Business Executive Contest - Winners

Please join us in congratulating the winner of the Business Executive Human Avatar Contest - .

We received a tremendous amount of entries - around 850! - and we were really impressed with the caliber of human avatars. Rather than going with five runner-ups, we decided to choose another seven avatars to use in the feature as well. The avatars above were designed by , , , , , , and , in respective order.

The grand prize of 250 CSC will remain the same and each of the seven others will receive a prize of 100 CSC.

Wow, I can't believe my smarmy mustachioed gentleman won! Just goes to show you can't go wrong with a pencil mustache. Yay! (I just noticed he's the only one who isn't holding something! Odd)

Congrats to the rest of the winners! They all look fab!

Our ex-CEO used to show up to work in a plain gray hoodie and jeans. I guess that outfit would have never won.

As for a female CEO, i always imagined a simple Marissa Mayer (Yahoo's CEO) look.

Feel bad for the bottom right woman, I've been the only brown person in a work environment, the comments you get aren't awesome. (Surprised at how disappointing this collection of winners are, esp first place... judging didn't go super well?)

I was also disappointed that the winning entry was a traditional male HA--he's got facial hair so that pretty much sums it up, it's probably not female. As I mentioned earlier, I was born in 1955, so I'm nearly 60. I was hoping that the views of people had changed a bit so that the number one business executive could actually be a woman! This is why the US has never had a woman in the White House (not yet) because even on a site where the staff are probably all under 35 the idea of what is to be taken seriously (who is most believable as an executive) is male. At least one of the HA's that appear to be female (of the other winners) looks more serious and business like than the one that won. They're all well done, I'm "just saying. . ."

with 850 entries and you being "really impressed with the caliber of human avatars" this just begs the question of why the hell are two of them wearing literally the same outfit, (arguably three if you count the white haired lady because it's basically true except save for very small differences ) also a+ diversity in skin tones amirite. no but im seriously getting the feeling that choosing the one black HA who is wearing basically the same outfit as another HA entry was a cop out. yikes.

Congrats to all!! ^_^ is my absolute favorite by far! You rock! <3 Yeah... the two girls wearing the same outfit.... shouldn't that have been a 'who wore it best' moment in the judging to pick one? :/ Or did we look at the winners all white and say "There's a different color base, grab it!" That entry would be great on it's own if it had eyebrows. But the two same outfits?? Pick one.

Though the uniformity in the winners makes me even more curious about the feature coming out. I wonder if it's an "assimilate!" sort of company... plot? Maybe the two matching girls will be besties who like to pretend they're twins. Or maybe they're adopted sisters so they play it up... who knows lol REASON HAS NO PLACE HERE!

Honestly, all of the HAs being so ridiculously identical really bothers me, but the fact that they're all wearing the same colors (navy/gray/black/white) isn't a true peeve in my opinion. I'm not sure where some of the commenters on this announcement work, but those colors are considered professional and are very common in the workplace for that very reason. In fact, some workplaces would consider it against their dress code to where more colorful/fun attire. Maybe that was just the type of formal wear that the staff (or whoever voted) saw fit for this particular feature they are working on. Could they have chose one colorful person just to mix things up? Sure. (They would probably be considered the quirk in the office) XD Bottom line the "clone" look they've got going on is down right irritating, but the color scheme doesn't seem like a true issue to me.

Yet I feel that this is how it was judged.

Again, the issue is not with the avatar makers, but how it was described and how it was judged.

I decided to create looks that I knew wouldn't win... because I pretty well what kind of look would win from the very beginning. Most likely male... With a pleasant approachable appearance and a fairly monochrome color scheme. Ta-da! Proven correct... Whatever. I understand they had a certain look in mind. (That does beg the question as to why they decided to turn this into a contest... But...) The part that bothers me is they didn't reward diversity among the runner-ups.

Still, congrats to all the winners! You all did create lovely HAs. I just wanted a few wild looking execs I guess. LOL

I dunno why people think this is about conservatism in the modern workplace or something. They weren't holding a contest for Most Average Businesswear.

: I totally hear what you're saying. I truly would have liked to see more variety in the winners, since there are many types of business executives. The non profit businesses don't have to be "as corporate" as others, but they still have to attract people with money cause they need money to do whatever it is they're trying to do. Unfortunately money makes the world go around and I think the pretty dress (with or w/out a blazer) is a great look for the office, but it probably would never fly in corporate places (big law firms and I'm too tired to think of other examples).

It would be SO great to live in a world where money and competition don't exist (Star Trek, the federation of planets, a peaceful world w/out competition) and if we DID live in that world it would be great to dress any way you wanted to (and still be taken seriously). It seems that in most sci-fi stories about Utopian futuristic places everyone wears nondescript "uniform" clothing. But wouldn't it be great if we could be at peace and not competitive and still wear pretty dresses--or ANY sort of clothing that doesn't look conservative? I think we're on the same page here.

I've been working for the same business for 5 years, I saw our CEO every morning at 9:15am, for about six months and I never saw him wear a black suit with a light blue tie.

