The meetup I went to is one that hosted in Raleigh. I stayed for a few hours I think, but we were just sitting in the grass in the middle of a park, so no con around us to distract and tempt us away. (even though there was a strange outdoor concert nearby and we were all like o_O). I know it doesn't sound like much fun but it was pretty good, I get nostalgic about it from time to time like a big loser.
If there was another conveniently close to where I live again, I would go. Even though I already have the achievement and whatever. Con or no con. Keith should visit his family again and then have another meetup |D
It sucks that people are acting like dicks at a meetup. I mean what even? Why? ._. I hope those new community guidelines will be enforced / reminded of at meetups, though it should be common sense not to act so foolishy...

MEET UP AT PAX AUSTRALIA, PLEASE
I wouldn't be able to go for too long because I'm an Enforcer, but it'd be great to spend some time with other Subetans, I'm sure there have to be some in Aus somewhere!
Hunting for: (It's the only beanbag I need for a full collection!)
To be perfectly honest, if I was going to spend money on a ticket to go to a con I wouldn&;t want to hang out at Subeta&;s booth for an hour just for an achievement.
People come to hang out with other Subeta users, that's the whole point of hosting meetups. I don't think anyone has come to one that I've run, added themselves to the list of people who need the achievement, and immediately left. You hung around for way more than an hour at the one in London, I think!
In my experience (and I was just at PAX in Boston, one of the biggest conventions of the year) I really enjoy going to the booths for small/indie games that I enjoy (which is the same small section that Subeta would be in) and chatting about them.
Don't get me wrong, if there was another London meetup, I'd probably come and hang out. I enjoyed myself both times immensely! But if I were to drop money on a convention ticket, I would want to see EVERYTHING and although I wouldn't mind popping by the Subeta booth to chat and say hi and maybe chill for 15-20 minutes, an hour would be to long, in my opinion.
I do hope there are more meetups, they are fun!
I suppose it would be one of those things where if you want the achievement that badly, You'd stick around for an hour, but really that kinda stinks for people who want to go and do things at the con - it would, how can I put this, maybe make them feel forced to stay and then they wouldn't contribute as much?
Like the London ones were great, because it was gorgeous out and we all sat around in the grass talking and having a great time without needing to be anywhere else. I don't know if I'm explaining this well, one sip of coffee does not an awake brain make.

Would doing an online Skype/Google Hangouts/Whatever meetup be possible?
Headshot by

I remember when I first joined subeta a year and a bit ago, I saw in the old forums there was a Vancouver meet up. Pssh, I missed it by a year or something. COME BACK TO VANCOUVER BC CANADA. I'm in Surrey, and would totes drive out for you guys :3
it would be neat to have a meet up at VidCon. VidCon is across the street from Disneyland.
FWIW I love hosting meetups and would love to host a few more this summer - but they'd all be repeats of ones that have already had them (Seattle and Vancouver and possibly Portland) because we don't have any trips planned this summer to anywhere lot very local. So there IS that possibility, but that does tend to bring a lot of "Omg there's already been one in Seattle etc" grumbling - though I'd still very much like to and do plan on doing so :) I find meetups really enjoyable and I've met some really, really awesome people at them!
Also, I know it's been mentioned before, but I think I've hosted/been to the most meetups out of staffers so far (I want to say five? I think five! I might be second to Keith at this point) and at two of them there were situations that needed to be defused in an official manner, either at the meetup or afterwards. This is what makes it really hard to have users alone host them, at least on an official scale. It really, really sucks, and I wish it hadn't turned into a "few bad apples spoil the bunch" situation, but as staff we are much more able to control a situation like that!
That being said however, both and I do enjoy them and try to host them when we're on trips that don't require us being busy literally every day - like when we were in Portland for a concert or New York to visit . While we're not planning any major trips for -this- year (yet), we are planning trips to a few places in the nearish future (Utah looks like our next big one!) and we are always happy to host meetups when there is interest (and time!)
[edit] As far as cons go - in my experience, it seems most con panels tend to last 45-60 minutes? I haven't been to one for a while, but I feel like attending a Subeta meetup for a set time during a con wouldn't be really any different than planning in a few panels you wanted to go to! It's a very similar idea, so if you wanted the achievement, you'd just have to plan it in appropriately :)
Keith live answers, live from a con, why hasn't this happened???
At this point, with it being a full year since there has been ANY meetups, and some cities have had more than one already I think it would be fine to have another in Seattle/Vancouver/possibly Portland :) At least the people that were unable to go the first time around due to other obligations or whatever would have a chance to go :)
You could always host one in upstate New York or New York again in general. Granted, that's been done ,but it's always been NYC, I presume and I'll be going to upstate New York for grad school which is a good six hours away from NYC driving.
As for cons in general. Cons do allow you to rent rooms for panel purposes. I remember stumbling across a panel when I first went to comic-con late at night that was entirely about some dude and his family vacation across the US. If he could rent an entire hour panel for talking about his family vacation then subeta could rent a panel too. I'm not sure how much the rental costs for renting a panel room would be though. I imagine it'd be easier than having people meet up on the floor of the con though since those typically tend to be pretty crowded though.
I'd be down for another Downtown Disney meet-up - that's relatively close to me so I can go and be social - I enjoyed it last time. And then I'd hopefully get to actually hang out with IRL for once hahahahaha :P
Ooo, I'd love to see a Downtown Disney meetup happen! I hear Halloween is an awesome time of year to go to the parks... ;)
That sucks that there were some shit situations that arose at a few of the past meetups. Makes sense that Subeta would have to limit these events to being staff run only when that's the case. Especially since these opportunities are so limited, I know I wouldn't mind if meetups took place in some of the same locations they have in the past. I don't think any have happened anywhere near where I live really (Disney would probably be the closest at a six hour drive), but that certainly doesn't bother me. At least other users can get the achievement, and plus they're good repeat social opportunities for the users who do live near some of those major cities like Seattle and Vancouver.
Same same hahahaha. I'd be like..."oh um....hi there...." awkwardly suddenly doesn't know how to talk or remember that I'm totally comfortable with you hahahaha
You shall see how easily I become beet red over literally nothing. Or how very flamboyant my voice is.
I will love you anyhow :* I hope this is a thing that actually happens on a day I can go haha.
YOU BETTER. Same here, I'd love to creep everyone out meet some awesome people !
It was fun the other time I went - lunch was nice, everyone was nice. Someone should make this happen haha.
