I've been to Canmore, too. Quite a few times.

Calgary, Red Deer and a bunch of other towns are almost under water, too. I'm in Calgary, and fortunately it would have to be very extreme for the water to hit where I live, but it's crazy out there.

I should say so, haha! They're telling everyone who works downtown to stay home if they can as getting there will be a huge pain and potentially dangerous. Thanks for the bookmark. I'm pretty much stalking the news and Calgary Police twitter for information. Stay safe out there!

I'm in Calgary and I live near the downtown area, just above the Bow. Luckily my place is uphill, but it's pretty bad. A lot of my friends who live in the Deer Run and Deer Ridge areas have been displaced AND to top it off, my parents live in Red Deer. Apparently the Dickson Damn is, or is close to, over flowing and I know the Red Deer water and Power plants are sandbagging. Right now in Calgary about 100,000 thousand people in the greater Calgary area have been displaced, according to the latest from CNN. Downtown has also been pretty much completely blocked off, with most government buildings shut down. The trains are also running in a very limited range. Here's hoping everyone in the affected areas stays safe.

EDIT: You probably already have it but HERE is the Calgary News Blog. They update as soon as news comes in.

I know, everything is just nuts right now. I cannot believe the amount of water that is currently in the city. My mom and I have been glued to the T.V. since we got up and the images and videos are astounding. Yeah, I've got a lot of friends in the Deer Run area, and I know a lot of them have had to leave, especially the ones close to the Bow. Thankfully, we both live uphill, but stay safe out there!

Yeah! I heard about that actually. And that they've turned COP (among other places) into evac centres. But yeah, I can't even imagine being downtown right now, just from what I've seen with all the water and insanity.

I also heard about the zoo animals had to be taken out (there is a photo of what the zoo looks like right now), and moved to higher grounds within the property.

I heard it was supposed to keep raining today, but apparently over the weekend and all through next week it's supposed to be sunny (which hopefully is accurate because oh my god -- enough with the rain!) I heard the Elbow has peaked, but that the Bow is still kind of iffy right now, but they're hoping it'll peak here in the next day or so. I really hope it doesn't get any worse, I mean christ weather, give us a break to recover!

I was evacuated. Luckily I have an Aunt nice and far from the river. Sun actually might be the worst possible thing right now. If the water evaporates it'll just come back down in potentially a worse storm. We need wind, lots and lots of wind.

Ouch. Sorry to hear that. Glad you found shelter though. Yeah, I know... it's just a vicious cycle of nonsense. Wind would be nice. I hate wind, but I would take it over rain any day right now.

I agree 150%. It's been rain for practically 3 months straight, enough is enough. I feel very lucky right now, I'm warm, dry and safe and I know where all my family and friends are. My heart goes out to those in the shelters.

Yeah, I am in the same position. I've been contacted by quite a few of my friends and family outside of town, too and fortunately I can say that I'm safe and dry. I'm just glad that we do have those facilities available to people. As well I'm super pleased to see that the Humane Society and other vet clinics are stepping up and offering places for peoples pets, too.

Yeah, and earlier we needed groceries, most polite uber packed store I have ever been in. For the most part everyone seems to be acting smart and doing what the authorities say.

That's good! I'm actually really impressed (aside from a few stores gouging people), with how everyone is behaving and working together and despite everything, people seem to be keeping relatively level heads (at least just from what I've seen on the news). It's interesting that how on regular days, Calgary seems so huge, but with all this going on, it seems very community-like... even with Canmore and High River, and the other towns effected, too.

Yeah, no riots is a blessing in its self, eh? When it really boils down, I'm happy to call this city home.

I know! Thank god. I'm glad people are cracking down on the stores gouging people, too (unfortunately one was near my neighbourhood... smh). I completely agree. It feels very community-like right now, and I'm pleased to be a part of it all.

I'm really sorry to hear that. I know High River is just a gongshow right now, I have a friend who lives out there too, and fortunately they're far enough away from the river to avoid most of the water, but still, scary business. Glad to hear you're safe and sound now, though.
