GOOD
I'd be more inclined to participate in creative contests if referral points were involved (I want these Blobbies D:)
On the note of Skitters items:
There's no reason to keep these isolated anymore now that people can remove the fact that they're zombies entirely-- it's unfair to everyone to let a smaller group have their cake and eat it too, especially on the grounds of "wht not bother unsuspecting users asking them to buy you stuff". Bothering people is about as fun as not having a nose, end of story. Also to everyone crying out to "think of the newbies"how about making newbies pay five times more for these items from user shops because how are they supposed to know they just need to bother people?
It also makes zero sense that Skitters, an advocate for unity, would still only sell to zombies. If subeta wants it's lore to make sense, this needs to change.
And having Skitters sell everything to everyone during pandemic and selling NOTHING to noone the rest of the year (just like alegarten) = sP sink.
I don't really mind if the old zombie skins are never re-released however if that's the plan it'd be nice if the skins had some text calling them out as "retired" or something.
Lastly it'd be cool if for one week out of the year subeta had a "friendship/random acts of kindness" based holiday with achievements for doing things for others (stickers on others, donating to the donation shop, liking others pets/has), the wishing shrub could come back with either no achievements at all or a cap for requests (so people can either not feel forced to participate or can potentially afford to do so). And in celebration spirit, during that week only, we can buy referral items for straight sP. Not cheaply mind you (currently users get about 6m per point), but still. OR, alternatively, these eandom acts of kindness can add up and doing so many things = 1 referral point.
Obviously I will always hate the referral shop because it's something I personally have no access to unless I start breaking rules (which I would do, I've spent too much and that'd make too many pet people happy) and users rarely sell if they do happen upon them HOWEVER. I must point out the stickers were released twice in the past, so it's hypocritical to say never ever ;c! Just extremely unlikely.
We agree on skitters, and should see some changes come February :)

What about a site layout? Maybe an item you can redeem to get one? I think everyone would love more layouts, and some are definitely going to pay sP for one. It can also be made as an achievement prize for "donating sP to Charity" along with forum titles, as people suggested before.
I had to google vine in this context and discovered that I have no way of making one because I don't have an iPhone or iPad. I don't have a blog or a Twitter account either. I doubt that I'm the only user in this situation.
If you're going to have a blog weekend could you let us know well in advance, please? Interested people without blogs could then sign up for one and learn how to use it in readiness.
These are prizes for bringing new users to the site so social media is required. If you don't have venues to do that you won't be able to get these items.

OKAY how about, recolors of items already onsite (staple items, maybe popularly suggested items) in a new shop for large amounts of sP (I'm thinking like SubQ-type amounts, maybe 2-300k ish? I don't know, I would easily pay that for some of the items I'm thinking of). Just a rainbow of common shades
I don't think it should be too resource-heavy to implement because the files already existing would just need to be recolored (so no massive amounts of new art or anything like that, except maybe for things that need updating?).
Suggestions: - I know a lot of people love these and people have suggested more recolors for awhile - Please? These are so useful, they're great but there's only 5 colors (and no white??) - I use these all the time, at least the black and white colors. More would be great - This comes in white, orange, or bluish. They're super, but don't always match well. Black would be really nice, as well as maybe a foggy green for with swampy backgrounds
he referral shop isn&;t changing, I know that it sucks that you "can&;t get those items" but that is how incentivizing people to refer works. If we made it things you could get otherwise, no one would care and it wouldn&;t be as much of a big deal to refer people. We need new users == we are going to give cool things to do it.
