I'm not picky about most things and can generally go generic without much issue. But the one thing I can't go generic with is hair care. Mane & Tail is the only shampoo/conditioner I use because everything else makes my hair start falling out and thinning. And it all started with my mom switching to generic store brand shampoo/conditioner....
“The Ephebians believed that every man should have the vote. Every five years someone was elected to be Tyrant, provided he could prove that he was honest, intelligent, sensible, and trustworthy. Immediately after he was elected, of course, it was obvious to everyone that he was a criminal madman and totally out of touch with the view of the ordinary philosopher in the street looking for a towel."
Mm, I learned to shop/cook from my mom. She refuses to buy generic green beans -- just green beans (which I keep wanting to type as 'grean beens')! I personally hate generic/bag-pillow brand FRUIT LOOPS because the sugar rubs off and I can feel it on the roof of my mouth. Ew! :(

I'm not the biggest fan of generic stuff, but I'm perfectly okay with generic medicine because it's basically the same as brand-name medicine (except in certain cases, such as cough drops, then I prefer a brand-name). Sometimes I get generic food as well, it depends on what it is.
Generic medications, breads, butter, dish soap sometimes, potato chips/some cookies, yogurt. There are more but I can't think of any.
Things I never buy generic include anything chocolate, trash bags, cat litter/liners, orange juice, deodorant, ketchup, coffee, tisues... And gotta quote here with the shampoo, conditioner, razors, face makeup, face lotion and face scrub. Yup.
Honestly, the older I get the more I prefer brand name products. I am willing to buy less of a product if the quality is better.
edit: About the toilet paper... I always buy White Cloud, which I THINK is available only at Walmart... so it's kind of generic? I always thought it was their generic brand, but then again I think I have definitely seen Great Value brand toilet paper, too. Idk. White Cloud is an inexpensive toilet paper, and it's awesome. Also, I wanted to say I really like Target's generic brands. It's almost like they are not generic! I love their packaging and advertising.
I buy a lot of generic items with the exception of several non-generic products. Either due to the fact there are no substitutions (generic); or there is next to no reason to purchase generic due to very similar ingredients and a few pennies difference in price.
One of my absolute favorite places to shop is Aldi's. I can usually find eggs for way less than even store bough eggs (as low as $0.99 a dozen), their baked goods are typically well priced as well. In fact there's very little I would try at Aldi's at least once. Though the down side is that I have to drive about 25 minutes to the nearest one.
I buy a lot of generic stuff. Like garbage bags, sandwich baggies, certain food items like canned goods, even my prescriptions are generic. My insurance tends to cover more of generic brands rather than named brands, so... I even buy beauty products like shampoo and deodorant. If it works, why not? Only thing I buy name brands is feminine products and laundry detergent. Occasionally, if I'm in a pinch, I'll buy generic laundry soap but it doesn't make my clothes smell nor feel as good, haha! Other than that, generic is the way to go! Saves money!

Buying: CW's with lots of csc from here!
I like this thread XD I refuse to buy (at this point) generic Lactaid (lactose enzyme) because the just don't work the same. The generics also taste terrible. I also don't buy off-brand cat food. Grain-free only!
But i work in a pharmacy, so for the most part, I embrace generic anything!
Strains I still need: Bulbous (vial), Naked Mole Wrath, Deathgrip, Clamorous, Batnip, Ragùmortis, Cakewalk
I buy generic even toilet paper 69 cents at walmart js lol only thing is I hate 99 cent / dollar store garbage bags they always rip open and also I like tide laundry soap i hate the cheap sun soap or dollar brand soap and shampoo..

When I'm not feeling well I refuse to buy generic brand medication, especially if it's over the counter.
Kleenex is another big one for me -- I don't want using facial tissue to add to the problem because it's scratchy.
Toilet paper and condiments (like ketchup and dressings) I also prefer name brand.
My GF refuses to buy generic oreos, because she says they taste bitter. On the flip side, I prefer generic brand soda to regular sodas sometimes! Stuff like ginger ale mostly. :)
I'll buy most generic products, especially medicine. I hate the generic chips though, they just don't taste right to me. And my boyfriend won't buy generic soda.
I absolutely agree with you on the generic tampons. I had a bad experience with the string breaking off while I tried to pull it out. Definitely worth the few extra dollars for the name brand stuff lol.
Generic 'oreos' are nasty hahaha.
I actually kind of like generic oreos sometimes. I'm not a big cookie person but yeah lol
This topic is interesting to me. I'm really not a foodie at all, and pretty much all foods of a certain type taste exactly the same to me. For instance, there is no difference in the taste of say, Italian bread, between different bakeries. It's the same type of bread. It tastes the same. Not ALL foods are like this for me, but most are.
That being said, I will always get generic medicine or vitamins. For the kinds I take, it's almost literally the EXACT same chemical formula in the same quantities, only it's like $15 cheaper.
When I'm in a store that has a store-brand, I usually buy it exclusively. On the rare occasions that sales are going on, brand-name ends up being cheaper, but that's usually the only exception... For everything but skin products and make-up. Usually, I'm a "buy the cheapest deal" kind of person, but I've had so much trouble with my skin, I tend to stick to the "best." Whether it's actually the best might just be a placebo affect, but I usually find that name-brand skin care products serve me better than alternatives.
I think Target-brand bandages are as good as or better than Band-Aid brand.
Hmm, generic grocery store type of stuff? I don't mind getting canned corn or chili beans that are store brand, pasta is also usually a safe bet. Tea - um, not so much. Too many experiences where the tea tastes rancid. Chips depends on the grocery store I am stopping in. I care a lot about taste in my food since I do a lot of the cooking, but I probably buy a lot of generic non-food itemes like ziploc bags, trash bags, air freshener, etc.
Not laundry detergent though. Would never risk my clothes, nope nope.
I buy walmart brand advil (works better for me than actual Advil), and I have their blood sugar meter. I lovelovelove Target's market pantry stuff.
I refuse to buy the generic generic Hyvee brand stuff. Not Hyvee brand, but the midwest something or other. Everything I've gotten under than name has been the worst products i've ever had.
I'm from the Wegmans region of the US so I tend to buy most of Wegman's generics because they are always just as good or even better than the name brand item. The only namebrand item I will buy is Coca-Cola, razors, make-up, shampoo. Mostly stuff that really contacts my skin and is not FDA edible approved I will buy namebrand.
However, Target's generic megaroll ultra plush toilet paper is really quite nice and lasts me a week per one roll. Just saying~

I buy generic medicine if it's got the same ingredients as the brand name stuff (which it usually does). No point in spending another 20 dollars for the exact same stuff.
