To everyone who seems to think I'm 'worrying' about the popularity idea, I'm not. Christmas isn't about gifts for me; I don't get them on here or IRL, but my Christmas is one of the most merry ones I've seen. For my family, Christmas is a feeling that lasts all month. It's not about how many presents you have: it's about how many you give.
I simply stated my opinion because my sister and I had been talking about it, that's all. Popularity doesn't really matter to me; I'm an anime nerd, for God's sake. ;) Christmas and Luminaire are all about the feeling.
Who cares about the popularity idea? I think it is a great feature. The holiday season is not always about getting, you know. :)

When gifts open are they anonymous or will you see who the gifter was?
It was based off of a KeithLivestream thing-y where he said the replacement was coming out on the 10th. I do believe that's where the 'late' griping is coming from.
This is my first Luminaire here so I'm pretty excited about it.:) I'm sad that I gave out most of my gifts already, but that just gives me the opportunity to give out a few smaller ones.
Anyone manage to catch a progression of pile growth? (lol that doesn't sound right)

I really like this feature a lot. it looks nice in the profiles too. I just gave out all my gifts. There weren't many, but I'm finally done with Luminaire shopping!
IDK what to tell you then if you don't like the forum games, I guess you just need to get out there and build friendships with folks. Popularity has nothing to do with it, if you only have five friends and they like you a whole bunch, you might get more gifts than someone with 200 friends.
Honestly I don't think someone is gonna come across a profile with a less pile of gifts and think "lol what a loser". . . It's not about how much you get but the fact your friends (or random people thought of you enough to take a moment to gift you shrug)

Personally I love this new feature, and think the art and the growing piles are utterly ADORABLE. Also, just because the piles grow with more gifts, doesn't mean its showing off popularity, and even if it was, what's the big deal? :l I have a lot of gifts already on my profile, not because I'm popular, I'm probably far from it, but because I have 1-2 friends who giftbombed me. A lot of gifts =/= popular, it usually equals kind and generous friends.

I did most of my gifting already; still, interesting feature. I didn't see what people meant by growing piles, though, seeing as my profile's pile looks almost identical to the one in the news; I had to visit others' profiles to see what you all meant about it reflecting popularity.
Here's the thing. I may have a large pile of gifts, but almost nobody on Subeta knows who I am. I giftbombed a friend earlier this month; I'm almost certain that every single present on my profile is from her as payback for the roughly twenty gifts I sent. Will people see that and suddenly think I'm popular? ...I guess it could, but that's really not the case. Most years I only received one or two items in my stocking from people other than Melody. Anyway... while the feature can reflect popularity, I think some people should remember the tendency to gift bomb here. When you see a large pile and glance at your smaller pile, it could just mean there is a gift war going on. A gift the person above you thread could easily remedy small piles as well.
I don't understand those griping saying this feature was "late". Was it ever stated anywhere that every single thing having to do with Luminaire HAD to be initiated in the first day or so? That would make things stale and boring by the end of the first week. :P Guess some just have to find SOMEthing to gripe about all the time.
And anyone who would compare themselves to others to try to show they are more popular are just sad so I wouldn't worry about who's got the biggest pile of presents.

- Sorry, I see the whole gift the person above you thing as a way of begging for gifts. Just my opinion. I just feel that if someone wants to gift you, they will, and if they don't then they won't, you don't have to make them do so by posting in a forum where you are basically asking for it. That's just how I feel though, not sure what other people think.
Actually there is a gift the person above you thread in Achievements, so go forth and claim the person above you. No need to be forever alone on here! :)

Don't really like the idea of the pile growing and agree with the prior people, it can show how popular/well liked you are (or aren't). I like the stockings better since they didn't grow

I agree with Japan...I think the growing gift piles are an example of popularity. :c That's why I have a hand-made link with a single present -- nobody needs to know how popular or unpopular I am.
I like that we can gift users via profiles now. I am bummed, however, that we had to wait so long for it. I did a lot of my gifting via the Gift System, so most of my friends got their gifts already. :c Looking forward to the next part of this, though! :D
Because you can link to it, you can remove the illustration if you prefer. People clicking through will see it, though. BUT THEY'LL BE MAKING IT INCREASE ANYWAY SO...

IT'S ABOUT GIVING RIGHT. I sort of the liked the COMPLETE mysteriousness of stocking but am excited to see how this plays out?
Aka I hope this isn't discouraging to people who see their profile and are like "dang my present pile is small", I can just imagine the boards.

...I like the concept, but it looks like just another way to judge how popular you are on this site. :/ If you don't have a lot of gifts, not a lot of people know you or like you. Seems a bit like you're showing off your popularity or absence of it. shrugs But that's my opinion. I'm certain I'm wrong. Looking forward to the new stuff.

Not liking this new gifting feature at all....I tried to leave a comment for one of my friends and all it kept doing was bumping me to the gifting window grrrrr....
Aww as you give more, the presents increase on their profile xD. I wonder if the receivers get an event saying who gifted them?

As for this making Luminaire gifting "easier", it doesn't. The stockings worked smashingly for that. Why a new/different feature was needed I'll never understand. This way actually makes it more tedious and not quite as enjoyable (to me at least). Either way, we had to go to our friends' profiles to deposit the gifts.
