we have a color tweak update! I did both a brighter red and the kind of steely purply blue so we could see what they looked like.

you absolutely can! I'll see what I can do - there's plenty of pink and gold designs out there on the internet, and I think they work well when they're pulled off, so we'll pick at it until it's just right!

I'm getting started on our gemstone as I get closer to finishing this first one. I'm playing with the colors, first, same as before. Tanzanites and the 2 pets you reffed for blues are varied so lmk what one is closest and what color tweaks we need. Ignore the spikes not being colored I'll be trying to make them more like gems when I start making the gal shiny.

I split the base color by A and B, and then the fin fringe is a bunch of test combos. Do you also want those to look more gem-like or leave them the kind of finny feathery look?

That blue looks amazing! Not sure whether I like the mixed colors of corals (reefs have so many colors!) or if they should both be that blue color, but both colors are better than the lighter pink that blended in!

yeah I'm of a similar feeling about it. I like both of them - though I do want to add a bit more Vibrance to the blue one - but I don't want it to be too much with both. And I feel like if the red is only in that one spot it draws the eye there, first, and that might detract from the rest of Spindrift herself.

yeah. I don't know if the red doesn't also make it look like a possible wound (it's a bit bright for that, but a back of my mind thing). Maybe if the front one has the vibrance you want, and the back is sort of less vibrant blue (like the current)?

How exciting! (I'm also excited to see the beach themed pet finished. I love the blues on them too!) I'm really loving the B side for sure, that blue is very eye-catching! Of the fins I'm torn on 3 and 7. Maybe we can do a combo of both of them? Maybe the fins can mostly be 7 and have a stripe of 3 in the middle? I think that'd look neat! We'll leave the fin/feather look as well :3

I think getting rid of the red made this work a lot better for sure. The front one does pop more, but less in a distracting way than the red on its own did. And then the back one is less out of place. Thoughts?

I remembered that I have pen brushes to imitate hair strands and used that on the finny feathery bits to more naturally have the streaks of the blue , and I think I like it a lot with the color combo and the look of the original lineart! The colors also all look really pleasing.

Oh now that looks wonderful! I love the blend! I can imagine her sparkling out in the sun like a gemstone when she decides to leave her cave! I'm loving the combo of all the blues so much. Almost makes me want to get a chibi 8001 to tie in with her lol!

Any chance there is a way to make the BG transparent? If not, if you're ok with it, I can go in with a fine toothed eraser and do it myself.

I'm so glad that you're happy with how it all turned out! It was fun to work on - I always find the dark-to-light recolors to be challenging, which is exactly the kind of distraction needed in this economy. ok belated, but! I did some shinying up. Wondering if I should try and make the back scales look more solid to give off more of a rock feeling?

Also did some loose sketching of spikes and a mace club on the tail end for you to see what that might look like.

But I did want to ask if you meant the yellow of the minion's eyes or if you meant the blue of its body for her eye color. I did the yellow just to see what it looked like.
