State of the <s>Union</s> User Shops: One Month Later

I can't say there weren't a few bumps along the way, but I'd like to start off by saying I think the release of the new user shops has been one of our most successful in a while. There weren't very many, but we've been able to fix most of the bugs that weren't caught during the initial testing period (including at least a couple that seem to have miraculously fixed themselves with no intervention from us at all!), and have tweaked interfaces here and there based on your feedback, which we will continue to do.

As was said when we first announced this project, one of the major reasons we were revamping the user shops now (when, to be honest, it's been on our to-do list for a few years) was due to the 502 and 504 errors that have been plaguing the site since our move from Rackspace to AWS. While the new shops didn't completely solve the problem, we did see the volume of 5xx errors reduced by more than 75%, which we were cautiously optimistic about. They were clearly still a problem, but we started to have an end in sight (keep an eye out for a post from about how we've seen almost no 5xx errors at all in the past few days since the removal of pusher.js - which was a big surprise!).

The new user shops have relieved so much strain on the servers and the database. Even buying from the legacy shops still being available via shop search has had a much smaller impact than we initially anticipated, so I'm happy to announce to you all that the legacy shops will remain in shop search results indefinitely!

Last but not least, gallery item limits have been raised once again, to allow 7,500 unique items per gallery for everyone, and 10,000 unique items for Gold Account users. These, along the current shop limits of 2,000 and 2,500, are likely to be the final item limits. That said, we will continue to monitor the new system and make adjustments as we see fit.

Thank you all so much for sticking with us through these tough times. You guys are why we do what we do!

" announce to you all that the legacy shops will remain in shop search results indefinitely!"

these are the types of things that should never be said. Now if some unforeseen circumstance arises where they need to be taken off the shop search, users will rage and quote and inevitably rage quote. Indefinitely, never these are words that should... never... be used.

Well, I don't know if enough folks say it but thank you for making this site such a fun place to linger on...I will say that this is the best pet site around. Thanks so much for all that you guys do..hey hint...could you increase our pet limit to 100 pets (JK but hoping)? I think that would be an awesome idea. =)

The shop limits are disturbing. But actually with my almost empty new shops it still takes forever to load edit or quickstock.

I hope you'll really soon address the many questions that have not been answered yet.

but not good !! that you can still buy from the legacy shops - now they wont take the time to hover theire items to the new shops at all !!! i hope that every time something is bought from a legacy shop the site will crash again !

rules are rules - new shops is new shops

I'm really glad to see that the final shop limits didn't change! is so spot-on - the new shop limits make shops SO MUCH faster. Autopricing doesn't take 20 minutes anymore, and it's infinitely quicker to edit things! 😭

Thanks so much for all the hard work you all do to fix the sight and make it run better. I have had a few 504 errors but not as many as before. I also have a question how long do we have to empty all our galleries as I have so many it will take a lot of work and to also play the sight makes it take longer but have been trying? Also can you let me know why when we do the auto update as gold account users that it doesnt update all the items? And where it says I see you need more of the items updated I click and it never shows anything being done in our new shops. Thanks again

Last few days, I've marveled over how well the site is running! Since the removal of pusher.js especially, and I had already drawn the conclusion that is was a major part of the problem!

Yayyyyyyyyyyyyy! I can NOW do my quests in a reasonable amount of time!!

PARTY!!!! :-P

well instead of 7500 for gallery (wich raises 2500) i would have loved to see 6000 for galleries (only raise 1000) and 3000 for shops or even 2500 (raise of 500 or 1000 items) !!!

but glad you guys are happy on how it runs

I'm so glad to hear this has helped so much. And with the current limits and the changes finally getting me off me bum and using pet treasures after all these years, I think even a collector like me can be happy with the changes. :)

Thank you for the continued updates!

And that's great about the legacy shops! At least now we shouldn't have to worry about a ton of items suddenly going off the market again, that didn't turn out very well.

So is the 7,500 and 10,000 amount for galleries only? If it is the case, I am a little bummed, as I have never used shops for galleries, and I never will. It's just not my thing to show off items, when I can be selling them. But, thanks anyway for the information.

Fantastic news, thank you so much for all your work! I have mostly more than 2000 items in a shop during an event yet I like the idea of having different amounts of sP at the ready in the till there, so the limit is no problem at all. I keep my fingers crossed that we see some changes in the wardrobe, too, soon. Drawers would be nice and please give us our nose back in the Share function. :-)

I must be honest that the shops limit 2000/2500 is the best thing ever. it's so much easy to handle a shop now, to autoprice and above all to reach the "edit shop" and change prices.. something that was barely possible with the old shops.

Are we going to be getting categories in regular shops? Because I am lost without this, it's so messy and disorganized.

Yes, thank you so much! :D Maybe I can condense a couple galleries together now to reopen one of my old shops.... nah, I'll just use the vault once I clear it. XD

y'all are awesome. I'm glad the galleries got bigger, and I kinda wish the shops would go up a tad more. Or non GAs would be allowed a couple more maybe. But I can work with 2K so much better than the initial 250 items, and won't pitch a fit even though I'd be super happy to have a few more items in my shop. ;)

I don't think your strike tag worked!

I'd like to see a higher shop limit, personally, even if it's only another thousand or so. But I'm glad that it worked out so well. I've been enjoying the new system, it's much faster and prettier!
