There are too many items on this wishlist. Change your default wishlist to one with less than 500 items.

This is the message that I got when trying to add another item to my Unsorted category. When was this implemented and why weren't we told about it?

It'd be nice that when we use the add/remove feature when hovering over an item you could choose where you put the item instead of it winding up in the default "unsorted" category. Yes, I'm sorta contradicting myself on new features, but seeing as WLs aren't a new feature but already on site, it'd just be a way of bettering a pre-existing feature.

Digressing, but when in the world did this become a limit?

I think this is a good thing considering that wishlists stop loading once they get too big. It's easy enough already to move things into categories and it's not like we have a limit on those. I don't see what the problem is.

Well the site update group was pinged so it's not like it was a secret. You can have more than 500 items on a wishlist category, just not on the default by using the +wishlist option. You can however keep manually adding things to the list by adding them by name.

I think it's pretty good considering that big wishlists have made my browser completely glitch in the past.

At least it isn't 500 total. Can you imagine how limiting that would be? xD I agree with what said.

I feel like 500+ item wls aren't really doing anyone a service if they freeze browsers up.

Tbh I don't see why anyone would need more than 500 items in a default category. Collection categories, sure, but you can add those without them being the default if you really need to (or you could just make two categories)

Yeah if it were 500 total we'd have some issues. But 500 in one category is gonna murder browsers anyway so what's it hurting?

I am in the siteupdate group and never received a ping for the WL change so being a member of said group doesn't always help these days. As for the WL limit itself, I can easily live with it. I think there aren't even 500 items on my whole WL...

Just to clarify: the limit is 500 items per category.

If you're a person that loves to use your wishlist, you can still have all the items you want, but you need to make sure you sort them into categories. You could always have a "Wearables pt. 1" and "Wearables pt. 2" wishlist if you really need.

forum group pings should get fixed. but if something like this happens, you should probably check here

I find this a great idea if it helps fix issues with wishlists. if you fill up one wishlist category, you just make another category called part 2

I've visited people's WLs that have crashed my browser or froze my computer. I'm running a new gaming rig w/ generally p good internet. THAT SHOULDN'T HAPPEN. In fact, it's never happened anywhere but on Subeta.

If this change fixes that, then fucking great! It was silly to have it unlimited in the first place, just like unlimited shops and galleries and free beer were silly. Subeta needs more fixes like this, that don't affect usability for the majority of players while they improve overall stability.

Personally I'm excited! There have been times when I could not for the life of me access my wishlist categories because there was no limit enforced-- and then one day it was too much for the server to handle without any warning. It's nice to be told when it becomes an issue that starts affecting the wishlist's usability.

The tiny changes that have been happening have been exciting to me though. Between yesterday and today they added in a total number for your cateories-- which I find a great way to keep tabs on wishlists and to recognize when a category might be getting too full. As far as I'm aware you can still have all the categories you like-- I mean I currently have 51.

This is going to make me finally sort out my giant wishlist, so I consider it a good thing :) they're not actually limiting the number of items you can add, just the amount per category, which I find more than fair.

Because we need limits on certain aspects of the site. Keith has mentioned in the past when he initially created the site, he did not implement any limits because other pet sites (aka Neo) had annoying restrictions.

Fast-forward 11 years, and now he's realized the reason why limits are necessary. ( you're better at explaining the technical side of this)

It's about time limits were placed on WLs. 500 is plenty reasonable in my book. Everyone will simply need to be more conscious about clearing out their WLs if they wanna add more items.

That, and no loner will WLs kill my poor browser! xD

Granted, I think this should have been announced in the news (as I can't even join the stinking site update ping group for some reason), I don't see where this is entirely a bad thing. I've been on WLs that have hung my browser and while I love the opportunity to have a lot of things from which to choose when buying for that user, having so many things in one page means that I can't do it very often. This change is a welcome one, for me.

I still want to reiterate that things need to be announced in the news, but other than that, I have no complaints with this change whatsoever.

Just to confirm for everyone, the limit only applies to the default wishlist. I was able to move new items into my 700+ item SubQ wishlist category with no problem at all.

Since this only applies to the default list, I really don't see the problem and think this is a good change. My computer handles huge lists pretty well but still encounters a small amount of lag with my largest ones. I've come across some people who have so many items in a single wishlist that it crashes even my browser though, which means most people aren't able to look at those lists anyway. All in all, this seems like a good thing to me.

The limit only applies to the +wishlist below items. It does not apply to moving or adding things manually. That is why it gave you no problem!

I'd have preferred if it automatically split our 'Uncategorized' category (like Uncategorized, Uncategorized (1), Uncategorized (2), etc) but this really isn't much different. It puts a teeny bit more work on the user.

Mostly I am hellaciously glad I can even see/sort my WL again. A large part of the reason it got so huge was sorting stopped working.

Also, perhaps ping groups should be the next target? Because while I agree # siteupdate is useful (perhaps even overused at times) and important, those pings do love to fail. It'd be much more forgiving for it to be so relied on if it was reliable itself (I also think it would be nice if 'official' ping groups had their own box in forum notices, or at least an option).
