New Feature: Live Events!

I am proud to announce a brand new feature updating our event system: Instant event notifications.

Your events tab on the left hand side of the layout now has an event "counter" bubble with a number amount of events you have, and when you receive a new event, the counter will update automatically without having to refresh the page. These updates are LIVE!

Along with this, a larger speech bubble giving you the alert will popup at the left corner of your screen. See a preview below:

Live Events

This feature is experimental and we realize that bugs will come out of this. Please report all bugs for this in the Problems & Bugs Forum.

If you are having problems with this new event feature, please try and clear your browser's cache (ie: CTRL + F5)

Note from Keith: Make sure to take a look at your <a href=/preferences.php?act=sidebar>sidebar preferences! You might be able to change to 'Dashboard' because of this ;)

Updated Note: Sometimes the event dispatcher will not notice you are online, and therefore not send you a live notification bubble. It does this when you are in between page loads. So, if you get an event when you are in between page loads, you will not get the bubble. However, you will get the event on your next page in your events tab similar to the old system.

Also, I deleted all of my events, and they are still there. Delete them again and now I'm at -4.

This does make it easier, however for me I noticed the Number isn't actually beside 'events' but rather right by my name even after changing layouts. Is there away to fix this?

I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. I hate when I have events I don't want to delete and can't see my dashboard, but if I switch it to smart I never check my events xD Thanks for this!

I did have Events as a widget so I wouldn't have the switching to-fro Dashboard / Events thing going on. I'm one that doesn't care for this feature and will wait for the option to disable it.

If the bubble is not correctly showing for you, then I suggest you do a hard refresh, and clear your cache with Ctrl + F5.

- In the future you will be able to disable it. Right now we just want to test it out on everyone and get feedback about it. Thank you!

This is really great! It's a very cool feature haha

I do wish there was a way to turn it off, though? I know I totally sound like a party pooper but I actually have the Events box on my Dashboard (so that I don't have to switch between my Events/Dash). The little number is kind of distracting and not something I need!

But it's not ruining my life or anything haha but it'd just be neat to have an option to disable the live notifs.

This looks great! The number isn't parsed as a bubble for me though, something with the overflow may be wonky, as the event count goes to the next line. D;

I have one suggestion. ^^ The number and the little bubble it is in should be different colors. Perhaps red bubble and white, black, or electric blue number? :) That way it is more noticeable.

Thank you!!! I pretty much never see my dash because I am a procrastinator and use events to remind me to do stuff, so I basically stare at that all the time. I didn't want to switch from smart mode because then I was scared I'd always miss stuff new events. BEST OF BOTH WORLDS THANK YOU SO MUCH I LOVE THIS.
