and your crazy dress codes and closets full of mountains of non-perishable food items.

so i have this mormon friend and i'm invited to spend the night at her house. so i wear pj shorts and a tank top to bed. the next morning at breakfast, her mother tells me

'hon, you need to put on some clothes!' '...what?' 'go put on a shirt with sleeves, please. and pants, too.' '.....' shirts need to cover the entire shoulder, shorts and skirts must fall below the knees MODEST ATTIRE ONLY IN MY PRESENCE, LOLOL.

are you mormon? is your closet full of boxes upon boxes of food? (for the second coming, i'm guessing) do you follow a (crazy) dress code?

mormon or not, i don't think it's polite to wear pajames when you are dining with someone besides your family in THEIR house, unless youre really comfortable with their family and vice versa. clearly her mother isnt.

i have mormon relatives and theyre really nice, the whole... 3 times i've visited them. lol.

but i really hope you put clothes on after she told you to :|

are you mormon? Psh no. is your closet full of boxes upon boxes of food? No. It's full of clothes. And the occasional weapon in case zombies attack. ;D do you follow a (crazy) dress code? No. I dress however I like.

When I think Mormon I think: Hey, weren't they the idiots who think that Eden is in Missouri (fuck that, btw. Missouri is french for misery for a REASON. I would know, I lived there.) and that the lost tribe of Israel is the native americans? XD

I don't have anything against Mormons personally, I just think their beliefs are batcrap crazy (like Scientology. Batcrap crazy).

This. Also, there's a girl in my art class who used to live in Utah with ~Mormons and she always talks about how crazy and terrible they are, and how they hate everyone. I've never met a Mormon before, though o_o

Yes. Stephanie Meyer is a mormon.

I don't mind them. The die-hards scare the living crap out of me because they stalk my house, but other than that, they're fine. I have a mormon friends who's a pure delight to be around.

I do agree with eating with a family in your PJs, though. Until you're really tight with the family, it's kind of... rude, you know? And besides, it's their house and their rules.

it wasn't a /family breakfast/. it was my friend and i getting some cereal real quick. and about the dining etiquette: i know this family well enough to know that they wear pajamas around the house and when dining together as a family. wearing pajamas while eating breakfast with the family would have been fine if it wasn't a tank and shorts. and this is the 2009, not back in the day when you'd get a whoopin' if you didn't sit up perfectly straight at the dining table or DAB, not wipe, your mouth with a napkin.

and yes, i did put on some clothes. thank you for your concern. ❤

[edit] just so it's clear, my friend and i went to get cereal alone as a quick breakfast in front of the tv. it wasn't a family breakfast. even so, i can not recall the last family breakfast i was at that the whole family was wearing day-clothing.

the year and setting ("not a family breakfast") is irrelevant, she told you to do something. but you were a good little girl and did it so whatever.

I don't see what's so crazy about the dress code, and I'm Christian.

My friends don't wear tanks and shorts as pajamas and neither do I.

That's pretty ignorant to say. It's their religion, and they have every damn right to follow it. And frankly, they have the right to ask you to follow something as simple as covering up a bit more. If I go to a diner where they say a grace, should I talk through the whole thing because it's not 'back in the day'?

It's just showing respect for another family. Wouldn't you want the same?

when you don't wear sleeved shirts and pants year round, it's a little odd. now, i totally respect their rules and from then on i have worn 'appropriate' clothing.

you wear tee shirts and pants to sleep every time? we live in arizona. it's pretty hot in the summer. tank tops and shorts are a blessing during it.

I wear them, just not when I go to sleep.

And I live in Michigan, so the fan is enough coolness when you're in a t-shirt and sweatpants for pajamas.

no, no. you've misunderstood. i was referring to the 'it's not polite to wear pajamas to the dining table' statement. i respect their rules, and from that day on i have worn 'appropriate' clothing to their home.

[edit] and i always fold my arms and bow my head during a family saying grace. i have no problem with it.

What? I wear them every time I actually WEAR pajamas! Full pants or even capris are too restricting, and I hate the way t-shirts feel all close to my neck.

Some jews are like that too. The whole modest thing, I mean. I've been to a few of my orthodox friends house to sleep the night and they have to cover past their elbows and knees at all time (pajamas or just regular days). I do that anyways. I wear t-shirts and jeans and usually a jacket (if I can't find a long sleeve shirt) during the day and pajama pants and a tshirt at night. I'm just... really modest I guess. :/

Still, I think if you are spending the night at a friends house who's family practices something like 'high modesty', then you should at least put pants on? Out of respect. I mean, I wouldn't force someone who slept at my house to wear a long sleeve shirt and pants but they should at least attempt to cover up out of respect?

also, this family's children wore shorts and a tank top to sleep. it was just during the day they had asked me to cover up in their home. i do, now.

I went to my friend's house for a birthday sleepover, and she's Mormon. I believe most of the people there were wearing tank-tops for pajamas. None of us were wearing shorts though, because we all bought these really cute pj bottoms at Wal-Mart. xD

But she could never go out on Sunday.

No, I'm not mormon, but I have a buddy that went to college in Utah and he didn't know that where a lot of mormons lived and he wanted to throw a keg party and all the people that lived in the dorm with him just stared at him LOL.