At the end of the day, not everyone is going to be able to do all the things. That's life, especially on a site as old, large, complex, and diverse as this. You will never complete all the collections, you will never get all the achievements, and you will never be able to do all the contests. There's so much to do and so much variety BECAUSE they want everyone to be able to do SOMETHING, not ALL THE THINGS. You're not supposed to be able to to everything, but you should always have something to do. Everyone on this site has their own strengths and weaknesses, and that's normal. Some people are social butterflies who can rack up lots of referrals, and that's great! Some people have been here for a long time, and that's great too! Some people have just joined, some people are artistic, some people spend 12 hours a day on here, some spend lots of money on CSC, some people are great writers, etc. None of these people will ever do ALL THE THINGS, and that's normal and totally okay.
tl;dr: It's easy to be frustrated by an inability to acquire certain items because we lack the ability to acquire them for whatever reason, but this is a normal part of such a large and diverse site, and it helps provide challenge and diversity so that there is something to do for everyone here.
The point of collections was that they were supposed to be hard, not impossible. There is in fact an achievement + forum title for completing all the collections. If it wasn't remotely possible, then it shouldn't have been implemented. It's like dangling candy in front of a child and saying "Nope you can't have this, but I'll let you think you can..."
Oh, and just for reference, the forum title is "ALL THE THINGS".
It's not even a challenge at this point. It's just a joke. There are collection items that are unbuyables, and look at that, referral shop items are some of those.
tl;dr: If it's not possible, don't fucking make it an achievement.
Find me someone who has completed all the collections, and then we'll discuss this further.
Well, we've had some kind of advance warning in this topic but I don't suppose every subeta member is reading it. If you make a general announcement about it, people without blogs could start one if they're interested.
It seems that the biggest complaint about these items is that they count towards collection achievements because they'll be forever unobtainable for most players. Maybe the easiest solution is to change the system so they no longer count. After all, CWs don't count for the wardrobe achievements.
Anyway, back to sP sinks. You could have special shops selling plushies and beanbags costing millions of sP but people who have given up hope of ever completing these collections won't bother to buy them unless they're needed for pet treasure chests or a gallery.
I would pay SP to be able to reset my pet's hunger level to feed for Gourmand faster. A couple hundred SP in order to reset it? I can see people dumping a lot of SP on that.
I had an idea for an SP sink today. What about a csc slots machine? Just without a jackpot, you know. Maybe a random old item pops out time to time, maybe you get 10 or 25 csc, maybe nothing at all. Just a fun way to gamble, make it like 50k a spin or even higher, but not too high as to put people completely off, put a top prize of like 500 csc or 1000 or whatever, but not often of course, and watch the sps come rolling in. Well from me anyway ^.^ Would be great if it were a moving machine too that spins and clicks and has three lemons in a row and you get a baublebutt bwahahaha, instead of a page refresher but then you might get more page hits for a refreshing one. idk just seemed a good one to me XD
Mega Prize Lottery Ticket - you pay X amount of millions and you get an item from your wishlist (exclude CSC, GA and CS items)
There have been some great suggestions here...too many for me to even remember so I could list all of the ones I would personally sink a crap ton of sP into. Almost anything related to my pets is high on the list with achievement stuff not far behind. Like a lot of others have said though...I've given up on the plushie/beanbag achievements since I will never be able to complete them. The referrel shop is a part of that as well as the fact that I missed the whole Islander/Pirate plot.
For the record, in my 8 years here, I have had 4 people join. All 4 joined before there was a referral shop and only 1 is still anywhere close to active here. So I got diddly squat for those 4 people. There is nobody else in my life who would even be remotely interested in Subeta and frankly, this is where I come to get away from real life...so why in the hell would I want a bunch of people from my real life here with access via the friend feed to everything I do and say here down to when I'm online or not? Add to that the fact that the site doesn't need numbers of players, it needs quality of players. By quality, in this situation I mean a player who will actively particpate in the site and occasionally spend real money to help support the site. All the referrel shop does is encourage quantity instead of quality. All it tells me is that if I can convince a bunch of people in my life to take 15 minutes to sign up, adopt a pet, make a forum post and then NEVER sign in again I will be rewarded for bringing in those dead weights who are now using usernames and pet names that other people may want as well as sucking up the server space to maintain their profile and information for the next 6 months to a year. Is that seriously what is encouraged by staff/ownership of Subeta? It probably isn't the intention, but it ends up being the end result when you continue to push the referral shop as the only way to complete plushie/beanbag/sticker collections as well as obtain all the food for a Gourmand pet or all the wearables for clothing collectors. It drives the "quality" players away and discourages anyone from spending millions upon millions to get all the other really rare collection items because the vast majority of people realize as soon as they take one look at the referral shop that they will never be able to complete whatever collection they were trying for.
