- It's not letting me access the dev site.
And directly linked posts displaying at the middle of the page wouldn't be bad if it was intentional. But if someone has a slower internet connection, they'll be much further away from the post, which really isn't a good thing.

Nevermind. I just had to find my way to the forums.
My browser still hangs up briefly when posts load. I don't know if there's an improvement or not because I didn't spend enough time testing before.
The direct link thing is still an issue.
Hmm, okay. How long would you say the lag is? Is the lag WHILE the posts have already popped up (you can see the loading icons) or before the page even gets there?
And yeah, I know why the direct link thing is broken (some posts are obviously larger than the min-height I put on the container) so I'll just have to make it check for that after you've loaded the page and send you there.

- It's not lag so much as it's the browser briefly locking up while the posts are loading. If I'm trying to scroll or something, it becomes chopping and less responsive than it should be because there's so much happening in JS.
It's only for 2-3 seconds so it's not the end of the world, but it's one of those things that would be a total pain if you had to deal with it all day long. It really interrupts the experience.
Can you give it a load now?
(Also the scrolling thing SHOULD work)

What kind of laptop / computer are you using? I'm on a relatively new (2011, I think) macbook pro so that could be the reason I'm getting much faster speeds than you on loading the page.

Absolutely, I'm just trying to debug it at the moment :) I just opened it in firefox and I'm getting a little bit of that stutter, so I'm going to take a look at how it's loading in FF specifically

Is there anything that can be done about the lag on the forum homepage? Loading posts with JS only solves part of the problem.
Huh I thought I included in a few posts back that I pushed some code to speed that up. I'll take a look at the queries there as well, but I think speeding up the topic pages too is really important.

I've seen you are working on the lag, so I would like to add that it's also lagging when posting. Sometimes it takes like 2min until it's posting and refreshing the page, and sometimes it's posting but refreshing the page after 5min, usually when pinging a group, I get the ping before the page refresh..

Is the site update box at the bottom of the forum main page what is causing the nasty errors?
I honestly don't get much lag on forums except what Marlboro mentioned. I get lag occasionally though, but it isn't consistent.
[edit] Those appear to be my forum groups. Is this a new feature that will show all of the pings?
