SNOWBALL FIGHT!

Earlier today, the shopping district of Subeta was rocked by turmoil as a debate raged on between two shop owners: Tobias of the Toy Box, and Dolly of the Candy Shack. I was able to determine the source of the turmoil in my exclusive interview with Dolly this afternoon:

“Tobias thinks he’s SO cool running the toy shop, like it’s somehow BETTER than my candy shop. I mean come on, no stupid toy is ever going to be as awesome as getting a whole box of CANDY for Luminaire!”

At this point, Tobias interjected:

“Dolly, you are the stupid one. Like candy would ever be better than toys! Candy is gone in like, 2 minutes but toys can be played with all Luminaire! “

“Pfft, your cheap toys always end up broken in 2 minutes, and then you’ve got a broken toy AND no deliciously full belly. Sorry not sorry, but candy is obviously the winner.”

“There’s only one way we can settle this. You want to snowball fight for it?”

“HECK YEAH I DO!”

I bravely tried to petition for a cease snowball, but it seems that these fierce titans of industry cannot be reasoned with, though I did get them to agree to a set of rules in order to keep the frostbite at bay! As well as battling for honor, the two shopkeepers are willing to give a few prizes to those that help them out.

For participating:
• Team-themed achievement and title

• 3 retired Melody’s Cottage items

• Trow Trophy for your profile!

In addition to the participant prizes, the winning team will receive:

• 2 retired Melody’s cottage items

• A special winter themed wearable

And that's not all! You can also win a team-themed item from your own team’s captain if you manage to throw a certain amount of snowballs over the course of the battle. The top 10% of snowball throwers from either team will also receive a special achievement and title!

To find out more and to join the fight, I’ve been informed to tell you to GO HERE!

There is also now a Luminaire forum for you to find potential targets! All Luminaire threads have been moved there, make sure to only hit members of the opposing team! Also, you can only be hit by snowballs if you choose to participate in the fight!

Who will rise victorious and who will get the cold shoulder? Only time will tell!

The team prize is currently 'Earned for having more than 0 snowballs thrown at the end.'

It was in the high thirties yesterday, and I think in the high 20s when I started. I can't imagine what mysterious process is calculating these numbers, but it seems odd to have it at all if it's going to be so indecisive

's first comment at the bottom (even though it doesn't ping) I've come to throw with you again.... Or am I the only simon and garfunkel nerd on here <3

All I can say is that the teams had been pretty well tied all this time even though it 'looked' so unfair to so many. Dolly had about 1/3 more members and threw about 1/3 more snowballs so the average was tied. Now a few days in with all this negativity and griping about teammates who are mostly trying their hardest but dealing with shortcomings (their busy RL, slower computer, moral objection to autorefreshers, lack of sp) and NOW team dolly is slipping. If I was doing my best and getting put down for it I would probably stop throwing too. TEAM spirit, if you don't like joining in/depending on others for a team event, you shouldn't have joined a team. Ragging on others who aren't doing as well as you is a recipe for disaster. How many projects/sports teams/homes can run effectively with the best members putting down everyone else and telling them they should never have joined up? Take a breath, click your pixels, cheer everyone on, and let the snowballs fall where they may! ^^ FUN ^^ GO TEAM TOBIAS!

Skimming the the first few comments I say there should be a team event every month! Everyone gets along so well. It's harmony

I'm honestly curious: why do you care so much? Both teams get almost the exact same prizes in the end. Events such as these may have what people see as "unfair" but that's to be expected. Both teams have slackers and both teams will have those who throw an inordinate amount of snowballs. Also, your solutions don't seem fair. By counting the top 1500 throwers (which is pretty much all of team tobias, so you are giving that team an advantage, and I assume you are in dolly... I don't think you would like that), you are discounting the efforts of everybody else in the team, which also defeats the purpose of the team itself. The average is the best compromise, because if it was based off the amount of snowballs thrown, everybody may as well have agreed to join one team and not join the other, and there would be no competition because everybody wins.

It would make FAR more sense to either score based on the top 1500 throwers for each team, or just bloody well count every single snowball thrown. This average crap is ridiculous. X( No, no one should be forced to participate if they don't want to, or "have a life outside the game", but neither should those spending as much time and SP on this be forced into getting dragged down because some people joined just for the free items and don't want to participate in the throwing.

And now the number of members for each team is back down to a reasonable number. The main page for this event is confusing as it keeps changing quite drastically. At one point this morning it showed over 10k people on one team and over 8k people on the other team...there aren't even that many active players on site I'm pretty sure. Whatevs. I'm still chucking away :)

Nobody should have to do anything or be forced to participate if they don't want too...but then people like me who DO want to participate and want to participate hard, shouldn't have to be stuck in a group with you being dragged down while you harp on about 'just because I have a life...' bla bla bla If you have a life, great! While I was enjoying the snowball fight, I disagree with the scoring. I'm putting sP into this and have thrown over 1000 snowballs for my team. Yet my score is less than it was this morning (338). Thanks to this scoring system you've created, I feel this 'fight' is now a virtual waste of time and resources.