He favored cream. And navy. And purple.

Moral of the story : my boss is more creative in his ways of dressing up than Subeta's creative department is, when it comes to choose business wears.

Shucks. One day I will at least place in one of these things. Oh well. Congrats to the winners! I guess Subeta has less business-y attire than I thought as I see a lot of similarities between the winners. 0_o I saw most of these items in the wardrobe and thought that people would use them, which proved correct, and so I tried my best to differentiate myself by not using them, if I could help it. Note to self: Next time go with the crowd. xD

idk, I worked with an executive director of a national non-profit, and she just wore colorful print dresses appropriate for an office. Actually, I never saw the women at the office wear suits or even a blazer over a nice top and pants. I blazered the hell out of the place though xD honestly I think I was expecting more blazer + dress combos.

I think part of why there's so much monochrome and little variety is that the contest didn't really specify whether they wanted a more "financial sector" executive or a "design/arts" executive, because people working in the latter fields have a lot more leeway clothing-wise than people who work in a more old-fashioned corporate environment (as far as I know). Without that distinction made or what the contest was actually for revealed to us, a lot of entries probably toed the "more conservative" line, meaning less colour and fewer risks taken.

I appreciate your views but Subeta is not going to be the best platform to post your manifesto on business attire. It's a petsite, it doesn't have to follow the real world that precisely.

Food for thought: I was born in 1955 and I witnessed first hand the revolution in our society (at least in the US) away from conservative culture. There were actually many revolutions, but in particular the revolution away from "the establishment" (think "hippy" or watch Mad Men for a very well expressed example of this) and as much as people have tried (cause that was 50 years ago) the idea of what constitutes a "business executive" hasn't changed much. Part of me likes this (the uniformity, the conservatism) even though I am NOT conservative, and part of me feels sad that the world still revolves around this image that a business pro must look very "buttoned up" and not particularly colorful, everyone in grey, black and white, etc.

So I guess this is still the overwhelming idea of what's needed at work in a professional environment in order to look the part.

I can only say that I think the main reason this is still overwhelmingly the ONLY way you can dress (and be taken seriously) if you're working in almost any sort of office is this: People do NOT want to be distracted from the business at hand by anyone's clothing. This is the reason that everyone still dresses "alike" in the real world of "being taken seriously" and why (I think) it's reflected in the choices for winners of this contest.

There's a very good reason why people dress to all look alike (same reason that children wear uniforms in some schools) and that is: if you remove the distractions of style and competition to "out do" someone with what you're wearing (at work, at school) it helps everyone to focus on the job at hand (or the schoolwork, which is why some schools require uniforms). So it seems that the world still operates on the principle that if everyone looks the same (not too flashy or colorful or interesting) that people will be focused on the job, getting it done and doing it "right."

I think that's why the winners all look so much alike. I'm not "in the world" so I only see it through movies and a bit of TV, but I see that even 15 yrs into the 21st century, the very conservative "look" is still the preferred look for offices where business is being conducted. It might be boring but it keeps people from spending a lot of time discussing who's wearing what and spending more time doing their job.

I think this "suit and tie" look (for everyone and in most developed countries of the world) is here to stay. Unless you're working in your studio as an artist (of ANY sort) the expectation is that you "look the part" and fit in and all look alike. I was never a conformist and I didn't want to be promoted into a dead end middle management job so I did NOT dress this way in the business world. I've always liked "pushing the envelope" but I think these contest choices truly DO reflect the expectations of "professional decorum" and even if I don't necessarily like that the world is still very conservative in this way, it seems this is the way it is.

I suppose there were entries that were quite different than this one look--and if there were it's sad that some were NOT chosen, because there ARE different types of businesses and in a few (at least) dressing in a more flashy and less conservative way might be more the norm. But even in an office of a fashion magazine where a lot of the folks are wearing more colorful and "experimental" clothing the CEOs and anyone who is "meeting the public" is still dressing in this "uniform" because it's expected and it says to everyone they come in contact with "we mean business" and that idea is what the world "turns" on.

So I just read over all that I wrote and I've repeated myself (thoughts, concepts, ideas) at least 3 times (and that's just me) and I'm much too tired to edit my own comment, so that's the way it goes.

, it would still be a popularity contest, even if anonymous. All you need to know is how someone dressed their HA. Anything that is user voted turns into a popularity contest. I refuse to enter any user voted contests because I'm not popular and would have no chance of ever winning.

You know what's funny tho? Actual regular ol' exec professionals, like... wallstreet types- they don't own drawing tablets... just sayin'.

Rather disappointed that out of all the ones you sifted through you ended up choosing 2 with nearly the same outfit. I don't understand why everyone thinks that being a business pro means black, but okay... whatever. I had considered going that route myself, but thought when you said you wanted variety, you meant it. So okay then.

It was fun playing with everything, even if the beta wardrobe doesn't work quite well for these types of contest (not every item is available in beta). But still, good to try something new!

Congrats to the winners though! Will be interesting to see why this was done and what it's for!
