I had this all day and to be honest didn't like it one bit. Extra scrolling and having to use the forum pulse (which I've had removed with customcss for quite a while now) isn't exactly my cup of tea. Besides I like seeing last posted topics on all forums, even if they're not some I'd add to my forum pulse.
My forum page is back to normal now, and I hope it stays that way.
I've got this test layout and I really don't like it. Whatever layout you use, however, it won't get me posting on the forums more than I do already because I rarely have anything to say. This is one of the rare occasions. 😄
I'm not really fond of this layout. My biggest dislike is probably that when I go to click on a topic and a new post appears, I end up clicking on the wrong topic.
Er, NOPE.
That's my opinion of it. Negative space in excess =/= modernism.

nope, not a fan of this at all. i can't see where any of these new posts are from, and it generally seems... messy. i liked the way it was before, that way i could scroll down to the section i wanted to look at and see new posts THERE. not this mess. too much scrolling, too much white/negative space. awful, awful, awful. relieve me of this :s
Okay! I guess my thinking is that usually people might go into the forums with a purpose as a first thing. Having the feed on the side next to it might help with people just lurking around or people looking for something new to look through. From my experience, I like to look at random topics that fall under the same category. Or else I'll feel sort of overwhelmed since I wouldnt know where to start... haha.
If you guys have better layout ideas can you do me a favor and try to draw it up? I have an idea in mind I'm trying to draw to show Keith but I bet you guys have awesome ideas too. My thought was having it work more like the widgets so you can drag and drop or otherwise organize your preferred forums etc.
Mine just changed to this, I'm not a fan mostly because it is so hard to navigate and find forums. I like the old forum pulse where it was a small box that marques up.
I dont like the new forum pluse. It takes up to much page and doesnt tell you what forum the new post are from which is annoying. I want to know where each forum post is from. want the old forum pluse again.
I think that this might be workable, but there is no nesting, and I'm scrolling for days. For me, I liked the original layout primarily because everything was horizontally organized, and it kept things a bit more simple, felt more visually appealing as well. This current method expands everything vertically, and it no longer feels organized but having just sprawled everywhere.
I also miss the colours, and icons. This current setup feels incredibly professional and monotone, it doesn't feel inviting or fun at all. I think that in this form, it no longer really conforms to the happy feel the rest of Subeta embodies.
I'm really glad mine is back to normal now.
I feel for anyone that has that. Absolutely right we hate change, don't fix what isn't broken. The forums work just fine as they are, the main forum page already got an update!
I'm glad I wasn't a part of this beta test, when the new mobile/test/whatever layout happened and I got the displeasure of being a part of that I listed my issues with it and basically until there was an option to turn it off via saying my complaints I stayed off of Subeta. If this is how the main forum page is going to look in the future, I'll do as I do with most things and make links to my favourite forums I frequent in my notepad on here so I can get there without seeing, well, that hot mess.

TBH, I didn't mind it. I like having the sub forums there since some areas those are the only forums for that...grouping? Catagory? I go into.
The only thing I'd prefer would be to be able to pick and choose which forums I want my pulse to feature. I don't need to know whats going on in the RP forum, honest. (example, obvs)
BUT as much as I may not hate this idea, I wish the forums in general worked 100% of the time the way they are supposed to - pings, group pings, "Creating your post" going forever, double posts, double topics... etc etc etc.

I'm not part of the beta so I haven't had a chance to use it, but I think I kind of like it just from that screenshot. The "go to post" link could be to the left of the thread title so it's all lined up nicely, but other than that I think it's neat.
I'll miss the forum images, but I'll probably get over that soon enough, and I can't think of a way to incorporate them into the new layout anyway.
Can someone get a screenshot of what the subforums look like? Do they have the same design as the main page, or something different?

qft. out of all the things that need fixing, why are the forums being messed with again?
Honestly, I like the concept of forum pulse and I'd like having the ability to totally remove some forums from sight.
I always felt like there were too many forums I never use and the focus on forum pulse worked better than a list of 40 forums.

this... just... what was wrong with the way the forums already look? Why do they need to be changed to be uglier and harder to use?
I don't like it. Not using it cause I don't like it. I don't need to see every topic that is active. I only want to see the ones I want to see.
I had this earlier today and I legitimately avoided the forums at all cost because of it, which says a lot because I typically never shut up. It was extremely unfriendly, with an influx of random boards that I have no idea where they came from or what they're about (unless they're descriptive like THIS BE THE BATTLE CHAT, or SELLING CWS) and if that's forced back on me I don't see me posting much ever again.
.. perhaps that's the goal? help help I'm being oppressed!
Ahh, that said the overall look of it wasn't bad it really wasn't. I never cared much for the little buttons that weren't links, and the sub-forums constnatly playing musical chairs was annoying, too. I like the bit on the side, if it stays there it'd be a super easy way to flip around to other forums without having to go back to the main page so that's (potentially) handy-- I'm not sure how it works because again I avoided it all day (I was on my phone). So I definitely like the overall look of it, but my main problems:
This is kinda what I'm talking about, some of them I know are bragging boards or adoption boards because I've seen them a dozen/millions times in the past, but others-- I really don't know? And I don't like that.
I liked seeing what the most recent topic was in every forum-- not what's the most recent NOW THIS SECOND. Some boards are way too popular to even try and keep a pulse on (I was playing with the feed to see if maybe I could tame it and find things again... I had r200 advertising up for 5 minutes and the entire front page pulse thing was 80% CW sales boards... ).
Why is the pulse on the main page? Why isn't it on a sub page? Some boards are slower moving (just like some are hyper fast) and I might never see the most recent post pop up because it'll be swamped by something else.
Overall though, I don't mind it-- especially if the pulse went to a sub-page and the same layout was fused with the previous concept?
Something like this (obviously this is markup with just random subforms and random boards pasted under them-- I think it makes it's point) (also ignore everything under suggestions & ideas I got tired of moving stuff around)
It's not much fun to look at, that's for sure. Since I'm on Subeta for fun, de-prettifying the forums seems like a big step back to me. It somehow makes me even less interested in chatting, if that's even possible, since I've never been much of a poster.
I think it's because I can't see a few of the most recent posts underneath the forum headers. If recent posts could be added to the main menu as maybe a drop-down, I might change my mind.
The forum pulse is way too tl;dr. Too much and too big, even with it narrowed down to my interests. It needs to at least be a separate page or something, but even that probably wouldn't improve what is basically a huge wall of text. Also, it would be a lot more useful to me if I could make my own custom interests. As it is, all I'm seeing is a huge list of fairly random posts.
I would post even less if the forums are set up like this. Sorry. :/
EDIT: And I just got switched back to the good ol' forums, thank you :)
