The gorey bloodred/graveyard pets are part of what makes subeta unique IMO. If bloodred pets were downplayed to not be so bloody it wouldn't be as unique and special and people would complain about them been too cutesy. I think like others have said the best thing to do is block the images that bother you. I've done that with some forumtexts that scare me because of spiders and then you can just forget about it.

OP, I guess I haven't seen all the Graveyard pets because that one also is a bit much for me. But you're right, not everyone can be made happy, but I think its safe to say that most people dislike extremes, be is too cute or too creepy. Now I don't think Subeta has reached that level just yet, but some of their designs to me push the line a little bit especially since there are children that use the site. I don't really know how else to explain it so I guess we'll just...have to agree to disagree?

People will say otherwise no matter what, too cute or too crude, too much glitter or too much gore, too much black or too much pink, it doesn't matter. It's what happens when you're in a forum, you get people with different opinions and..I'm okay with that. As I mentioned before it doesn't bother me enough to block the images, but I will pass along that info to my friends that it does set off.

i don't dislike that idea, but i think the problem is that at this point it just kind of seems like you're starting to develop an entirely new pet color along with a different attitude behind the pet. one thing many players like about each unique subeta pet/pet color is that they do have individual personalities. the bright red, blood-covered, murderous look is what makes bloodred pets bloodred, just like glade pets tend to be laid back and happy or spectrum pets tend to be goofy and playful or glacier pets tend to be (appropriately) cold and grouchy. no, they're not to everyone's taste, but if you start to mess too much with the formula they just won't be bloodred anymore.

The website is PG-13, not G, not PG. 'Children that play' isn't a good argument. Children shouldn't even be on this website when it's designed for teenagers and older.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it impossible to sign up unless you're 13? Or is that just tumblr?

Instead of expecting a Subeta change that probably won't happen, you could always go somewhere else that appeals to children ^_^

-bean well then if it's all a matter of personal tastes, i'd have to argue in favor of keeping the color as-is. i guess what you see as overdoing it pings as "sure, why not" on my radar.

my take on the matter is that if i dont like the color, i wont use it for my pets. if it skeeves me out hard enough, i'll block the image.

iirc you are correct, subeta has had 13 as an age minimum for quite some time. not sure what their take is on younger players coming on site with parental permission, but if that's the case, then the onus is on the parent for not thoroughly investigating the site's content before granting permission, should issues like this arise.

I know on neopets you used to be blocked from the forums if you were under the age of 13, and you had to print out a parental permission slip and mail it in to them to get access before you were 13 (I know this because I did it hah) but as far as I'm aware subeta has no such process. You're either don't get on the site if you're not 13 or you lie about your age.

You can tell from my pets that I like darker themes and colors, and I really like the bloodred pets (although I also liked it back when bloodred was just a red and black theme, too!) but even I am skeeved by the guts in the image above and by some of the more legitimately dead looking pets (not just reanimated, but dead, like the graveyard torrent). Maybe I'm getting old?! I guess they just bum me out.

Those are just my opinions in the original spirit of the thread, not demanding or even asking for any changes of course. I'm sure the staff appreciate all (polite) feedback even if it's not directly actionable, especially because the overall site audience changes so often. Edit: Correct me if I'm wrong about the feedback thing because I also understand the need to keep the feedback forum relatively clean.

I have a lot more yucko feelings toward the graveyard pets. I've still never made a board about it. I do realize it's a person-by-person basis and a lot of people don't feel like I do.

I can understand being grossed out by all the gory nature of certain colors. However, the fact that Subeta has "scary" pets is pretty much the only thing that's guaranteed to keep me here over other pet sites, and I'm sure I'm not alone in that sentiment. Subeta's basically the only petsite out there that caters to people who want non-cute pets.

If I wanted cutesy pets I could play any of the hundreds of monster/pet raising games on the market, but I don't want cutesy. I want my pets to be big and scary and menacing. I want them to be able to crush competitors in an arena and have TCs full of swords and I want the option of covering my pet profiles with death metal band logos and 90s animated fire gifs.

