I don't like the fact that people who refer you get events and everything when you buy CSC. I guess it encourages new members to be active, if they're lucky enough to refer someone who actually supports the site, but there HAS to be other ways to reward them. I know the person who referred me IRL, and I see her constantly. I DO NOT want her knowing how much money I spend on here - it's just none of her business. I know I'm probably in the minority on this particular situation, because something like this probably doesn't happen often, but I feel that it could be a privacy issue because we're talking about real money being involved. Like, the bank isn't going to tell someone how much is in my account, so why should other people know exactly how much I'm spending? Or, would you expect the cashier in the store to tell you how much cash back the person in front of you in line took out? No. You wouldn't. It's private information.
I'm sorry if this sounds like an angry rant, really it's not. I don't mind my IRL best friend getting free CSC (good for her!), but I'd rather just gift it to her or something, and not have her know every time I spend actual money on here.
Huge valid point. In fact, knowing this makes me NOT want to buy CSC because Judging

Is this correct? I hope not. I don't want anyone to know how much I'm spending. LOL. REALLY.

I agree this needs to be changed. I'm not lucky enough to refer many people but if I were I most certainly wouldn't want them privy to my spending.
Yeah this is correct, the person who referred you gets an alert saying they're getting free csc because someone they referred spent money on the site. The alert doesn't say exactly who, but if you only have one or two referrals it's easy to guess...
I admit I was a little concerned about this, but I still love that the friend who referred me is getting something so... I'm torn haha.
I think it's a little crazy that it's a "lifetime" deal, though. I feel like they should get X% of our purchases until it totals maybe 10k csc? and then they'd stop getting free bonuses, since the site loses money when it generates csc like that.
I did not know this - but I wouldn't like it personally.
I agree with this completely. I was referred by my good friend in rl, and I rather her not knowing my spending habits LOL I was told to cut back on my spending here (by another friend). I know they dont talk about how much I spend on this site, but I dont want to create rl drama/problem. x_x
Wait, so not only do they get an alert when someone is spending money, they also get some random free CSC too? How the effing eff does that make any sense?
I don't think it's random it's like 10% or something so not only is it obvious who it was in my case because I'm her only active referral, but she can do the math and know exactly how much.
I totally don't remember there being a referral system 7 and half years ago, but apparently there was...
I totally support this. I agree that we need to have an option to turn this off or on.
I had no idea this was happening... I would like to see this changed too
It's really creepy and an invasion of privacy, what even??
I did not even know that this was a thing. -_____- No one I've managed to refer still plays but if they did, this would annoy the shit out of me.
i agree, this needs to be changed :/

As someone whose only two referrals are her sister and a close RL friend...I do feel a little awkward whenever I get the event that "Someone you referred has purchased CSC!" I love the surprise extra CSC, but it does feel like I know I little too much about my friend's/family's spending.
That being said, there are some solid pros to Subeta's referral reward system. In the past, users would get a small CSC bundle (I can't remember the exact amount) every time they referred a user to the site which, obviously, lead to a flurry of fake referrals so that some users could take advantage of the system. This new reward system (10% of a referred user's CSC purchases also goes to the user who referred them) doesn't reward you instantly for bringing over a new user. Instead, it encourages you to bring over users who will be here for the long haul, and who will eventually end up monetarily supporting the site. For those of you who refer users using one of those clickable links, aren't you more likely to invest your time and mentor a new user who signed up with your link, knowing that if they end up loving the site and staying for a long while there's a high probability that you will also benefit?
I'd like to see this feature stick around (because who wouldn't want free CSC?), but some extra privacy features wouldn't be amiss. Perhaps instead of an event each time a referred user purchases CSC, the events could be collated into one mass event once a month? We wouldn't be seeing the frequency with which they buy, and it would also make it more difficult to narrow it down based on RL information that we have on our referrals (i.e. Mandy gets paid on X so it was obviously her that bought the CSC this time. Brittany was just talking about her money problems, so I bet Susan was the one who bought CSC today. etc).
Another potential way to preserve privacy would be to change the percentage that is gifted to the referring user. Instead of a constant 10%, maybe it could randomly fluctuate between 5-15%. In this instance, it would be more difficult to know how much your friend is actually spending.
Or it could just go back to not involving CSC at all, other than maybe making it buyable through the referral shop for a reasonable amount of points? I realize that will also lead to fake referrals so... IDFK. I don't think people should have to be rewarded/bribed for bringing in new members.
For me, it's not about them knowing how much I spend, I don't want them to know at all. I mean god, what if your friend got an email with a coupon from spencer's because you just bought a sex toy? Awkward, and personal. I know, extreme example but, yeah. Same concept. I just don't want people I know IRL to be aware that I spend money on pixels. :c
I don't know if shutting it off is really an option either, because then people could get pissy over targeting and whatnot because they feel entitled to that extra csc. ...And Subeta's nothing if not full of a bunch of entitled people. So, drama.
This newer referral reward system of Subeta's has been around for quite some time now, and I will admit that at first I thought it was super weird... but then I have noticed that Subeta is literally following the trend for most other sites with referral programs. Flightrising does the same thing with gems, Swagbucks gives you a percentage of your referral's earned sb, etc. This is the going trend right now for websites, and to be quite honest it makes me more inclined to want to try and refer people.
The alert does not tell you who it is that made the purchase, or their amount purchased. I don't know that it is a set percentage that is awarded, but I almost feel like people are thinking too much into it? I don't sit there calculating or judging the people that are buying CSC... I see the alert and say "sweet," and go buy something from the Cash Shop for myself. We all play the site here.

A ton of of people agreeing and supporting your view, and you choose to insult the majority of the userbase. Geesh.
I don't spend much on CSC , but if gets a percentage of that it's fine with me. I think it is a nice system that ensures the referral s Subeta gets are contributing to the site rather than playing for two days and never coming back.
