Okay! I've sent everyone a message about the SS. Hope you're all ready to spoil each other. ^_^ One thing we need to do is to check our wish lists. Some items have gone up in price and are now a little more than our limit. If everyone could double check to be sure and we can get the Secret Santa on the go!
Have you moved house yet? Is it to be closer to university?
Thanks! I love your creation. She looks like she'll take on anything that comes her way. I'm in a simmilar boat to you on my job and my degree. I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience in education. Was it teaching?
I was helping out at a centre for children with discipline issues in the classroom and when I was in the canteen (next to the main room we taught them in) one of the children started going through my bag as there were no other adults there. They didn't take anything as I walked in on them and commented about them doing it. They weren't ashamed at all and just asked me why I had things in my bag. It was my last day there and I had bought them some sweets to say goodbye because up until that point I'd had no problems. I didn't know how to react and it made me nervous and made me doubt myself and my abilities to discipline them correctly! All I wanted to do was smack him and tell him off for being a cheeky little b**tard but I couldn't.
That's not a nice experience for anyone. Especailly when you don't know how to react. I think my reaction might have been to grab his bag, empty it and ask why he had things in his bag. How old was he?
Going to check my WL! Can we start gifting now? o: I'm moving in three days or so c: Not very close to university, but I can take a bus so it's fine!
If you do you may not have much to give your SS on Luminair. I think it's best to wait until December has started before you start giving. But start when you want to.
Teens are always tricky, especailly when they have needs. Maybe you could have told the teacher who was asigned to that kid? Have you thought about being a education officer?
I mentioned it when one of the other adults came in and he was told off for it but it didn't feel like enough. I'd had other experiences in school and I never felt like I could discipline the kids enough. They're so nasty, disruptive and disrespectful where I am that I just couldn't face a career feeling like I wasn't worth anything. I have the utmost respect for teachers as they put up with so much. I don't think I could be in any career dealing with teenagers any more to be honest not even one where I would just be helping them like a counsellor.
With teens it always is. The only thing I can say is that for the most part, he was the exception. Most teens aren't that bad. My dad worked with them for his whole career and he only met one or two that he felt really were beyond hope. I'm sorry you met one of the worst so soon in your working life. Have you thought about Adult Education?
I lost my appetite for education if I'm honest. It happened so long ago that as time went by I guess I made it feel worse than it actually was and then became dead-set against doing it... I dunno...
It probably doesn't help that I have a mistrust and a dislike of most kids. I didn't have the best experiences as a child of others kids so I guess it's grained into my subconscious.
I much prefer animals, I would rather take on a pack of rabid dogs than a classroom of kids haha.
I got the sweetest anon gifts. If any of you are responsible for it, thank you. <3
That's a shame. Kids can be very intimidating though. I understand why you'd loose your desire for it. Have you tried any of the pet chains? Pets At Home is very nice and they have animals up for rehoming along with new arrivals. The staff are very knowledgable about the animals and many branches have walk in vets for people who want their pets kept healthy. That might be a good place to start.
Why not just walk in and get to know you're local branch? I'm sure if you ask they can give you the best advice on how to apply and when. Have you thought about customer service?
I wouldn't know where the local branch is, I guess I need to find out. I prefer retail because I like the face-to-face interactions and I'm not good on phones. I applied to work for the Disney store a few months ago and got through the first interview stage but failed the second stage. I just completely screwed it up. I babbled incoherently and couldn't really answer any of the interviewers questions. :(