Ok...end my rant/2 cents on collections and the referral shop.
On a more positive note though, I love, love, love that I can now buy TC slots directly!! I need to find a few hours that I can dedicate to buying slots and then cleaning out my vault of all the stuff I've just been holding onto for what feels like forever. This change was wonderful and very much appreciated! !
-laughs- okay this idea is kinda out there, but it kinda sounds like fun AND it could be considered like a community building/interacting/social thing which is something I get the constant vibe you're going for (and it would kinda give users a voice, in a way).
Anyways, what about something akin to Kickstarter (bear with me, this is long)? Like these would exclusively be created by staff (artists or programmers alike, maybe even our battle staffers idk), and instead of money they'd be fueled by sP. There could be a new forum place for it, for each idea where users can talk about it and ping people and try to gather enough support to hit the sP goal to make it happen.
A basic idea of what I'm getting at would be something like this:
One of the artists is checking out the suggestion forums and thinks, man I would LOVE to draw a shark pet because sharks are awesome. Sadly pets take a lot if time and dedication but hey we haven't had experiments in a while I could make a shark experiment!
So they get the okay or however it works behind the scenes (I know in my office I can't just do something, I gotta run it past some people etc) they make a quick concept sketch and then make a "kickstarter" for (example) 50 million sP. If the users band together and pledge that amount of sP to it, then the artist will make it happen; if you pledge the sP is taken instantly and if it ends up not being successful then it could be returned after the fact.
Now I know, if the artist wanted to do it (or if someone wanted to do a new feature or re-release retired things) then they'd just do it regardless and it's not like they'd get the sP (then it wouldn't be a sink haha). But 1. Hype can be fun, gathering together with other people excited about something can be fun and motivational! I know if I have an idea and people are like OMG then we all OMG and feed off each other. It's also nice to know what you do is making people happy before you even do it (; 2. It's nice sometines, as a user, feeling like you have actually contributed to a part of something you enjoy. While yes the artist may do something regardless, it's rewarding to know you were part of a group of people who helped make it happen now. While yes we are just users and it's not our site, people who feel like a part of something typically want to put more of their time, effort, and potentially money into it. 3. If it flops, the system could be re-used for cults one day. 4. Even if someone was going to do something, this could be like a teaser-- like omg I heard so and so was thinking about doing a thing but they're not sure-- a little lain told me if we could band together and collect 5m for this last piece he'd do it this weekend! Then all week everyone would be excited and wondering what it will be.
The things this could be used for is endless really. Like new pets, new items, mass token shop restocks, teasers for a new thing, silly stuff with low goals (5m goal and Keith will do a Keith answers!), hit x goal and everyone online can collect another lifelike doll today, it could be for gathering intetest on new ideas, it could even be for extending an event another day. Really, anything.
It's also something new users and old users could joun in on and feel like they contributed. Like say I REALLY wanted a shark pet I could donate 5m, but a new user who can only spare 50k... hey they still helped make it happen. And if users over-pledge (say the goal is 50m and we hit 100m) then hey even bigger sP sink/achievement for over-achieving/maybe even bonuses if the person who started it wanted to!
Anyways tl;dr much haha have fun with reading that
It is possible, and people have done it. It continues to be possible. Getting the items from the referral shop is not impossible, there are no barriers, you just have to refer people or buy the items from someone who has.
I like this idea!
