I don't really have an opinion on them bringing back the old skins. I was like w/e after finding out I had to get bit by half the site (dramalizaion) and ended up getting a bew strain-- if I xan get another older one too that'd be rad but I wouldn't have been bothered had the older strains never been brought back.
However, I really like the manner in which they were brought back with the whole VIP bit (I do think it should have been better explained from the get go-- several biters, and after a few days it'll kick in anyways), the reasoning is neat and understandable.
Now, about the zombie den. The bone every pre-existing zombie got was the ability to take your zombie skin off whenever. That was the bone, there was literally no fair reason to let users take their zombie off whenever they pleased + have access to old items. It isn't fun for people to hunt down old zombies willing to slap their skin on to do me a solid and I imagine people have better things to do then sit there buying the other 85% of the userbase items. Plus, Skitters is supposed to be pro unity so it makes no sense for him to be so judgemental (especially since his rent is so damn high).
So, there's the bone. Everyone has a nose, everyone (will) be able to buy all of Skitters swag, the ease of the achievement AND if everyone is able to collect two skins in theory an older zombie could essentially pick up two new ones (depending in priorities of maybe two new ones verses the achievements).
I don't mind in the slightest. There were zombie den threads in advertising, so it's not like zombie den items were completely unobtainable.
You zombies had the advantage of using your skins when skins weren't implicated in the new wardrobe. You had access to the zombie den. You now have a leg up on an achievement and already have a skin unlocked in the new wardrobe. Instead of being a hassle and having to cover up the faces, create noses, etc., the skins are now treated as rewards. Not a burden. And I think that's a fabulous change. The whole you have a skin but haha sucks to be you because you have no good nose, mouth, etc. felt like punishment and too much.
Besides... before the change, I honestly didn't see that many people embrace their zombie skins anyway. All I'm seeing is people being hurt because they no longer have a way to show their oldbie superiority over newer users.
Also, I highly doubt six months from now there will be many zombie skins used on a regular basis.
As a longtime zombie who loves being a zombie, being able to take off the skin doesn't feel like much of a bone to me. I haven't even exchanged mine for the skin yet. :P I wonder if other devoted zombies (aka people who actually WANT to be zombies) feel the same?
I think oldbies lose superiority every time Keith unretires a holiday item xD Nothing is sacred anymore and it's hard to get used to, especially considering this site used to have truly unobtainable items in the past.
-Only going to say this small thing... The first event was 2009. SIX years ago. Keith did say that the old skins wouldn't be achievable again, but a lot can change in SIX years.
(I know, I for one am super happy to get one of the strains. I participated in 2009, and continued doing so since. Love the zombies, love the progressions, and love that we can finally get the older strains.)
Yes, a lot can change in 6 years. However, Keith repeatedly said that the old skins wouldn't be available when the wardrobe updated as well, and that wasn't long ago at all.
I'm not getting a new virus, either. None of them appeal to me other than my current.
I wasn't needing to take off my zombie skin. I have the genetech secondskin. :P
The only thing I really feel bad about was anyone who owned a second skin (that really really sucks there), however I 0% agree that den items should have been kept special regardless of what happened with the skins. It didn't make sense, it went against the lore the site is trying to build, and frankly I don't enjoy bothering people for my own personal game experience.
Again, I don't really have an opinion on the zombie skins coming back. It sucks they were released and all the snowflakeness went away but keeping the den stuff as it was would have been a total dick move on subetas part and I'm glad they're changing it. It's not like there was mad profits in it anyways?
It'd be neat if subeta had made an original zombie achievement inb4 this started, but idk if that's possible anymore, but y'know everyone gets a little fucked around here from time to time, some of us more than others.
Lovin' being capped for a few years and watching pets blaze past my rank with level, and I loved seeing shit I paid a lot of sP for sold for 300k in the Alegarten shop/20 points in the NY Shop but -shrug- It is what it is and I don't expect special treatment because I paid more or I capped before others.
I don't care that people will all have access to the den. I care that people who have already fully progressed through the zombie stages can't access the den. I have never intentionally made a profit off of zombie den items, and have actually spent quite a bit buying items for other people without taking payment for those items. I was trying to help a few people who wanted zombie den items when I found out I couldn't access it anymore.
I know everyone gets screwed here on a regular basis. The intensity varies. This just really got under my skin.
speaking as someone who's held onto his strain since 2010, i can't say it bothers me that new users are getting old strains or that more people are getting access to the den. as far as veteran zombies having den access restricted, i doubt they'd do this if there weren't some kind of event-relevant reason for it. i doubt it'll be more than a few more days before we all have buying access restored.
