I was deathly afraid of needles etc. as a kid. Still am. Surprisingly I probably have both ADHD and Aspergers. It wouldn't hurt to do the tests etc. But make sure you get multiple opinions. If he does have some issues it is best to get him the help that he needs or it will just get harder. I'm still battling with so many issues myself, and I'm doing my best but damn it's difficult.

One thing that helped me was having things explained exactly what would happen. I have to have that consistency and knowledge of what will happen. Now it may upset him more to know he's going to get a shot, but if I were you I'd get him on a solid routine where he knows exactly what will happen and then explain to him in exact details what is going on and what will happen when he goes to the doctor. If he does get diagnosed with aspergers then I'm sure the doctor or nurse could provide you with that kind of information. But that's me.

Thanks for the trade Yep, he is exactly like that. He always feels a little better if he knows exactly what's happening. Even better if there is some sort of gadget to know about/how it works. We had to switch peds because the last one's nurse decided she didn't want to acknowledge that he was even asking her questions and just told me it's the doc's policy to hold down the child for shots... Oh how I wish that hadn't shocked me so. He probably wouldn't be so bad with shots if I had had the presence of mind to stop her and say, Uh, no that will not work for us, I will get him immunized elsewhere. And rescued him out of there. I feel like I need to step up my knight in shining armor skills at key moments...

When/if he has an official diagnosis I'm just hoping to get him with a habilitator/occupational therapist, that sort of thing. I just want to help him learn about life and how to deal with it in a way that works for him so he doesn't have to feel so crazy all the time. I definitely plan to skip the drugs. I wish I made enough money to go all dye/artificial crap free in our food. I do what I can but, real food gets expensive/hard to find. I'm buckling down after today's craziness (he had a rough one all day after that appt and is still up squeaking in his bed) and I'll be buying no more sweets, and I'm gonna try no more pokemon also, which I feel evil for since he loves it so... maybe I'll just be more strict about how often/when he watches. But he is obsessed and it just gives him an avenue to communicate less and be more violent. (When he pretends to be a pokemon of course he can only say their name, and if he doesn't like what is happening he uses their moves on you. LOL cute, but not helpful.)

Ooh also I missed it earlier, congrats Jenn and Amdir on the ach and everyone on their infections. I'm hoping to wrap up this ach, I thought I'd be done last night/this morning but had no luck finding victims.

I'm not sure if I'll get any of the biting achievement. People seem to want the older viruses.

Okay, I read your last few posts about what is going on at the dentist/doctor office. There are a couple things that you can suggest/do to make it easier for him in several ways. First, let's tackle the dentist. You can suggest going to the hospital for his dental work instead of doing it in the dentist office. I work in a Children's Hospital as a Child Life Therapist and I know this can be done. It has happened at every hospital I've worked at or interned at. If it is not possible at all, they can give him a little nasal versed before hand and that will help with his anxiety before they mask him. They should mask him before giving him the IV given his age. Second, at the doctor's office you can suggest positions for comfort. It doesn't always work though but it could just be a suggestion. A couple are you holding him in a bear hug or you holding him in your lap with your legs around him indian style and holding his hands. These are two options we use. If they must "hold" him down, which I hate physical holds ask for him to be swaddled with a blanket with one arm out. It's an easier hold then being held down. You can have him swaddled or burrito wrapped like we call it and then lay down over top of him and talk to him face to face and comfort him that way. I hope these two things help with those two issues at least or give you a few more things to think about. There are many support groups out there and more and more research is being done. It's not bad to take meds sometimes if it helps balance out.

I know I do not know your son or anything like that, and I understand not wanting to put him on ADHD meds. He is your son and you need to make the decisions that are right for you. I survived without ADHD meds. I do wish somebody had put me on anti-anxiety meds though. However, if he is anxious I really would reconsider a mild anti-anxiety med of some type. It can help take the edge off and control some of the anxiety he may experience. It won't help with everything, but it could save you some anxiety, too!

Looks like i finally gotten bitten

Sorry that I haven't been around much lately. About 90% of my subeta time has been on my phone over the past month. My mother-in-law, who has been taking cancer treatments for the past 16 months, has been in the hospital almost 3 weeks out of the last 5 weeks. She first went in with her potassium being critically high which can, and apparently did, damage her heart. Tomorrow she is having a pacemaker put in as long as enough of the blood thinner medication is out of her system. All kinds of other things have been going on as well but I don't have the time or energy to type them out right now. Hopefully things will get back to normal soon but prayers are appreciated right now!

Will be keeping you and yours in our thoughts and prayers <3

I'm so sorry to hear the news . I can tell you that my uncle did so much better once he had a pacemaker put in. He was having congestive heart failure, and it cured him almost instantly. My thoughts are with your family.

I'm sorry but I started a new infection so can't bite with boobitis anymore. There was a thread "boobitis biting booth" that had some friendly zombies of that strain. Or, if you don't have luck there, I am friends with another boobitis zombie that I don't think has a new infection. You really shouldn't have trouble finding zombies to bite you. It was kind of hard for me to find enough people to bite for the achievement.
