I agree, I really doubt they're lost. Iirc, this happened earlier in the year and they got it fixed just fine. Hopefully this time will be no different!

(And worse case scenario, there's a chance the overlays could be pulled off the wayback machine if there's no other option.)

The worst thing is, that it's adding to the lag big time, because the site keeps searching for the images!

"Staff is aware of it" - yeah, but still it didn't keep them from choosing a custom pet for spotlight, whose image on top is broken on their profile as well.

I'll be the first to say that yes, the issue of missing overlays is annoying and frustrating (dealing with two myself), however let's be honest with ourselves, lag issues are always a big part of subeta events, have been for years. Way more people than the site is used to on the regular are using the site and reloading tons of pages trying to tot, gather pumpkins, visit the patch, and egg/tp various things. Granted I don't think the site searching for the issues is helping the lag situation, but do we have proof that it's a major factor in the lag compared to the rest of that?

Also, unless I'm mistaken, spotlight winners are put into a queue which are then auto-published. Considering this issue is a fairly recent development, I'm more inclined to believe said spotlight pet was in the queue before this issue arose, rather than the staff picking something with a clear issue.

Again, this is a frustrating and annoying issue, no disagreement there. But maybe let's not start heaping blame on people trying their best to keep an over 20-year-old site running when we ourselves don't know the cause of the issue?
