Random Event, Quentin quests and certain battle challengers drop amulets.
After reading the subpedia entry i thought the answer might be to have a shinwa or oracle item in my invent while using mage amulets. That didnt work. I used an earth, water and death amulet
Do any of the vending machines vend amulets or is this a Quentin only thing?

The master of death in the news post refers to the fact he is the one that created the graveyard potion. :x
had all 3, tome of death, death mage amulet, death shard and visited him, no challenger
I tried that and nada. death amulets have no effect on the master of death... maybe try a life one next time?

Probably so, I just thought it might be a hint as to how to unlock him as well. Can't test it myself though, not sure what else it could be if it doesn't involve any of his items.

I checked the item directory and there is a new book about mastering death as well, and the news post mentions him being a master of death. Just a theory.
Yes BUT not all challengers who drop amulets drop all types of amulets, right?
uh I think may have gotten some of the new ones earlier, skimmed the BC and I saw them posted. I think he'll drop them along with quentin.

all Mage Amulets are battle loot
so maybe they aren't part of the way to get him, maybe you can only get them from him :P
because he will drop them :p

I tried using a tome, that wasn't it. Visited him with all the shards in my inventory, BUT I don't have Ice and Wind. Maybe we need the new versions of amulets, tomes, shards etc. too.
I'm thinking it might involve having one of each of the amulets in your inventory or visiting him with one of each. Will need to wait until people get the Ice and Wind ones to test this theory though.
Will the Aero Subzero Scroll be updated with the correct combo now that the Wind Shard and Tome are a thing?
bought 5 amulets to see if that's how you unlock him, got 3 tomes. not bad at all.
