Gold Quest-A-Thon Borders

Hello, Subeta!

Both quests and community are an essential part of this site, and Quest-A-Thons have been an exciting fusion of both components. We’ve had multiple Quest-A-Thons and you’ve risen to the challenge each time.

One of the rewards offered during a previous Quest-A-Thon, and planned as a prize during the most recent one as well, was a cosmetic of a gold border over the user icon. This was supposed to go to the top 100 questers (including ties!). However, for technical reasons (that have since been fixed and had contingencies implemented), the record of individual quests done per person failed and cannot be recovered.

The community came together, and individuals also worked hard to achieve their goal of the border. With the tools and data available, we want to make that happen! Thus the gold border is going to be given out to everyone who completed at least one quest during the Quest-A-Thon. We realize that this was planned to be more limited of an award but feel that the more complicated situation warrants the change in parameters. That change is not meant to be a habit, but it is a part of SubetaTeam’s commitment to figuring out solutions as new challenges come up.

Thank you all so much for your passion and your patience in this matter. For those who maxed out their quests, excellent work! For those who made the time for Subeta between busy schedules, we appreciate you as well. We look forward to having fun with everyone for future events and holidays.

Q-a-T always burns me out and I often miss Keelhauliday as a result, purely from how my anxiety handles that timeframe. Which is why I step away and never has anything to do with the site itself; while I was disappointed it took a while I honestly just enjoy the new pet slot. I always get extra hype for more pixels. I don't even care that more people got it this year than who "earned" it given how things have been lately and the blue border was an even more pleasant surprise. I thought it would've been for 2020 and I would never get it, as I was often covering shifts at work for people who had fallen ill and if I wasn't working I was sleeping. It feels like a nice little reward for how hard I busted my ass in real life. I participated in Real Life Quest-a-Thon 2020 and received a blue border! 😂

I have to confess the tiniest, pettiest goblin part of my brain was a little upset at first thinking "oh no, i worked so hard for that exclusive border and now everyone will have it!!". But given the situation I really think it's the best decision and I'm happy it's been sorted out in a way that won't accidentally leave anybody out. Welcome Galaxia and thanks for the update!

Thanks for clarifying! It just says “participate in a quest-a-thon” with no specific date so it was confusing. The green one also notes “at least 100 quests”, again, with no date. The actual QAT was so long ago I can’t remember the news posts explaining about them either way.

I actually managed to do the maximum this year so was super thrilled you guys went this route! Thank you for this! And also for changing the blue border to a Q-a-T participation prize. 💕 Now if I can just luck out on the elusive Tempest Storm one I’ll be all set!

I did quests just because and honestly didn't know there was a Quest-A-Thon until after the fact, so apparently I didn't truly participate this year (I know this because I didn't get any borders), so I look forward to doing future Quest-A-Thons now I know they're a thing and to be on a look out for it!

Thank you! I'm glad that you guys were able to figure out a solution to a difficult issue. I did do all the quests every day (first time I've done this for a quest a thon) just to see if I could earn the border and I'm happy to have gotten it! It doesn't bother me if people who didn't "earn" it also got it, since for me it was more of a personal accomplishment thing. And ultimately, it's a cosmetic border, so the simple solution seems like the best one because I'd rather people who did do a lot to earn it get it along with everyone rather than nobody getting it to keep it away from people who didn't technically win.

I didn't realize this was an issue this year, even though I found it odd that I completed all of my quests the entire quest a thon and had additional quest buffs completed and did not place in the top 100 with ties. I thought maybe people had more than 5 extra quests or so.

and for those asking about the blue border--that was for the previous years' quest a thon. this year instead of giving out a blue one, they gave out a green.

The blue border was one of the first HA borders given out during the, when was it, 2020 quest-a-thon to all participants. The green border was given out this year for all participants in the 2021 quest-a-thon. It was not clear whether or not the blue border would be distributed again this year to participants.

Thank you for the resolution to this matter, I know it's been brought up a lot since the Quest-a-Thon ended, so it's nice to finally have it done with. I personally don't mind if some people got the border who wouldn't have otherwise, I think it's better that the people who did put in the work to get it still end up with the reward instead of everyone just getting nothing because something outside of our control happened. So thank you staff <3

So far the blue border has only been given out as a participation award for the 2020 Quest-a-Thon, so if you participated in this year's but not last years, you won't have that one unlocked. I'm not sure if it would maybe be given out again at some point in the future, but that's how it is right now at least.