Sorry to disappoint the people complaining about "dead weight," but there are some people here who are grown-ups with things to do during the day (and some of us work most of the night, too - especially this time of the year.)

There are players who don't run auto-refreshers, who have to click, and click, and click, and click for each individual snowball thrown, and that's not JUST incredibly boring: if you have a repetitive stress injury like I do, it gets painful after about ten or fifteen snowballs, and you need to stop for a little while to let it subside. If your JOB already involves a lot of small, repetitive motions (i.e. making jewelry, art, handicrafts, etc,) and you're already -tender-, then all those pauses add up fast. And no, people in that position don't HAVE to push themselves and risk more severe pain and potentially further INJURY just to satisfy your INTERWEB GAMES IS SRS BZNS drive.

And on the subject of auto-refreshers? Not only are those CHEATING, but a lot of people aren't playing on machines capable of running them. Again, I'm not going to risk something in REAL LIFE (i.e. my computer) just to make someone happy online.

And some people? Might just be Subeta-poor, or dedicating a substantial chunk of SP to Luminaire gifts, and playing as their personal finances allow.

So chill the frag out, and respect that a lot of people don't have the physical, mental, financial, and/or technical ability or drive to do something as SRS BZNS as throwing digital snowballs ALL DAY LONG (or programming/installing a cheat bot to do it for them.)

Holy crap! There are people who have thrown over 5k snowballs already? JFC! Why am I bothering? With numbers like that, there is no way I will ever come anywhere close to the top 10% unless I download an auto refresher. Even then, I don't see how after not throwing thousands these first two days I would ever catch up. Sigh. I have a question though...do the snowballs that we throw that are "deflected" by someone wearing the shield count towards our amount thrown or are those a complete waste?

I liked it better when it was just the cumulative score for events like these. At least if you did participate you could do so at your leisure and to the extent you desired instead of basically being forced to participate because otherwise you'd be a deadweight. I don't mean to damper anyone's spirits but I'm at the point where I'm wishing there was a retire option so I didn't have to participate anymore. It'd be nice if there was something like that maybe your final score is still counted but you'd be considered a 'retired' member and not be counted in the average. That way people who want to throw what they want can, leave, and allow others to continue as they please without causing frustration. xD Just my two cents.

Yeah personal scores definitely should count for more than just the achievement and title! I'm sorry I'm dragging you down hun, I'm usually a fan of competitive team things but the timing of this is just crappy for me; when I get here I just want to relax and finish my Luminaire shopping rather than mindlessly refreshing a page. x_x

I agree with whoever said that there should be a way to opt out. But then again I don't think it's fair that some people shouldn't be allowed to join and get the cute trophy/team item just because they can't throw 500+ snowballs or whatever people expect everyone to throw. I've always liked that Subeta is more relaxed with events and you don't have to play all day everyday to keep up.

True xD Then I think it should have been total snowballs thrown or our own personal scores because honestly, when your bunched into a team that really, you didn't create...you can't exactly force them to participate if they don't want too (and whether they want to or not is up to them - no one should be forced) Now I like to think that I'm not a bi**h but things like this do bring out a bit of an ugly side because I'm quite competitive and don't like losing....well its out of my hands when I'm stuck on a team with people I didn't choose to be with...if that makes sense? We've thrown nearly twice as many as snowballs as tobias but we're still losing because people are joining and throwing like one snowball or something, yes I'm annoyed because of this because I feel like I'm working hard on it but it doesn't matter, what I'm doing isn't even making a difference because a lot of people are doing nothing. Its like your fate is in other peoples hands...and it sucks butt xD

Even if people couldn't see which team was winning, more people would probably join Dolly because more people on this site like the girly cutesy stuff. That was the point I was trying to make earlier- not everyone is joining the team just because they think it's winning.

(Idk why I put pings here as I know they don't work lol!) If sign-ups were closed after 24 hours we'd probably be doing even worse now. From what I saw most people hopped onto Dolly's side within the first day. ^-^;

"There are going to be people on BOTH teams who don't "pull their weight." And there are going to be people on BOTH teams who spend hours refreshing. And there are going to be people on BOTH teams who join whatever team they think will win and not contribute. Or DO contribute. Just because one team has more or less people doesn't mean they do or don't "deserve" to win, yeah? Both teams are being super hardworking, yeah?"

^I couldn't agree more. ^-^ Although I would be happy if Tobias' team won just because I don't see them spending their time bitching at their own teammates on the forums/in news posts. Maybe that's why they're winning lol! The member counts aren't even that far apart now.

It's day two and because of the 5 second rule I'm getting really bored of throwing. managed 5K yesterday but only 500 today and not sure if I can keep going like this over the weekend ;u;

Or you could give people 24/48 hours to join a team before the event even starts and then close sign ups...that way, people won't just join because the team looks like it's winning... Not online for 48 hours? Too bad

But honestly I think this should have been done either overall snowballs thrown or personal snowballs thrown because it's hard not too be bitter at the dead weight when your arm is falling off from trying.
