<center></center><br><br>I would just like to add a sense of urgency to the earlier news post. Earlier in the year, as posted in the news, we had a security lapse that resulted in user account information being released to the internet.<br><br>This was caused by a type of attack called a <a href=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SQL_injection>MySQL Injection</a>, which also resulted in things like NPC accounts being taken over, and things of that nature.<br><br>Now, since that happened we have requested four times for you to change your passwords in various mediums. Today we asked again. <br><br>There has not been another exploit, there has not been another breach of security. The same exact list of user information is floating around, and users who did not change their information the past four times they've been told to, are now paying the price.<br><br>So, one more time. If you have not recently changed your password, I am asking you to please <a href=/preferences.php?act=password>change your password</a>. I'll make an ultra cool free gift everyday for a week next week, if everyone makes an effort to protect their online identity. I promise!<br><br>We aren't just trying to make your subeta life hard by remembering a new password, we are trying to make sure that all the work that you've put into your account isn't lost.

I've changed my passwod since you've told us too. But now that I have when I try to go to my wardrobe it takes me to a login screen thats still on subeta. Is that just a glitch in the coding or something?

Thank you very much, Keith. I've changed mine to make my accout safer. I still remember the "Longcat" hack-in that happened, and I'm still sad that I lost my Gaia account because of it. So a note to other users: Keeping a 'rotation' of passwords for all your accounts is NOT keeping your account safe. Use unique, DIFFERENT passwords for all accounts. Swapping a password from this website to the next is just putting your other accounts in danger.

And always, always listen to Keith. He knows how to keep us all safe!

Hints for passwords:

A place or town you know of that no one would guess (maybe a place you visited on vacation, or a town near your hometown with a name you easily remember) and a series of numbers that mean something to you personally. NOT your birthday. Use a pattern of numbers you like, or a 'secret code' number you had as a kid.

Another good one is to use a word or phrase you or a friend made up as an inside joke, along with a few numbers that are easy for you to remember, but not for someone else.

Your password doesn't have to be XbhDnj351k to be hard to guess. ArchdukeTillywinkle323 is just as difficult and I doubt anyone would think of it, and it's something you'd remember.

Come up with something clever and amusing to you. When it's time to change the password, change the series of numbers on the end. If it's got two words in it, make sure to capitalize the different ones. Most passwords are case sensitive these days.

Ok, I changed it again. Please though, don't flake on the gifts. My brother and I are still upset we didn't get our free chocolate offered in the SB for everyone who signed up with OMGimages before it's launch. I mean I know not to complain about a free gift, but if the gift is promised and not given it is disappointing. I know you try your best though.

I'm extremely frustrated that there are frequent security breaches on this site, but some things can't be helped, I guess. I understand that crap happens. It's not okay, but it is, if that makes any sense what so ever.

My password's changed. I have to thank the staff for updating us every single time it happens. They really go out of their way to make sure our information's safe, even when it's leaked.

It kind of annoys me Keith HAS to bribe users with free gifts every day to get them to change their passwords, for goodness sake it's one little word or combination, if you can't remember that or just write it down I feel slightly saddened for you x.x

Especially when it's to protect your own account

Do you not recall the fact that subeta had to move from where it originally was to here.... The info could have been than (they are not saying it was from) and that whole debacle was not the staff's fault.

Regardless, they did what I have not seen from most sites and told us what to do. They informed everyone via news post the moment it happened. Than they did something that I have never seen another site do, and that was contact us more than once, about the same subject to stress the importance of things to begin with.

I am not asking you to be happy about anything, you are entitled to your own feelings, but you should realize that the team is doing everything in their power to keep the users on this site safe.

LadyJan; I can't speak for everyone, but in a case like mine, I come up with some pretty random passwords. It can be a pain in the ass to try and memorize a new one.

Then again, I was a bit frightened by these notices, so I've changed mine a few times already. xD Brick'd

Changed my pass again, I know how bad is to be hacked. I got hacked in three e-mails and Orkut once because the guy just plain didn't like me; he could just tell that I annoying, that I suck at life, but no, he dicided to just try and destroy my internet life by hacking these and putting in my Orkut profile I was a satanist (which I'm not; I don't even believe in the biblical God, let alone Satan).

why not do like I've seen other sites do a mass password reset for everyone on the list? After a week check and see if anyone has changed their password back to the one on the list and freeze their account. Problem solved, we all can go on with our lives.

tacklehugs Keith A free gift every day for a week!!?? Just for changing our password!!!???

NOTE to those who have a hard time remembering their new passwords: I keep a purse-size address book by my computer and write down my usernames and passwords in it, for all the sites I use regularly.

And please, don't blame Keith for this...we should all change our passwords on a regular basis, and take internet security a lot more seriously. No one can be held responsible for those who are so ebil, they would steal our accounts. There have been thieves as long as man has existed.
