So...I've been lurking at Adopt-R-Us a lot lately, even though I don't have any free spots, and I noticed that there have been a lot of real-word names cropping up. When I look into these pets, I see that they were created and abandoned the same day, and usually on the day that I'm looking. What that tells me is that someone is creating these pets with the sole purpose of abandoning them.
Please stop doing that.
The pound will fill up soon enough with pets people don't want - it doesn't need an influx of common-colored pets just because. Besides, if people wanted those names, they would make them. Besides that, someone may have been waiting for a certain special day to make a pet and you just kind of ruined it for them. (Sure, if they wait, they run the risk of the name being taken, but if someone "takes" the name for no reason whatsoever, that was kind of pointless, wasn't it?)
Anyway, I'm not admin and I can't force people to stop doing silly things, but I'm hoping whoever it was sees this and understands that what they're doing is the opposite of helpful.
Completely agree, this is so annoying. Leave the names for people who might want them for a specific reason, not just people who scan the pound looking for RW names to hoard.
Moving this to Bragging and Complaining

Please stop policing what other do, thanks.
A lot of these pets were created to get the common pet achievement. A lot of these pets were created because people thought they had an idea and it didn't work out. So, they abandoned the pet, rather than keeping a pet whose name is not going to cut it. Some people manage to adopt a better name shortly.
We have an exchange name feature now. There is no reason to wait on a certain day to create a pet anymore. And even before? You could manually switch names. The 500 CSC per pet name change feature was still a thing, even before the pet name exchange. I did that with Surrealist. Surrealist was a name on a lingering account and it took me a while to find a pet with the proper birthday. I switched the pet's names after, like a year or so ago.
Finally, the pound will be filled anyway. Sooner or later. The pound will never be at 0 pets for more than 24 hours. There will always be pets to pound and for people that love to zap fosters and adopt them, it's perfect.
I'm sorry, , but that's BS. If they were created because someone had an idea, then they wouldn't have been abandoned the same day, and there wouldn't be so many of them that were abandoned the same day. If that's the case, then maybe some extra thought should be put in before the creation of the pet, hmm?
Yes, you can use CSC to change a pet's name, or exchange it even. But that is an extra cost that wasn't necessary before.
I'm not trying to police the situation, and I never said I expect the pound to be empty. What I did do was point out something that I find irritatingly unnecessary and hope that the person or persons who are doing it rethink their strategies.
Edit: Some people think creating and abandoning pets is helpful. It's not.
3 of my pets are adopted (I'm trying to adopt more than I create) and I've rarely seen well named pets. I often go to the adoption centre with the hope of finding something good. However, most of the pets I've seen have some weird or outright stupid names and that doesn't help.

That's not BS. Some people had the name for a long time, the name didn't work out, but they were attached to the pet ID, so they renamed a freshly made pet with the name that is not working for them. They might have had the name for a long time, on a different pet.
IDs are unique and more important than a name to certain people
, you've missed the last few days then. :)
, so you're saying that someone had a pet named, for example, "Anna" with ID 123456. They decided they wanted Anna to actually be Dave, so they named another pet Anna and renamed Anna itself? That doesn't make any sense. You don't need to involve another pet in renaming - it's actually cheaper to just change the name of the pet in question.
And if they did that because they were waiting until they had the money and didn't want the name taken by the time that happened, then it wouldn't likely be that they'd create and abandon the pet on the same day, would it?
I think you are misunderstanding me. I'm not berating everyone who's ever created and abandoned a pet. Goodness knows I've done that; minds change, feelings change. Actually, I'm not berating anyone. What I am saying is that when I go to the pound on September 23rd and see a ton of real word pets that were created ON September 23rd and subsequently abandoned, I question the motives of the creator. The only reason I can see for doing that is because you think you are being helpful in some weird form, when you're not.
Yeah, people are being helpful. Not to you, obviously, but to people that foster and adopt from the pound on a regular basis.
Just because it hinders you doesn't mean it hinders everyone.

@ galadriel Ironically, I own Anna, which made me laugh. XD While it can be annoying, people abandoning pets shortly after does have some uses... It's good for people who zap and then rehome/pound, and it also allows names to be noticeable to people who might love the name but never thought of it or thought to see if it was open or recently cleared.
That said, I think I'm more annoyed when a pet has a terrible name that was just created is pounded. But you can't really police people on something like that; I suppose they could raise the cost to pound a pet a little bit, though... maybe an extra little fee for a pet that was created that day or something.
Damn it! Still, I adopted Mechanicat about a couple of weeks (roughly) ago and I've wanted a steamwork feli for ages so I cant really complain. :)

- hahaha. Are you planning on naming her Dave by any chance? XD
Yeah, I do find bad names annoying too; I guess in that case I've given up on thinking people's minds might be changed there. I'm so tired of seeing Zappymczappersonzappityzapp and its variations though.
At one point I thought it would be hilarious justice if, when someone went to abandon a badly named pet, a little pop-up would show that said, "We're sorry, but that pet's name is crap. You're gonna have to rename them something better before you can abandon them."
(I know that would never work for various reasons, but it amuses me nevertheless.)
Congrats on Mechanicat! What a great find. Incidentally, she shares my RL cat's birthday. :o
Maybe I'm just lucky when it comes to the pound, but I've found Muddles, Purrs, Chirps, Emilea, Wae, Mylde, and Moriah with their names as they already were. It's not too impossible! C:
That's so nice, I like coincidences like that. May I ask what sort of cat you have? I'm a bit of a cat lover myself - I even have a gallery of as may cat minions and items. Also, I went and looked at the adoption centre and found Iria the sweetheart tigrean. I wasn't planning on a new pet, but she was so cute I just had to adopt her. So thank you, if it wasn't for this topic I wouldn't have looked. :)

=/ I have actually done this. And is right. Sometimes you are really excited about a pet and then you make it and it is like...meh, you know, I really don't think I want this pet after all. I really don't think making a board is going to make people quit doing that. In fact, in a lot of cases, this will probably incite more people to do it. Spotlighting an irk just makes people want to do it more.
[edit] There are also some people that zap a few times and then pound it so other people can have pretty pets.

I don't really think about this that much and it doesn't really bother me but I do find it weird that a ton of real word names are made on the same day then thrown into the adopt-r-us. That being said, I do think it could be helpful in that it attracts attention to the name (e.g., instead of being inactive and only found when looked up, it's found via the pound).
shrug I don't really care enough to keep arguing about it. I've said my piece, I've had my vent, I'm over it. If it changes someone's mind, great. If someone decides to be an ass because of it, that's their problem.
Edit: After sending this, I realized how it may sound to some people. I was not calling Destiny an ass, but she mentioned that people like to do things just to make other people mad, and that was to whom I was referring.
I genuinely don't understand what you're getting uptight about :/ Why does it matter to you if people create pets and abandon them?
Quite honestly, I don't think it's your place to tell people to 'Please stop doing that.'
It may not be 'helpful' to you, but don't assume it's not helpful to anyone else ;)
Personally, i think its better than seeing 100x jimmy88234 or _T0MMy_2 or sdfgaojndfg and asdjfnsodf names in the pound.
This. So much.
With name changing one can grab a nice name from the Pound, save some sP or buy the csc with real money and get the name on an existing Pet.
