I went to college in the smokey mountains near where she grew up (I was on the NC side rather than TN). So much around there mentioned her music, sure, but more about the stuff she actively did for the community like her book program. In 2016, after I had left the area, there was a huge wildfire on the TN side that ravaged Gatlinburg. Dolly Parton was one of the leading people helping community efforts to recover; I'll never forget hearing all my friends back in the mountains on how quickly she jumped in to help. Dolly also did a lot to help after Hurricane Helene wrecked that part of Appalachia. Truly an amazing, inspiring woman.
