I freaking love target. This one time I was looking for some fancy throw pillows for my bedroom and everywhere had a poor selection and the pillows were like $50 each. Then I went to target just because and saw pillows that were the exact colour I was looking for plus one really nice flower one and and it's actually so soft and squishy and they were only $25 each and I still can't get over this and this happened over a month ago and just wow. Gotta love target.
I always go name brand for make up and usually for certain baking things (ie cocoa, yeast, ect) ..usually thats just because theres only the name brand there so I don't have much choice.
I love generic products, and I'm certainly not too proud to buy them. I'll never understand the people who are. No shame is shopping smart!
The exceptions to my generic-loving ways are toilet paper, paper towels, most "health and beauty" products (like shampoo, conditioner, body wash, face cleansers, hand soap, and razors), soda (a friend of mine once said, "Generic cola tastes like old beef jerky..."), and cough drops. Generic cough drops are utter crap.
With food you have to experiment. For the most part, I find generic alternatives to be just as good--if not better--than brand-name products. Some cereals have been an exception, but that's really all with which I can remember not having consistent success.
I can't do generic cookies, or feminine products. I can't handle it.
I can't do generic makeup. I just can't do it. XD
Generally I buy a lot of generic stuff because there isn't much of an alternative where I live/on my budget, but it's only a few things I'm specific about. I always get the same brand and type of milk. This specific one hits the stores the same day it's tapped and to me it just tastes better than other brands. I also prefer brand sodas and feminine products.
I used to shop in Aldi a lot, but not so much since I moved further away. They have really good products and are generally slightly cheaper, plus they have a whole aisle of fun/weird stuff where there's sometimes a few good treasures. I do not care for Lidl however (it's like a discount version of Aldi), those are even cheaper, but so much it makes me doubt the quality of their stuff, plus the interior of their stores always makes me think that this looks more like a cleaned out storage building than a grocery store.
I don't really care for brand TP. I grew up with off-brand, so that's the norm for me.
I tend to buy lots of generic groceries! I'm on a -just graduated from college and in way too much debt to afford anything nice- kind of budget. The only things I won't buy the cheap brand are toilet paper, oreo cookies, and I'm a little picky with shampoo/conditioner.
I buy generic food mostly, but there are a few I don't like. Generic ketchup is usually gross, and generic Kraft Dinner is /always/ gross. Also the last mushroom soup I had was generic and I didn't like it.nnNail polish I'll buy generic only if I can find out if the recipe is 3-free. Sometimes the formula sucks (never ever buy Ardene's water-based polish, it cracks and crumbles off like chalk the minute it dries) but for the super cheap prices it's worth experimenting.
Im buying cheap coffee, cheap toilet paper, but definitely not the cheapest.
There is a store where I refuse to set foot in because they practice higher prices for brand stuff i can find elsewhere. this store's own brands are literally shit. let's not go there, shall we?
my bread must be a certain brand, but the generic white toast bread made by carrefour is way better than the bread i usually buy. funnily enough, carrefour doesn't carry the bread i usually buy, and is some 15 minutes away walking. mega image is just 5 minutes away, or less [i only have to cross the street], so that's where i shop the most. I can't buy cheaper alternatives to pepsi... i sometimes buy coca-cola, but no other brand because they taste yet again like shit. and are bad fr my stomach ... i mean even worse than pepsi/coke. i sometimes buy a generic energy drink and not red bull. but i drink enough coffee as not to need energy drinks. those are for when i want to spoil myself.
im usually buying brand cosmetics, like toothpaste, mouth wash, shampoo/conditioner, shower gel, and hand soap.. If you ever come to romania, buying Kaufland's own brand will save you some money, and the products are good, i especially recommend their sweets. Mega image's own brands are pretty good, especially their more expensive line [though somethimes you might see brand products might be cheaper... cheaper=worse? im not sure]
I'm in the UK. I'll only buy branded: Hellman's Light Mayonnaise, Diet Coke, Nutella, Andrex Toilet Tissue, and Lurpak Light Butter. Most other things I'll buy store-branded when it comes to groceries. I strictly only buy branded cosmetics. Including shampoo. Anything I use on my skin/hair has to be quality - I don't use a whole lot, but what I do use I try to find the best, I guess.
** I started thinking about this more and realised I buy branded coffee, soda, bread, yogurt, alcohol, and in fact most things. I am terrible! Perhaps I should try to move away from branded products...
Uh.. I've bought a lot of Costco brand food products before. I've also bought their body wash and the quality is usually pretty good.
Generally though I stick to branded shampoo, razors, feminine products( face wash, pads), also, mouth wash and things of that nature. Food wise, I'm fine with most non-branded with the exception of ketchup and condiments in general.
I buy a lot of generic items from Target (up & up), and I also buy a lot of the generic brand on foods at Wegmans. I've never had a problem with anything. Sometimes even the knock off brands taste better than the name brands. :) There are a few products where I'm a snob when it comes to them. Like my contact solution has to be Opti-free, my soap is Victoria's Secret Love Spell and our laundry detergent has to be ALL (b/c it smells like my Grandma). :) Oh and we love Nature's own honey wheat bread....which I actually found for $1 at the dollar tree yesterday. That bread is over $3 a loaf. :)
