Something in the cold air turns sweet pets into savage predators. Is no species safe? Even the petite bloodred jollin has succumbed to the craze!

For many of the reasons already mentioned about the face, the ears, and the odd sort of hanging pose, I'm not a fan of this one, even if it's how foxes are "supposed" to pounce. It's like catching someone mid-blink in a photo. Yes, it happens. Yes, it also looks really silly when paused like that.
Jollin =
grabby hands
Seriously? The Jollin? :/ I wish you guys would get to older species first but aside from that...
The face is just...weird. It looks like his mother's calling mid-pounce and hey, if that was the look you were going for, GREAT, ya nailed it but it does look weird to those of us who don't get the joke.
The blood splatter--Now, this has been bugging me for the past couple BR additions but they at least looked good--it just doesn't make sense and there's flowing problems. If the Jollin got blood on it's tail or was bleeding from it, it would be drenched with it. Not just three, pretty looking but practically random streaks/trails of it. It's called BLOODRED people. I expect there to be lots of it. And the spots of blood just makes me think of popped zits. -.-;
5/10
The face looks like " I don't care"and I totally agree with everything Lightbrite said BUT that is the reason why I LOVE it. I hope it doesn't get changed, but I'm just going to save the pic just in case it does get changed.
So i took some time to think about this one, then came back to look at it again. The second time I saw it i almost lol'd. It's just too cute, or something, for me to take it seriously. It doesn't have a sinister glare or anything threatening. It looks like an irate cat being tossed from it's favorite sleeping place.
So... unappealing..
You know at first, I wasn't a huge fan of this - but now that I see the connection to the hunting of a fox, it has SO much more spirit. I rather picturing it caught bounding off something higher, down onto something below - maybe something big, even. l3 I think it's up to interpretation! Meanwhile, the art is gorgeous, love the spirit behind it. <3 Well done!
I like it it~ But the ears and the back legs.
True, it's an arctic species, but its look is very much fennec-based. The ears are, at least - and that was what I intended to point out, in response to your comment about the ears. ![]()
Actually from what I've been told, they live in the arctic area, which wouldn't make much sense for a desert-dwelling fennec! I guess that's why they have so much fur in their ears.
I think it should be more like this.
edit
But that's just me.
Actually, the pet is based on a fennec fox, which does have ears that long. (They wouldn't be held up poker-straight like that though, you're right - even at their highest set, they'd have space between them.)
As for the pose... so, this insane, vicious, bloodthirsty creature is ferociously attacking... a mouse cowering underground? Maybe the art captures the spirit of a hunting red fox (and it does), but what it's missing is the spirit of the bloodred color. It seems like a bloodred pet should be trying to tear MY throat out, not that of some little rodent. More extension in the legs and ears flattened back would convey that image better.
Not complaining, really; I totally understand and appreciate the realism in basing it on a pouncing fox pose. I just think that's probably why people are saying the pose looks awkward - it makes an odd combination with the bloodred color, which is normally far more vicious and insane than subtle and unthreatening.
Meh, I like the spots and tail but not the pose. :/
Yay! Its nothing like what I imagined the bloodred jollin to look like but Its still awesome. Here comes another new look for Scarlette (How am I going to afford all these new overlays I'll need?) XD
Great job Rah x3
Im sorry you couldnt go through with your first instinct, Rah. I think it would have been beautiful looking at its imaginary target. The look to the viewer completely disarms the fierceness of the pose, and makes the Jollin look sleepy and peeved more than fierce.
But the bloody spots are just too cute!
Creepy. u
I have to agree with most of the sentiments that it just looks... strange. I understand that that's how real foxes pounce, but real foxes don't have foot-long ears (don't get me wrong, I love me some giant ears), and the ears are what bother me more than anything else about this pet. Unfortunately, the positioning of them here makes it look like a Conehead to me.
I guess I just feel some concessions should have been made to allow for the jollin's unique anatomy. They still could have been mostly upright without forcing the "cone" look. I also have to echo that its eyes seem more "sleepy" than anything.
I'm in love with the fur, to end on a positive note
It looks absolutely gorgeous and plush and touchable, even if this jollin would try to eat me.
