"It has...two heads. Some might say its schizophrenic. Might look good in a bowl of fruit. Maybe."
Schizophrenic is the wrong word. You're looking for Multiple Personality Disorder - which, by the way, is the wrong term now. It's correct name is Dissociative Identity Disorder.
Schizophrenia is actually a totally and completely different disorder than DID so don't get them confused.

And in general, I'm not so sure making a joke of actual real mental diseases is a very good idea. Especially since DID most commonly manifests thanks to heavy abuse/trauma.
YEeeeahhhh it seems like a bad idea.
I can excuse it some since it's an old item, like many of the g*psy items. But an update wouldn't be unwarranted.
Absolutely :) We just have to accept the mistakes our younger-selves have made and fix them the best we can.
I agree, the way schizophrenic is used in the item's description is incorrect. DID would be a better choice, or even just simplifying the description to the following:
"It has two heads. Some might say its personality is both sour and sweet. Might look good in a bowl of fruit. Maybe."
But I don't think the intent of the current description was to make fun of those with the disorder. Ignorance at the time of writing the description? Yes, humans are notoriously ignorant then, and still are now.
Once again, this is the same debate as it was with the Bowl of Ebola, the Swampie Fetus Gummies, poop-food items, etc.

I think the fact that the description says "SOME MAY SAY" makes this acceptable. Even though it is not the correct word, it's a mistake that people obviously make, which makes the description accurate
I like this change. :)

I think 's suggestion is a fine and more logixal compromise, but
Time to reset the number of days w/o someone bitchin' about items: 0
is a pretty unfair accusation to make. Asking the staff to reconsider something that is offensive is no more bitching about itwms than people who make suggestions for revamping old item art. In both cases people are seeing an issue that staff needs/should fix in their opinion.
Agree x10000
One of them intentionally uses ribald or gross humor, the other is sort of misguided in its attempts to be funny and comes off offensively. I like the description [used=metroid] suggested.
I will say, though, the item itself is cute. I like the little faces.
This is a time where I'm 100% for the description being changed, the item is cute. I love 's option for a description.

there is someone in my life extremely close to me who is schizophrenic. we have been through a lot with issues in the mental health care system, and as a result I have been exposed to individuals with a variety of mental health and spectrum disorders.
that being said, this item does not offend me AT ALL. people misuse the term schizophrenia all the time and its something someone living with this disorder or their family/friends has to develop a thick skin about. it is obvious that this item description did not come from a harmful or malicious place. if they choose to change it that would make everyone happy, so great.
also i think the OP was suggesting that if the description said "...some might say it has dissociative identity disorder..." all would be ok? they are not taking issue with the mention of mental illness, just that we've classified it incorrectly?
i am not looking to engage on this, quite frankly i think its a bit of grandstanding. but if the staff cares for an opinion from someone who has had this disease affect their life and a loved one, here ya go.
Yeah. I don't think any items should touch mental illness because it's a touchy subject. It's easy to write something with 2 personas without tying an illness to it.
I agree. As someone who suffers from several mental illnesses - and has spent months in a hospital psych ward - I think this site should be free of stigma. There's no reason for it to mention any sort of illness.
The term "schizophrenic" gets thrown around way too much to describe anything "crazy looking". It's pretty regretful :( but it's still a mistake a lot of people make. I do hope the item description gets updated to something more appropriate though...there are better words that could be used :3
Holy cow I never noticed that description. That is kinda bad D:
There's always going to be people out there who are ignorant or just don't care about being offensive, yeah. But hey, might as well work to decrease that need for thick skin where we can.
