I'm close to a point where I feel like a bad person for doing my quests...XD
Anyway, maybe staff should have put in a limit right from the start. Like, you can stock up a maximum of let's say 750 QPs and that's it until you spend some points. That way there'd be no "massive hoarding" and new users would now have the same chances that we had when the Quest Shop came up. Not sure if that's still an option, I know that I'd have no issue with being capped and losing most of my points but I can only speak for myself.
I don't like this idea. I'd have to use points on items I don't want and which are useless to me. I suppose I could sell the items but as I've already got over 4.5 billion sP with nothing to spend it on it would be a lot of bother when I don't have a GA at the moment. (I can no longer cope with pricing stuff by hand)
You wouldn't have to spend your points, you simply couldn't earn any more once you reached the maximum until you buy something. Once you'd buy something you could earn the spent amount in QPs again until hitting the maximun once more and so on.
Never thought of that - my excuse is that I haven't had enough coffee this morning to get my brain working. :)
I hate the idea of special currency points becoming rarer just because some people have a lot of them. I've got 1,211 Vesnali Coins because there wasn't much in the shop I wanted to buy. Does than mean everyone is going to be punished next year by Vesnali Coins being harder to come by?
Also, you don't get to have a lot of currency by spending it. If you "hoard" currency, surely increasing the cost of an item won't do anything because you still aren't spending. Likewise making it scarce doesn't prevent "hoarding". Now it just takes longer to stock pile.
At this point I would prefer a cap on how many QPs you can have until you start spending some of it.Anything would be so much better than what is being done right now.I have many different items I would like to buy but can't.
Like a good neighbor, stay over there!

I agree with , I'm personally going to be a lot thriftier about spending my QP since I'm not getting as many. I'll also probably set the bar higher for items I feel I "need" to get. Either way, it won't discourage me from hoarding. It'll discourage me from buying. :/
I do appreciate what they're trying to do, but... hmmm.
Quest Point You have 2,852.
I feel bad for the fact that I actually do what staff wants, participate, when I get like over 100 of any special currency. Whenever I see the "Some users have too much. Nerf!" I'm all, "Well, sorry for playing on the site like I normally do." :/
I can't help that I have a hoard of quest points. There's nothing in the shops at this moment that I need or want. In fact I once tried to bring my points down by buying out Carl's shop. I really didn't want the items but that was the only shop I never touched. I'm picky over what I'd buy. TCs come first followed by books (as I have 5 copies of each to buy) then wears.
"Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't feel Just because I don't feel doesn't mean I don't understand" IAMX- The Unified Field ....... "Plastic people don't got nothing to say They're judging me, I'm judging you We ain't got nothing else to do" Palaye Royale - No Love In LA | | |
staff specifically said they were not basing any decisions around that, because those people are far above and beyond the average user and there's very few of them.
Please explain to me how this is even remotely a good plan...
To give some perspective- the number of tokens I need to buy the items on my wishlist (which is 90% books from the shop, with a handful of wearables that I love) is 535. That's the minimum. Doesn't include future items or even all the items from every shop. And how many points do I have now? 50. I've never had more than ~65 tokens. Over the last week, I've been questing like mad to get page views for flowers. I've earned maybe 10-15 tokens.
This is unacceptable.
Yes, QPs should be "difficult" to get, so that they're rare. Collecting items from the shop should take effort and dedication.
However... ARE WE NOT DEDICATING ENOUGH EFFORT FOR YOU?!
If you wanted it to be difficult, well, CONGRATULATIONS! You've succeeded! You've put thousands of tokens worth of items in the shop (beautiful and useful items too!), while simultaneously making it next to impossible for an average user to ever get said items.
All I can think of, then, is that there aren't enough site artists. If points are made more difficult to come by they won't have to keep putting a lot of new items in the QP shops.
HI EVERYONE, Sorry for taking so long to respond to this! This was a little bit of a strange change, and I wanted to see how it went out before I made any tweaks to it. You should see the amount of QPs increase over the course of this week.
The prize structure of the "new quests" meant that newer quests (or quests that had been turned over to the new system more recently) gave more points than the ones first moved to the new system. That means knowing that (or having observed that) you had a 1/3 chance with some quests, 1/5 with others, 1/7 with others, and 1/9 with others. So I ripped all of that out (since now most quests give QPs) and made it across the board and started high, because I wanted to see how many went out a day with a unified system.
It looks like I started way too high, and I just pushed a change to make it a little bit lower, and I'll continue to tweak it throughout the week. This wasn't really a response to people having too many of them, but too many going out if you did all of the quests available on the site per day. I do need to find a middle ground on people who only do one set of quests (or fewer) and people who do all of the quests (maybe make it a little bit harder with each one you earn, but not that much - a slight decay in chances) but I'm going to work on that as we go forward :)
(I also like the idea of a "maximum" amount of points you can hold at a time!)
[edit]
Also, another (actually good!) change made here. Because all of the currency prize code was separate per quest before, only some of them gave out more QPs during the weekend special quest. Now all of them have a unified QP prize structure and give out more QPs on the weekend :)!

I really hope the bar is set super high on that max. I hate the idea of being told I have to spend my points when there is nothing I want.
Apologies for the ping on top of the quote. I meant to click on the edit post button.
Why not put a greater variety of items in the shops so the range appeals to more people? I've started a topic about it in the Item Suggestions forum. It's likely that others will add to it. After all, I doubt that many players want to collect all the facial hair items from Carl's shop but some would like pirate themed stuff.
Why aren't quest points a constant - You do X quests, you get a point - where X is always the same value, rather than being yet another RNG thing?
Also, wider variety? I hate to break this to you, guys, but we have pretty much every single category of item in the quest shop already?
We have multiple stickers, multiple wearables, multiple minions, multiple books, we have beanbags, we have plushies, we have foods. It's true we don't have trading cards and such, but the problem with the qust shop is not lack of diversity.
I mean
sticker
food
minion
wearable
plushie
beanbag
If your rationale is "I HAVE 1500 POINTS AND WELL I'D BUY MORE THINGS IF THERE WERE MORE COLLECTABLES", keep in mind there is someone who has as many points as you who wouldn't buy a single of these collectables. No, they are going to be "I HAVE 1500 POINTS AND WELL I WANT MORE WEARABLES BUT ALL WE GET IS BEANBAGS"
There are pretty of things where there is not enough diversification, but the quest shop is not one of these things.
NO PLEASE not a maximum!!
I think having them become rare as you get them throughout questing is probably a great solution, since some people seem to greatly favour some quests and totally disregard others. This lets people who aren't doing them all everyday get some qp reliably and lets people who do want to give it their all get a decent perk out of it, that's what compromise is :D.
i love rng, sorry :(. if we get rid of rng, praying to rngesus before i finish each quest will do nothing for me :(. (this is slightly sarcastic but i really do like rng)
Also, we dont have any weapons whistles and battle quests could give out qps whistles and they could be made ridiculously expensive to give something worthwhile for the people who aren't spending otherwise to buy and sell or use whistles I know that won't happen, but I can dream :P.
I meant a greater variety in style. I started a topic in the Item Suggestions forum for things that people would like to see.
For example, some years ago we had a range of torture implement toys for Morostide. Why can't Quentin have some more things like that in their shop? After all, they're supposed to be a demon. One of my pets would love an iron maiden (not a cuddly plushie version) and a guillotine for her treasure chest.
On my kindle so I can't quote things but I appreciate the increase in quest points now but please do not add a maximum to the number of points to be held. I'll probably never hit it but it's not really fair to those who aren't interested in the items and just let them accumulate
