets. I don't see my guys as pets, but as characters. Not to mention making something like breeding an actual feature would require a lot time and resources, all of which would be better spent elsewhere on improving the site. xD

well, when we have pets like the dillema or the nostalgic color that are supposedly "enchanted" inanimate objects (i.e. toys) in order to be alive, i don't see why we couldn't have pets made of stone or water or whatever.

I understand your point of view but as I said, for me a "Water" pet should be about water but not made of water like a Fire pet is a pet not made of fire but with flames around it, a Nature pet is a normal pet with flowers around, a Weather pet is a normal pet with clouds/storms around, a Candy pet is a normal pet with candyfloss around, Bloody pet is a normal pet with blood all around, etc. Then I know that Nostalgic and Steamwork are special because they are not 'normal' but I am most okay believing that a robot or a plushie/toy can be alive because they are things that actually exist (I am speaking physically, there are toys, plushies IRL) and you can hear in stories for kids or fairytales or whatever that they can come to life. But I don't believe in a pet that is just an element. If we go back to the Water pet, I don't understand how it can even exist, I mean how water is mean to walk/run/jump/etc. ? (well as far as they are pixels, we're still assuming they are alive lol :P) That's why I also find the Golem a weird idea. I know they are meant to be able to move, I just find it weird to think of some big rock walking, you know ?

I'd love a spectral pet. You know, like a ghost, not rainbow. Or a lumos(HP)-like pet. But Nicki is okay, she's jus green like da dollas :P

Oh yeah, that's pretty cool. I agree, ghosty thingies could be coolish. Then I guess lots of people will be like "meeh there is Nightmare, they are creatures from your worst nightmares like ghosts" but yeah, I think something like a Patronus could be coolish, nothing "evil spirit ish". I would think it should be called Spirit and this could work, not as an element but some people believe in spirits so it could be "believable and exist" on Subeta. Gosh I hope my reflections are not too confusing e.e
