They were strongly bonded, and then came the normal trying to establish whose the alpha in the yard. So we have been keeping them apart, like separate times outside. But we kept their kennels right next to each other, so they keep a connection.

exactly!!! My sons knew better, and they sure didnt spend the whole time in the store. With get me this or that, or I want. They towed the line or else.
