That sounds like a good goal to make for tonight! Maybe I should try that too, only 523 words to go. xD May I ask where you got that nifty looking tracker-ma-thing in your siggy? :3 I am terrible at starting new chapters! I always find myself starting them all the same way, ahaha. (Usually with a character waking up in bed to start a new day because I'm so creative...)

Thank you! Best of luck on your goal as well! :D

Ever since I read a read-and-critique of 50 Shades of Grey by an author I actually admire, I have avoided the hell out of wake up/go to sleep chapters starts and ends XD It used to be a bad habit, but reading that showed me how boring they can be (though probably 90% of that is because those books themselves are horrifically bad.)

Widgets! You can find them on the NaNo site :) Here's a link: http://nanowrimo.org/widgets

I'm still in Chapter 2 of my novel, so I'll do my best to not start any of my remaining chapters that way. xD (I'm technically in Chapter 4, except that I started NaNo at the beginning of Chapter 3 because I already wrote Chapters 1 and 2 ahead of time. Collectively, I have 36,539 words so far, but I know I can't count those first two chapters since I wrote them before NaNo. xD) I'm really good at ending chapters with cliffhangers so I'm sure I can figure out a creative way to tie those into the beginning of new chapters.

Awesome! Thank you very much! Totally going to add one to my siggy here too. :D

There's nothing wrong in doing it a few times, I think. Just not every single chapter XD

My chapters are on the shorter side of average - about 2500 words or so per chapter. But I'm swapping between two MCs (and will be bringing in a third eventually) and I like to change it up fairly often. This is the third book in a series... so the characters are established and that kind of setup isn't there to pad my word count XD It's all world building and world-specific mythology and politics and UGH it's so tedious sometimes.

I think I've made it work so far, at least. xD I'm actually really surprised at myself. This story is a brand new I've only been working on for a few weeks, and I am flabbergasted that I'm able to crap out so much with so little planning. It's like this story is writing itself. This is new to me, ahaha. I keep re-reading parts of the previous chapters and going "How in the actual heck did I manage to stretch a single moment across three pages??? O_o"

Acks, that does sound tedious! I imagine I would have some difficulty with that situation as well! I can't even fathom writing a story that spans more than a single novel, though. I'm trying to work up to that... xD (Maybe someday... maybe.)

Hahaha XD It's always nice when everything works with you. That's how it felt for me last year when I was writing book one. The second one was harder going. This one isn't so bad (I'm back to my original set of characters from book one - book two was a different set) but it's definitely harder because I have more details to cover. And a whole world to explain in more depth!

I've never been one to write multiple volumes, but I got to the end of my story for last year's NaNo and realized it needed a sequel. I wanted to write the sequel for this year's NaNo, but I wanted to keep exploring the world, so for the Camps this year I wrote a side-quel - book two. It runs parallel to the end of book one and about halfway through book three, but takes place in another part of the same world with different characters (who still connect to the original set - the MC of book two is the younger brother of the antagonist from book one).

It has been really, surprisingly, fun. I love my world and the people in it and I'm excited to learn more about it as I write. I just wish that writing wasn't so hard XD

Maybe my problem is that I over-thought my previous story too much. I have this one novel I've literally been working on for ten years now that just isn't falling into place quite right. I tried writing new drafts of it several years in a row to no avail, so it's definitely nice to be writing something completely new this year. :D That sounds SO AWESOME but I'm a detail freak so I absolutely love highly detailed things. Keep it up! swings pompoms

Oh, cool! I hope that sort of thing happens to me someday too. I do love trying to set my stories up for potential sequels without leaving any ends untied, but I have not been successful in coming up with anything sequel-worthy yet. ;w; I've never participated in Camp WriMo before. I'll have to look into doing that next time it comes up. xD

That has to be my single favorite thing about writing - discovering the world along with your characters! I love how I learn things about my characters and the world they're in as I write.

Everything I do tends to be very character driven, so now that the characters aren't new and needing to be explained at every turn... I find myself in a strange new position XD

Long-running stories can be very hard to pin down! You've had this in your head for so long that now when you go to put it into words, none of them sound right...

It looks like you're on a roll tonight ^^ Girlfriend was watching a movie and I got super distracted by it... so I haven't been writing for the past hour and a half or so. But I can't fault her. She's getting a sewing project done while I'm doing NaNo.

Ahh. xD That sounds like a position I have yet to find myself in. This story seems to be both plot driven and character driven. And this plot is becoming wilder by the chapter!

THAT'S EXACTLY IT. D8 Also, it seems like I can never fill in all of the plot holes! All of my attempts to fill in plot holes only seem to create more, smaller ones. Blargh. xD Maybe I need to just leave that story alone for a while and go back to it after it's had time to simmer....

I'm guess I'm pretty good at multi-tasking??? xD I'm holding up two conversations on Subeta while I write, haha. I find that playing some of my favorite songs while I write helps keep me focused, even if I'm also chatting while I go. (I wrote 7,000 words the first day of NaNo, I'm hoping to top that record soon. xD Gotta keep rolling~) Nothing wrong with taking a movie break! xD

I used to be better at multitasking. The older I get, the more difficult it is. It's so easy to get distracted!

Good luck! You're getting closer and closer to 19. Still shooting for 20+?

I am absolutely dreadful at specific types of multi-tasking. I'm in my element right now is all. xD

It's actually only about to be 2am here, so the day is still young! Since I don't have work today, I think I might aim for 22k or so. :D I wrote 7k in the first 6 hours of NaNo, so if I can just keep myself from getting too distracted... xD (Easier said than done!)

Good luck to you too! Keep on rollin'! :D

Ah - see, I work every day during the week :) So it's nearly midnight here and I definitely need to get to sleep. Work starts at 7am every single weekday morning!

I'm probably going to bring my laptop in to work tomorrow though, so I can write more on my breaks. I could use my work computer, but I'm just not comfortable writing my novel on my work computer. Not that it's NSFW or anything, but... eh.

Go go go :) Get your ton of words! You have all the time in the world today.

Save me I'm drowning... I'm so very behind I feel like there is no way I am going to catch up. Is anyone interested in skype conversation or word wars or anything who would be willing to be on me about writing? I'm maybe just a little desperate!

I can't with you right now, unfortunately - I'm at work, which means I'm lucky if I write anything at all :) But maybe there's someone else around who can join in.

Haven't been able to do any writing the past few days (been on vacation, like actual vacation not nano vacation) My family is getting mad at me for wanting to write :(

- Welcome to the thread :) Sounds like you are making good progress.

- Thursday, thursday I will be back at home and can word war with you again!