I don't really care for the Bloodred pets, I'm more of a Nightmare man myself, but if Subeta's going to have "scary" colors then I want them as ott as possible, just like I'm sure the people who want cute pets want them as ott cute as possible. I know not everyone likes blood, or guts, or nightmarish hell-beasts but I don't think Subeta really needs to censor illustrated cartoon gore.

While I understand the standpoint as far as squickiness goes, I think there are far easier solutions that have already been suggested than artists toning it down. I am among those who love and enjoy the more gruesome pets. I love horroresque things, and some of the pets here really play on that very well! I for one would be sad if they started toning it down. This is one of the few sites where you can have a terrifying-looking pet and an equally terrifying story to go with it.

I'm okay with some Graveyard pets (the Magnus and Telenine are good examples of what I'm chill about), but a lot of them do really disgust me. I don't see that as a problem, however. Personally I just avoid the images as best I can, and as a result I literally never come across them unless I'm looking for them or they've won the Pet Spotlight. And imo my disgust over a pet I'm going to see for only two seconds is not so important that in the future Graveyard pets should be toned down, and I feel that way about Bloodred pets as well. I imagine it would be so disappointing for those who actually like those sorts of pets to have them cleaned up just so I won't have to see something I don't like for all of a few seconds. And that isn't fair.

Subeta is a place of variety, and, Idk, I'd kinda like it to stay that way.

I do hope those who have phobias of such things are able to find a solution that works for them, however. ❤️

I've seen much worse in PG-13 movies. There are also plenty of options like Chibi and Sweetheart to appeal to those who prefer styles like that. I actually enjoy the diversity of artistic styles on Subeta very much. That's why this site appeals to such a range of people and especially to students, adults, and a more mature user-base.

If something really rustles some jimmies, adblock it. There's only one pet on subeta that I can't just look at it due to this weird issue I have with eyes. If I see it in passing it's fine but if I stare at it I'll get the cold sweats and get dizzy (fun fact: I usually have black outs at the eye doctor, makes wearing glasses a real treat xD). So I have it adblocked, and if I see it in passing in layouts/altered overlays/whatever I just glance away and close the tab.

If you don't like something, block it or just don't look at it.

The only reason I'm not a fan of the blood red (and I have one!) is because the blood looks so cartoony! That turns me off right there when I look at my pet Macedonia and the blood looks more like some sort of red jello not blood. I guess they're jello wrestlers not murders. XD

Now the graveyard, I haven't looked at all of them in some time but the only one that never bothered me is the Harvester. From the few that I remember, yeah I find them to be too much straying into the trying to be dark and edgy. Not really my thing.

I agree that adblock is the best solution in this case. I really don't agree with censoring the artists based on individual subjective taste.

I can barely stand overwhelmingly cute pets either, and i'm not complaining about it. I for example LOVE all the bloodred pets. I'm happy every time a new bloody little critter shows up, since the cutesy ones are really bothering me. But since YOU feel a little displeased by them, EVERYONE ELSE has to "give up" on them from now on?

If you don't like it, ignore it. Don't look at it or even block it if you feel like fainting by just looking at some pixels. My advice: suck it up. I'm freaking out by quit some things too, but i'm not going to demand anyone to change their likings just cause i feel displeased by it.

Sorry, usually i'm not that rude. But this kind of attitude is driving me insane. Seriously, people are not responsible for your well being, not only in the internet but also in rl. If you can't handle this, get off the internet. You are offended by something? Fine, sucks for you. Everyone is offended by something, doesn't mean its appropriate to force your complaints onto others. You won't be able to please everyone, but to stay in a somewhat reasonable community everyone sometimes has to suck it up, since just as many would be pissed if something was changed in regards to someone elses wishes. And i don't think its unreasonable to just not look at something you don't like looking at.