I vant to suck your bloood
I've seen that exact face on a red fox that was none-too-happy with me stumbling across her and what was left of her rabbit dinner. I absolutely love how well you captured it...although it's still so creepy to see it again XD
I'm not a huge fan of this one, but it's pretty nonetheless :]
I like it! The eyes are a bit weird though.
EEK! ... wicked cool man. =)
I also agree with Hylas - the eyes and pose don't match each other. If it were looking at us, but in a different pose, it'd be fine; if it were looking at whatever it was pouncing on, the pose wouldn't look so strange. it's the combination of the two that makes it look off to me. XD
I love you Subeta c:
I don't like this one much, but nonetheless the art is gorgeous.
Also, it took me a second glance to notice, but the reddish-gray shading on the lighter parts of the body is really gorgeous.
Not my favorite of the Jollin, but nice work =]
Omg...Adorable!
Now...To have a Reborn and I'll be set for my Jollin Army. xD
- no that's totally fine and doesn't offend me
I could completely see why a lot of people would be turned off by this pose, but it's something I just love watching foxes do, and the freeze-frame aspect of it just really intrigued me. That an animal, in the point before it kills another animal, could look so subtle, or so non-threatening, like it's so natural it doesn't have to contort it's body into any sort of extreme aggressive pose...well, that's kind of fascinated me. I've planned to do this for this jollin ever since the start!
I would have liked to make him look at the ground/what he was pouncing on but BR pets are supposed to be looking at the viewer, so I figured he would have an angry look on his face from being disturbed at the very last second!
I actually REALLY like the expression that this Jollin has! He looks like he's all 'yep finished killing someone, going out for tea now' and it just makes me giggle. I think the pose is done well and I love seeing the Jollin's ears positioned in a new way?
LOVELY PET OVERALL RAH!
the ears are what got me as well. but you know the more I look at them the more I like them? it gives them a kindof funny air, kinda like a jack o lantern, all spindly and mess. P: though I'm not sure that made since to anyone else XD; anyway I think it gives it that tiny creepy feeling, perfect for Halloween ♥
Pounce~
Maybe, but my opinion is that they just seem a little weird (take no offense to that, please.. I say "weird" for lack of a better word). It's kind of like when you pause a movie and catch an actor in a funky pose. Normally they wouldn't look weird doing whatever they are doing, but when it's paused those normal things just look funny. Like I said, I still like the pet(probably one of my favorite BR actually), I just think the ears in particular are odd because of the "freeze frame" aspect.
I have loved every Jollin colour so far but I have to admit I'm just not feeling this one. It is an amazing pose but I agree with
Hylas, it's the eyes that make it look odd.
It's great. Love the pose.
- jollin ears are mobile. They can move them/twist them around.
I've always wondered something: why do the BR pets have one red eye and one green?
Noooot really my thing, but it's cool that my favorite species is getting so many new colors lately.
I don't think it looks bored o_O I think his face is all like T_T YOU WANNA MESS WITH THIS? RLY? K.
Gorgeous nonetheless.
Oh Jollins, why you so luvverly.
Art is gorgeous, but I think the only problem for me at least is the eyes. It is looking away from whatever it is pouncing at, and for me I think that is what makes the pose seem a little 'off'.
Ok, I can only direct you guys to this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dP15zlyra3c
Foxes, when jumping on underground prey, have their ears up/forward and their bodies hang almost limply in the air if you take a snapshot. I'll accept that you may not think it looks right because real life poses don't always translate well into cartoon images for some people; but not that the pose is outright wrong! Also, the video is really neat so you should all watch it anyway ![]()
At first, I thought it looked wicked and immediately of using one of my pet slots for it but once I saw it, it was a total let down for me. Doesn't look terrifying at all, as others have stated, it has an appearance of annoyed and bored.
YOU'RE KILLING ME RAH. ♥ Love it ♥
o.0; now that is one twisted pet, awesome
It's so cute- AAAAAAAAAAA
jfdska awww, it looks like a baattt ;o; ♥ Ohman...resisting the urge to do the Dracula voice. And failing. XD
The red spots look so great on this. I cannot see the pose without thinking vampire, though, omg. It's fantastic. XDD
I am a huge fan of all the love the jollins are getting lately!
Foxes -do- pounce with their ears like that, and they pounce basically straight up and then back down again. Look it up ![]()
He seems a bit bored for a bloodred pet, but I do like that his spots are all bloodied.
lol @ all the baww
Love it! Good job.