I'm originally a 2012 Lobster Face/Rose Zombie. The first day I was so ticked off about anyone that wasn't a Rose to begin with being able to get my skin I pretty much avoided the whole biting thing. Pretty selfish, I know. I'm just like that though lol if it belongs to me, then it's mine and no one else can have it... yeah that sorta thing.
Second day I talked with one of my friends and as much as I still don't like it, I bit the bullet and just went with it. I've bitten 19 times and I couldn't find anyone else that wanted my strain at the time. Then, the lovely people that were Butterfly Bruise bit me and I should be a full BB later this evening/tomorrow. Nothing I do is going to change Keith's mind, so why try to fight it any more.
I dislike not being able to access the older items at the moment, but I assume staff is making changes we can't see so everyone can access all the items. I'm still going to be unhappy about all of this, but I'm participating because I'll be damned if I miss out on stuff.
At least my account, username, and pets are still special and unique.

That sucks that you can't access the Den, though I remember that this also happened at least year's Masquerade where the shop wasn't open for a few days until the shop was fixed up. I hope it is like this again, we're just gonna wait and hope there is some kind of perk for zombies who kept their original skins :)
Skitters said back in the news post about survival starting that right now the new stuff is only available and the old will be later.

And the timer is back.
We decided that because we moved them to bases (you can take them off at any point) people who've had them weren't getting any special benefit other than being able to go into the underground whenever they want (put on zombie skin, go underground, take off zombie skin). The old strains were getting down to 100~ active users having each one which just isn't fun for anyone.
And skitters was weird, he's actually been located above ground the entire time, is the one constantly fighting for human zombie equalness, and yet didn't let humans in his store? It was a weird bit of lore we never really worked out after fleshing out (hah) his character and didn't make sense.
💖 ✨ 🤗
I thought about being grumpy about the release of the old skins to everyone (I cured about a month too early to get the ZOMBIE LONG TIME title) and was BB til the skin came out.
But honestly I am SO happy I can make normal HAs now and I think the way this was set up, so that people who were long-term zombz got an advantage was really well done. I got my biting title in 24 hours (I got lucky being a BB). And hopefully I'll have time to snag a new skin and maybe my old boobitis one too! I tend to get all crotchety about newer players getting my old-player-status stuff but honestly this was well done and I am very happy with how it's gone :)
As someone who joined in April 2012 I'm really glad that zombification was brought back -- it was really annoying that there was this big part of the site a lot of us couldn't access because we didn't get to Subeta soon enough. And now I've been on the site nearly three years, so I think I'm out of noob territory anyway.
Making it even better was that we got to pick which infection we wanted, so now I can have that sweet skeleton skin I've been eyeing for a billion years. Well, three years.
But I've always been against things being exclusive or unobtainable (not just on Subeta, but in general), so. Surprise, surprise.
I've been a zombie since I happened upon the infection in 2009. I has no interest in curing mainly because I'm not here to use the human avatar crap. When it came time to bite people, I was more than happy to spread the love(bug) around and give people what they wanted.
As for the den, I got everything I needed. I've helped some users out in the past, but it wasn't frequent as it was really tedious to do with a timer. Let everyone in, get rid of those sP, and let's all just have a jolly good time!
I actually wasn't surprised that the infection/zombie skins became available again after the new skin part of the wardrobe was implemented. Am I bothered by the skins becoming available for other users again? Not really, since it really made no sense to me to have that portion of the wardrobe, but then have it limited to the 100 or so users that actually had a zombie skin.
I'm an original Butterfly Bruise zombie from 2010. I've been pretty vocal about it in the past, like when our butterflies were cloned for a wearable (I was beyond furious, for the record). But with the VIP program I didn't have a second of anger or upsetness or anything. I would never ever cure my BB, but I was always sad I couldn't get Dolly Dreadful and always bummed I joined too late to get Virus or Love Bug. But now? I have Dolly Dreadful! I probably won't use the skin much but now I'll be able to, whenever I want! That's awesome!
I can completely understand how some people could be a bit upset or sad about it, but as far as I'm concerned this is a very fair way to go about it. Heck, its probably the only method I'd be okay with. Everyone, including zombies, can grab a strain they didn't have before. People have to earn it - pay if they want a specific strain, get bit, and wait for it to progress naturally. If you aren't willing to earn it, you won't get one. If you are, you can easily get one. That works for me.
I don't have my fingers crossed over it but I'm hoping this might lead to us being able to unlock Stages as skins. I'd give anything to get to use the stage one Butterfly Bruise "tattoo"/bruise skin whenever I want.
