So I literally JUST got back from getting my bottom two wisdom teeth out, so first sorry for any typos or incoherent sentences lol. Waiting for mom to pick up pain meds before I sleep. So happy to realise I can still get on subeta - I thought I'd be too out of it, or wouldn't be able to type. I can't tell when my mouth is open or closed, but I get all the ice cream and jello I want xD
Anyone else's experiences getting wisdom teeth out?
Enjoy the numb jaw while it lasts!
Mine was fine until after surgery. The painkillers I was using (Tramadol) did nothing, until I forgot I'd already taken one and took another too soon... giving myself an overdose. Had a load of house viewings the next day, so I had to vomit in the car between each one and go and pretend to not be shivering and delirious while I was talking to landlords ¦(
Also I wish they were more honest regarding how long it takes for the giant holes in the back of your gums to heal. I was told I'd be able to eat like normal after a week, which was bollocks.

- Yay ice cream! I'm actually getting my wisdom tooth removed within the next few weeks. I'm not looking forward to painkillers again. I had my gallbladder removed last year, and I was on painkillers for a week. When I stopped taking them, I had withdrawal symptoms for a day, which was miserable.
- About how long did it take for the holes to heal?
Yeah the pain killers and numbness wore off a few hours after posting and it hurt so bad I started bawling my eyes out :c So mom called the Doc and he let us up the dose AND add tylenol to it, so I'm back to being achy thank gawd T-T The pain was so bad I actually got a light fever from it.
I'm lucky I'm living at home in the summer and my mom is taking time off work to take care of me <3 I'd be even more miserable without her.
The pain is unreal though, I've broken bones when I was 3, 4, and 7. The last one was my elbow just a hair off the growth plate, and even THAT didn't hurt as bad as this. And the medicine makes my face itchy lol. At least I have the internet, by bf via text, and my gameboy hugs the electronics
- I can understand the pain. (I'm also not looking forward to that again.) At least you're okay for now. Keeping yourself distracted is the best thing you can do, so yay electronics!
It's great you have your mom to take care of you! Depending on when I have my tooth removed, I'll either ask my mom or my boyfriend to take care of me. I would much rather stay with my boyfriend. The only benefit with being with my mom is she and my stepdad can cook for me while my boyfriend only knows how to microwave food.
if your bf can follow directions on boxes, instant mashed potatoes are amazing. Your throat will prolly be dry and sore, and the warm saltiness of them makes it feel better, and they are filling!
- That's a good idea! Thanks for letting me know and I'll keep it in mind.
Can't say for sure, but it took over a month at least. The first week or so it just crucial as you don't want to disturb the blood clot at the base of the socket. They had stitched mine up partially, but those stitches soon dissolved and it's impractical to eat when you've got big, empty, delicate gaps at the back of your teeth!
The pain sounds really bad... on the plus side you can mope about at home, though :P I don't know if it would be safe to add ibuprofen to what you're taking, but that might be something to bring up with the doctor if the pain is unbearable.

Thanks for the eating tip, even though it was for cherry. And mom called the surgeon, who let up up the vicoden(sp?) dose AND add tylenol, so I'm ok now :3
On the downside, powerful pain killers make me itch. EVERYWHERE. :C
Poor you, I hope you'll be able to sleep once your mom returns with the pain killers.
I got all four wisdom teeth removed at the same time about 20 years ago and it was like hell. Since my teeth sat so tight in my jaw they had to remove them (or more precisely dig them out) in a hospital where I had to stay a whole week afterwards as well. Pain killers didn't help so I was under horrible pain for several days, I couldn't eat, I couldn't sleep, I was barely able to drink and overall my big abdominal operation some years later was like a walk in the park compared to this gem of medical history.
Yay surgeries.
- Oh gosh. That's a long time... That's even longer than my overall recovery time for the gallbladder surgery. Now I'm terrified of the week after surgery. 😭
I got my wisdom teeth taken out when I was pretty young and the roots hadn't formed yet, so the actual operation wasn't that bad at all. I could even eat solid foods the following day. However, since my body heals quicker than most people's, a bit of food got caught in gums and it got infected. I had to get it opened again so the food could be removed, and that was very painful because I was conscious during it. After the food was removed, though, I didn't have any problems. So basically, be sure to wash your mouth a lot. Even if you think you're doing it enough, clean it more.

Yikes, thanks! >-< The swelling got worse so I have painful cheeks atm and can't sleep. Sandwiched between an ice pack and frozen corn....ugh...
I had all four of mine out at the same time uhhh 5ish years ago? i started the pain meds when I felt the numbing start to back down. I had to go use a mirror though to make sure I was getting the pill IN my mouth as is it was still numbed. Funny thing though I took all gauze out of my mouth and let's just say it looked like murder in a sink. I held up a towel under my chin while I went and wetted down tea bags (which are very helpful in recovery of teeth removal). The roomie at the time took the chance to use the bathroom, quickly came back out and stared at me horrified (the sink hadn't been rinsed yet). Was awesome XD
As for eating anything you can get into kid sized bites really is ok. Hotdogs, marshmallows, pudding, potatoes, just softer but able to eat in small bits foods really. avoid crackers and firm things until your blood clots come out. mine came out one day 3 weeks later when I sneezed, startled me as it looked kinda like a piece of the spices used in pizza o.O
All in all it went very well for me but your gums are likely to store the scar from this and you may have indents for years after. I do on my top ones but bottom ones filled back in already.
FINALLY GOT THE 15K WARDROBE DONE!!!!! Next up gutting and selling it.
I had wisdom removed on two separate occasions, thinking they could save one of my teeth since it was growing in fine. Didn't get anesthesia but stayed awake for the whole thing which is really unnerving hearing them break your teeth and yank out your nerves.
In and out of the chair in 45 minutes. Sucked sleeping for a week straight though.
Ugh I just can't wait for the pain to lessen....
edit: Just woke up and I feel soooo sick :c mouth tastes awful no matter what I do, and stomach is in turmoil. My brother is taking care of me and he can't make instant potatoes so I'm gonna try ramen....I hope this sick feeling doesn't last long.
i had my wisdom teeth removed last year, i remember i was so nervous for the anesthetic that they had to calm me down (getting a syringe jammed up the roof of your mouth = not fun). the actual tooth pulling / breaking / what have you wasn't that bad, just a bunch of loud crunchy noises and the oral surgeon pulling on the teeth like a mad man. the annoying part was making sure no food got into the wounds and not properly being able to rinse.
I totally forgot about that terrible taste. That's also gonna hang around for a bit since it works into the spaces of your mouth and you can't fully brush your teeth until you know your gums are healed enough. I think for me the bad taste finally left about 2 months after. Flossing will be your friend to help speed up the removal of the build up holding the taste, but it'll suddenly appear idk why though. Might be for you once you can fully brush your teeth it'll only take a few bushings to be rid of it.
Though it is a taste that's distinct for sure.
