I did check the HS table after making my last post, and I'm 12 on the High Scores, so I've been doing a lot of overwater Fishing.

Could you tell me how you did it? I've never been able to figure that game out. There just aren't enough turns.

- Oh I'm sure it's not a glitch, just super hard to get! 12th place is very good, I am so lazy and never remember to go fishing ^_^
- thank you! And for the dances too :D
the trick to this game is to remember that it's not a regular-human game of drawing arrows with vectors with their sum always being hotter and colder. It is a computer-logic game of venn set exclusion/inclusion. You are drawing circles, so your first guess will always be the center of your first one. This is why it can't reveal any data. If you are hotter, then your next circle takes your second point as its center and you have to decide how large an inclusion to draw with your next choice (or if colder how much of your original circle you wish to slice out). You should be drawing smaller circles with each guess.
That's the most precise explanation. Unpacking that takes a bit....
It's true that there are ten thousand possible places to be so even if they gave you two more guesses and you magnified your screen to take advantage of every pixel you'd still have a one in a ten chance of getting it right. The game isn't fair. An other chance game Polar Fields isn't fair either.
I'm dense, that explanation makes no sense to me at all.

near the very bottom of this page are Venn diagrams. Do they ring a bell?
At wikimedia page is maybe not intended to be an example of how a game of hotter and colder usually works, but can you see it applies?
Not really. I'm just not good at visualizing things, I'm afraid.

One thing to keep in mind is that I'm approaching this from two different directions.
How about if I say that the arrow diagram thingy is a top down-view of a room. Each arrow describes teh straight roomba-like path of the guessing player in a game of hot-and-cold and the blue/red only marks each turn where they ask the knows-where-it-is person if they are hotter or colder. Blue/red on this diagram doesn't show hot or cold. The base of each arrow is where they started from and asked last, and the arrow is where they ask next. The final larger black arrow is a path they could have taken if they were reading the knower's mind and walked directly there to the object that is hidden.
What happens if you type "venn diagram" into your favorite search engine and choose Image results only? Do you get a whole bunch of images with circles and ovals and the like overlapping each other, sometimes in pretty colors?
I'm sorry, but my head is spinning now. You're trying to describe a math concept in words and it's just boggling me.

oh sorry, I was trying to not be mathematical. Is frustrated. The only thing I can think of now is population dynamics on a bus or a subway and cliques at a large cocktail party.
I'm afraid you're just coming at it in ways that I can't wrap my head around.

Thank you all for your kind words, for the dances, the little loves you've sent and to anon for the holy wow. Thank you. I'm hanging in. We are going to be traveling later than we expected more toward mid april. my Grandfather has gone into seclusion a bit so everything is a bit delayed. I'm very worried about him. I'm praying for you Adam.
Take the time you need my dear ...family always comes first. ❤ Losing a lifetime partner is very hard on the remaining spouse...the sense of loss and isolation is to be expected. As long as he has someone to check on him, (especially old friends, or nearby relatives) who can try to support him and share the good memories that he and his wife had, that should help to alleviate some of the pain. Once you're there with him, perhaps you can find a grief counselor, or support group for him. If he has a church group, they are very good about bringing meals, etc. and helping him through the rough patches.
Wishing you and your family all the best. (hugs)
