I have 7 females and 3 males. I tend to like making female pets with badass species/color combos. I don't really role-play them or anything, but I have been thinking about it.
I highly prefer Male over Female for my pets.
I currently have 10 pets, 8 Male, 2 Female.
=/ LOL -fail-
As of right now, out of the 17 pets I have...
Female: 10 Male: 6 Genderless: 1
More females altogether, but four more than male is not by any means overkill IMO. I didn't plan the genders. They just come as the pet is made.

10 males, I know some say female, IM FIXING THAT, OKAY?!
I only work with male characters, I hate female ones.
Of my 9 pets, 8 are male, 1 will be female as soon as I get a sex berry.~
I have five males. I adopted all of them (except Vlad), so it wasn't intentional. But I loved developing their characters, so I didn't mind. I have five more slots open, but I really don't have any plans to even it out. :D
If you go by what it says on their profiles, I have seven males and only four females.
HOWEVER. My oldest pet, although "female", considers itself gender neutral. And although I made my latest pet "male", that's just because it was the option that appeared first in the adopt box :P I'm still deciding whether [s]he is going to remain a [s]he. So I consider myself to have six males, three females, and one "other" (with one yet-to-be-decided).
Mostly they're named for specific pre-existing characters and that dictated their gender. Only for two pets did I pick a gender for the pet I wanted and then find a "random" name I liked that suited both (my Bloodred Telenine - had to be female :) and my Darkmatter Wyllop - decided it had a more masculine attitude).
