**Currently being updated for GIMP 2 - Also adding a new tutorial on basic item addition (can be expected to appear by July 15th)
Hello everyone. To quickly clear things up, I do know that already has an overlay tutorial. This tutorial is the exact same thing as what Nataku has already show in her Pet Overlay Tutorial. However, her tutorial is for Photoshop. Since not everyone has that program, and I've found that quite a few people have begun to use the program known as GIMP, I made this version of Nataku's tutorial, with her permission.
A note in advance though, I have never made a tutorial and as a result mine is less detailed. I do hope this helps GIMP users though. If there are any questions, feel free to ask, although I do not claim to be an expert on this program.
Now on to the Tutorial!

New Tutorial: Better Colouring with Glacier Pets
For this tutorial, you'll want to get your picture set up similar to the first tutorial. Make sure you have your Pet Layer and your Overlay layer set up. Once you have that done, you can start painting your pet, but you'll find somethings gone wrong....

Because of the issues I'm having with trying to get the "dark coloured pets to a lighter shade" to work, I'm going to go on to the "adding items" one. Once I get the former figured out, I'll put it up asap.
THANK YOU! Works sooo well! But quick question/suggestion. How do you add items, mist, etc.?
wow, sounds pretty easy... I have to try that :D
GIMP is totally free and can be downloaded from http://www.gimp.org/
D: I cannot get the color to show up!
Oh dear :( Did you make sure to turn it back to RGB mode? Hopefully that helps!
:) Lol! I got it just before you PINGED me.
Thank you so much for your guide, I hope you can add more!
Yes, I intend to add a lot more to this guide. I've got two additional parts in the works (Adding items and making lighter coloured pets darker), but it'll be awhile yet before they're up.
Happy to hear you figured it out :)
Ooh! I can't wait to see the adding items tutorial! (=
Great tutorial! Also, if you don't like coloring parts by hand you can always color select and then tune the result.
I must be doing something wrong. When I change the mode from normal to overlay, my image is completely erased.

Thank you very much! If i ever forget how to make overlays with GIMP, I will always come back to this :D

Caribe, can you help me with putting pictures (like you did) on that post? I have a few.
Needless to say, I'm glad I found your tutorial on a Friday night...Otherwise, I'd worry about missing class in the morning! =)
At first, I looked at it and said, "Nah...it can't bethat simple. This can't really be the quide I'm looking for." Honestly, I was expecting to have to pickup and alter colors twenty times for a single patch of the image. I was shocked to discover how simple recoloring can be! Thank you so much!
To put images in a forum post, use the IMG tags: [img] IMAGE URL GOES HERE [/img] Be sure to remove the asterisks ( the *) first, though! =)
Oh, I use GIMP but I can never find a way to make an URL, so that"s why I can't
