- I don’t think anyone means it negatively. It is just another fun way to ‘trick’ instead of treat and be a part of the festivities. I see it as more of a way to joke around with friends and it’s actually a funny surprise when I see I’ve been egged or TPd so I would not take it personally or as an insult if that is what you were asking. Just another way to have fun!

Thank you for the update. I am wondering about something related, that is if it means people don't like you if they tp or egg your house a lot. I do one time when I see the events, delete, and then if I see more, do one again, but to be clear, I'm not upset with the person, I just like to balance, and it feels odd not doing that when they dit it. I know there are achievements, and I don't even mind people doing that to my house, just with it being so many, I didn't know if it was something with me as well. I have trouble with this kind of stuff, how it all works, I'm sorry.

SOOO hyped for the older food :'') feeding my main pet one of everything has been as huge project for me this past year so being able to get some of the more expensive stuff I still need for free is a blessing. thank you for the opportunity to get the older items!! what a fun way to change up the item selection throughout the holiday. i'm excited about the new ToT items and i love the sweaters! and i've got a few foods from the patch from previous years that i have been needing so that has been really nice. thank you all the staff for keeping the site up and running after all these years and thank you for your hard work!

I didn't say it before, but y'all gotta be patient. I have some plans that will ensure you will get newer items, but right now, it's a matter of getting some old things out for a few rounds. :P I'm not going to leave everyone high and dry. I appreciate you all being worried and bringing up those concerns, but I promise things will work out.

There will be a few more rounds of old items being reintroduced to Pumpkin Patch and ToT. We want y'all have a chance at a lot of older things. We still have about 10 days. That means we still have challengers, we still have skins to come (in the next 24 hours but you didn't hear it from me!!!! if i don't break things lol), and other stuff. I'm not trying to trick y'all, it's going to be a treat! I PROMISE.

I was using the group list for TOT on the forums to try & get the last few items I want (mostly books), but finally gave up because I didn't have any luck & doing random TOT now. Sorry, but I am so sick of the fascinate masks, witch tops & witch hats, I have tons of those. Looking forward to the rag doll achievement being activated and see if there are any new skins.

I'm also seeing way more old items than new, and "random ToT" being people who are actively using the site... evidenced by the fact that I don't receive '5 visitor' notifications unless I'm actively using the site. I've not been doing forum trades this year since that's also heavily weighted to other active group 12ers. When I use the list of people who have signed up saying they're 1-11ers, I've been getting hexed about 50-80% of the time (which, tbf is awesome as I've not yet got that achievement, but I'm about to, and then it will suck lmao). And the remaining times where I do get items, its heavily weighted to be old items. There might be 'way more group 1-5' users, but If I can't find them, and they don't show up in the random ToT pool, then it doesn't matter. This is exasperated by not being able to see what pets everyone has on their profiles, pets that do have profiles not always listing what species they are, and users not having the ToT option on their profiles. With the ToT links being keyed to prevent autoclicker exploit (i assume), I'm not even sure if there's a way to ToT a user manually? If the point was to make the new items unequally rare, then that's been achieved. If that's wasn't the intent, then that's fine, we're just letting you know how its playing out.

Apologies for a double post, but just realised an error in my earlier comment - only 1 of the 5 bonus 5th TOT'er items was a new item (Sour Cherry Gummy Witch Hat). Brain blip meant I just counted the 5 events without checking the item given.

And 17 of the "Sour Cherry Gummy Witch Hat" does seem suspiciously high, although I don't recall buying any I could have unthinkingly bought some really underpriced ones. The other group 12 items I'm certain are from random TOTing and are still very over represented.

Is random TOT completely random or is it weighted towards recently active users, that kind of thing, which may be skewing what items are being received?

We just don't have the manpower to do a whole set like we have in the past. And honestly, the artists have been burned out doing the carvings. As you can see with new tot and pumpkin patch items this year, we're trying really hard to scale back on new items so artists can also have time for pets, projects, etc.

:P Maybe Yes! I wanted all these at once just to get the pool a little bigger but I will be switching things out the next time I update pumpkin patch (a few days).

As far as getting new items - you have to take into consideration that there weren't all that many new items this year in terms of going to each house. The pool is a bit greater right now for each house which means there's more competition. Items in ToT aren't weighted.

Also just to reiterate, group 12 is actually not the group with the most users. :)

Here's another interesting thing: the only rag dolls I'm getting from 2023 are the four that are held in the avatar's right hand and tow of those seem to be super common (send help, I have so many Special Agent Rag Dolls). I've not seen a single one of any of the other four. Were they not included this time?

I think people being frustrated with the grouping this year is pretty fair, I'm all for trying new ways to spice up potentially stale holiday mechanisms, but it's been really heavily skewed towards/against group 12.

