I was named after my great grandmother, Josephine. My husband wanted to name our boy after a wrestler, Kane. Talk about different! I don't mind though, Kane is a nice name. Are any of you named after someone?
When my Mum was heavily pregnant with me she saw a cute girl in a shop and the Mum called her over and my Mum fell in love with the name. So I was named Carly after a random girl in a shop. Doesn't stop random people from insisting I'm named after Carly Simon though.

I was named after the Scotish clan my grandma descended from. Her surname was definitely different than my name but with the abuse the so many people took when immigrating to America, changing their names to sound less Scotish or less Irish was common, and both our names are from the same clan. Mackenzie clan, of course. :D
... I was named after .... these guys.
I wish I was making this up.
collecting I was named after Laura Ingalls Wilder. My mom LOVES the Little House series. When she was 12, she was watching the tv show and she told my grandma, "When I grow up, I'm going to have a baby girl, and I'm going to name her Laura". :')
I'm not named after anyone in particular but my parents WERE going to name me after my great aunt. I'm glad I dodged that bullet tbh (her name was Rhoda).
As far as I know, my mom just thought my first name, Heather, was pretty. I think my parents wanted an H name to match my grandmother but didn't like her name, Hazel. But my middle name, Dawn, is kind of a family name. My grandmother's middle name was Dawn, and her daughter's first name (my aunt) is Dawn.
My little sister has a family middle name too, Elise. I like Dawn better. =P
EDIT: Removed the idiotic : P smiley.
🐧🐧
That's really cute. :) Nice that she stuck with a plan she made when she was 12. My older sister is called Laura. I think it's a great name. :)

I don't usually talk about my actual name, since I prefer to go by Zay online, but my first name is from a school teacher that my dad used to know and he and my mom agreed the name was pretty, her name was Shelly and my middle name is the same as my Grandma's on my dad's side which is May.

Yeah. Sometimes I dislike my name, but then I remember how much mom wanted me to have it. :)
My parents got my name idea from my one of my dad's son's old girlfriends, they just liked how Rachel sounded. My middle name, Lenore, is from one of my great aunts.

My mum and dad joke that my English name was taken from the shark from Jaws, 'Bruce' XD! Though i'm pretty sure I was named after Bruce Lee... I hope! My Korean name is romanized to Jin-hwa, 'Jin' was the first character of my great-grandfather's name (his name was Jin-jeon) and the 'hwa' character was just something my parents liked. Just to make things even more confusing my Chinese name is romanized to Ki-Lun and that's because my parents have a thing for dragons (qilin) and the 'Ki' is just a family thing so my brothers and I are Ki-Lun, Ki-Wai and Ki-Li. XD

My old name is one of my great aunt's names. (This name will not be disclosed.) My new name (Jasper) was based off the gemstone Jasper. No real connection, it's just a nice gemstone.
No, I was not. My mom's so simple that she put me Marcela because she thought it was just a nice name. And my father didn't care how I was being called <_<

I was named after a woman in a show my mom used to watch. She ended up getting hacked to pieces by her boyfriend. They didn't need to tell me that bit. :|
You all have it so easy with all those pretty names... My name is Jemsand, which my mother got playing scrabble when she was pregnant with me. Each letter is taken from someone in my family (J from my brother Joshua, E for my dads middle name Earl, M from a different brothers middle name Michael, S for my mothers name Sharon, A for my aunt Anisa, N for my cousin Nicole, and D for my sisters middle name Desiree.) So, I'm named after way too many people! I really like Josephine and Marcella that were listed above. I'm naming my daughter Abigail, just because I really love the name and don't know anyone with it.