Up until now I've been random TOTing exclusively, without really paying much attention to which items it's been giving. Being curious I went to check how many of the new items I'd gotten by now (account search using the item list in the forum TOT guide) and was unpleasantly surprised.

Despite using random TOT regularly throughout the day, since the start of Morostide, I've only ended up with 13 items total from groups 1-11 combined. That's compared with 32 from just group 12 (5 of those have been bonus 5th TOT'er items, as I'm also group 12).

Unfortunately I'd assume it's too late to do anything about it, but as a user (sorry, can't remember who) mentioned in the forums, it may have worked better if +13 species users got filtered back into the 1-12 groups? 13 species into group 1, 14 into group 2 and so on.

Anyway, the enough of being a downer, Morostide is one of the best holidays and personally I'm loving the patch minion treat halos this year (and always appreciate more occult books etc for my pet TC).

Random TOT item breakdown, in case anyone's interested

, in my post below I specifically state that even when purposefully choosing to trick-or-treat at the houses that give out the items i'm looking for i'm still drowning in older items. And no, one is not guaranteed the item after only a handful of trips (unless you have stellar luck). In fact, i've been TOTing since the start of the event, which has been nearly a week, and still haven't snagged the items I need. It's not complaining to point out facts. If the new system works for you then that's great, but it's not working for everyone and people have a right to say so as long as they're respectful about it. I mean nothing ill-willed by this post and do not seek to argue, only to relay my own experience to any staff that may be listening and to let others who are having difficulties know that they're not alone in their observations.

Just because it's not hard doesn't mean it's not a change that actively negatively impacts the main inter-user activity of the holiday. The "[holiday activity] the user above you" threads are a mainstay for a reason. The problem is that there's never been this big of a problem with this many people all giving out the same items. If they wanted to adjust rarity curves and make some items rarer than others, there are better ways to do it (like just adjusting item drop rates on the backend). It's not bad because it's ~~hard~~, it's bad because it's turned the holiday threads and the random feature (which you're incentivized to use by the lowered cooldown) are wastes of time when they never were in prior years.

People can voice criticism without it being pointless negative nay-saying. I think this change hurts the fun of the holiday. I am giving feedback because I like this site, I generally like these holidays, and I'm disappointed by this grouping distribution. Staff will not wither and die because of a few people pretty politely saying, hey, this change isn't working for me.

you guys, it really isnt that hard to get the new items. yes you cant participate in the above boards and expect to get the majority of the new items, or random tot. you got to seek out people who are in those groups, which conveniently there's a thread on the morostide section that has those users/groups. i for one appreciate the different way to tot, maybe it couldve used a little tweaking but some items are meant to be rarer than others, everyone is able to get every single item from toting this year, all you got to do it look on the thread or look for those people who are in those specific groups. im sure there is a reason why they changed up the way to get the items this year and they have their reason, YES its not what we are used to but, its really not that much more complex, imo its actually easier because theres not so many items and youre basically guaranteed the item after toting a handful of times to the same person/group. so instead of whining about can we just be happy and have fun and enjoy the older items being released too in waves because - thats awesome too. why do we have to complain every single event about something. end rant before i get in trouble

Even when I trick-or-treat from houses that I need specific treats from, i'm still drowning in pastel witch tops, lurbies and other hauntings of the past. I feel like the odds of getting new treats is quite low compared to the odds of getting treats from previous years, and since there are still so many new items that I need (some of which multiples are needed for both feeding and wearing) it's proving to be a bit of a bummer. Hopefully my luck will get better before the festivities end. Looking forward to getting my hands on some of those old books though! 👻

I just want to add, because I just checked after posting my first comment. I generally put every holiday item on my wishlist just to keep track of them... and in several days of random ToTs, I've gotten one (1) single non-group-12 2024 Trick of Treat item.

I thought I had gotten more, but it's because the pumpkin patch is doing fine and I think I've gotten some past years items from other groups, but this is really rough. I realize that I'm just one user providing anecdata, and that I haven't been doing it SUPER actively, but it's never been this outrageously lopsided. It doesn't help that this (again) basically soft-disincentivizes doing ToT threads.

Again: I really appreciate how much the team does and I don't want to sound like I'm just whining, but these groupings are really, really bad.

I definitely appreciate the year rotation! It was always a little frustrating in past years to only be able to get that year and the previous year's, so I really appreciate that!

But that said... I feel like even if the numbers work out in theory for how many users are in what ToT groups, you can still see that the item distribution is skewing really, really unevenly. Like, all of the the group 12 items cost like 2k sP in user shops, and it feels like they're the only things I ever get unless I'm specifically using users who are known to be in other groups (so no "ToT the user above you" threads and no random ToTs), and some of the other otherwise-identical items are still up in the multi-millions.

I really appreciate the work you guys do, and I realize it's probably too late to change it for this year, but I think this was absolutely not a fair distribution, and I really hope the groups don't stay this way next year. :/
