Given the feedback on this board already, what about a survey about this / a news announcement drawing attention to the updates as a whole so that a larger portion of the community can weigh in on the downvote feature?
I totally understand what you're saying about having up/down emojis (as well as others) in different things across the site and see how it can be helpful in various ways. But if the resounding voice specific to HAs is "please don't do this" I think it's worth not doing or at least exploring the feedback further.
To be totally honest, it feels like we were asked for feedback but then that feedback got quickly shutdown / ignored. That's discouraging. It feels like our voices aren't actually valued. NOT saying that was the intent of your response, saying that was the impact (for myself and it seems others as well).
I also think about it as - the goal for Subeta is bringing MORE people into the site and while we would hope for the best of everyone who joins, why create a system that is actively not wanted and only really has potential of negative impact (in this specific context not the varied emojis as a whole).
Thanks for considering!
I have never seen a HA and thought, oh I'll downvote that.
Likewise - if there's something I actually react negatively to, I'd post a comment / forum post etc, rather than just leaving a thumbs down.
I think we should encourage positivity. The current heart system works perfectly fine.
just to clarify, this thread isn’t the whole community’s view on the feature 😭. I hear the concern, though, and I really think we’ve thought through how to prevent the kind of issues you’re worried about. plus, we’ve already got ways to address misuse if it starts happening. i outlined a few above, but they come down to including toggles, or completely filtering the 👎 from various of the "reaction" panels. i would still want it possible on posts for example, and it seems like we're not in agreement that they should even be there.
a 👎 isn’t about being negative; it’s about balance and feedback. imagine using it in a quick poll, or for low-stakes votes on ideas, or even, ironically, to vote down this thread if you disagree instead of just commenting!
i’m keeping an eye on this and ready to adjust if needed, but i think this community can use it constructively and isn't going to inherently approach it as a negative tool. let’s try it and see and hopefully 🤞 I'm not proven wrong.
I'm not sure what feedback was asked for, this is an update thread about saved avatars! I appreciate the request for a poll on each of these topics, but I've asked for specific feedback where I'm looking for it and in the end I'm making decisions for the 40,000 active users who user the site monthly while listening to the folks who are able to post on the forums.

You're right, I mixed this up with the current "feedback" boards that are also active. I think there's also been a little mistranslation / misunderstanding, which I apologize for my part in.
Surprised and happy to hear that there are 40k users active on the site. I only see a few hundred active online at most (if the counter is right) so hearing there are way more people still using the site than I thought is encouraging for the future of Subeta.
Also a real part of this is the new ability to add rich text to your outfit: https://kumos.subeta.net/wardrobe/outfit/1466915 like this outfit here.
I can imagine very easily being able to use that space to say:
Use the 👍 to say keep the wig Use the 👎 to say lose the wig Use the 💖 to say do ... idk something else (Those are the default / available reactions, maybe we'll add more! I can also replace the 👎 or remove it, but I really think it might come in handy! I'm okay if I'm wrong immediately)
(sorry i'm not feeling very creative right now 😭) and be able to build out more polls/fun/choice with the page being more customizable.

I feel like every time I finish a post I refresh and have to edit mine to respond to yours 🙃 (that makes it feel like we're almost in real time, how fun!)
Yeah - the number seems high but if you consider most people sign on once or twice a week and do dailies or even just check their comments and sMail. Over the year we have about double that many active users (~80,000) and there are a lot of people who sign on only for one or two events a year, or just sign on once (maybe they have a calendar event with friends they made when they were kids? no idea).
The 200-600 you see online most days are folks who sign on daily, but most of them still don't venture that far into the forums!

Thank you for adding context. I think getting only small pieces of what's coming can at times make it challenging for people to understand the perspective behind some of what is being said.
Haha, I was just thinking the same thing. I also am bad about going back and editing posts more than once because I think of better ways to say things or of things to add. (This post being case-in-point).
Honestly relieved to hear the number is so high!
Circling back to the other things since I did hone in on the downvote option: I really like the "trending" and "recent" pages. Seeing new HAs can give a lot of inspiration and I find some nice items this way, or get ideas on new ways to try things out. Not a ton of people actively use the forums (hope this changes though) so while I see tons of amazing HAs here it will be cool to see others as well (and will maybe be nice for non-forum folks to still get to have the HAs they're proud of seen!). Am excited that we will be able to "mass toggle" (and "mass delete"?). Hoping this will be like a select however many and choose group action kind of thing? I'm not sure how I would use the description in general, but I immediately see a lot of potential for it especially with what it opens up for events / forum games / holidays / etc. Seeing the ideas for text on HAs, I have more hope for the emojis and non-negative use of the downvote (though tbh I'm still wary lol)
Hmm. I have a an idea. To get a more widespread reaction to downvoting HAs (which I don't agree with as well as many others on this thread), is it possible to come out with a poll asking for everyone's opinions? Say "I'm thinking about introducing a downvote option on HAs on the new site. What is your opinion on this?"
downvotes are dumb in general. Why introduce them at all? so much about the site is users sharing their creativity in some way and having the possibility of someone "disliking" your work isn't encouraging or fostering participation.
They really don't make sense for the culture here. The ultimate result is to make that other person feel bad. Is that a hill you wanna die on? Your sticker reactions were way cool and way more useful for the forums and site than stupid basick like/dislike social media features or goofy emoji reactions. It gives a great purpose to sticker collections on site
Also the example of using it for polls... really easy you have the different versions and ask them to heart the one they like best. Or just have comments??? Which you already implied mentioning we could use the system to ask for critique.
I just dont see why you are so into this feature

Thanks for the feedback eveyone - this launched with the composting feature (https://kumos.subeta.net/news/23101) and I decided to not include the 👎. I'll think of a way to present what I thought the use cases would be and have those in a separate feedback thread.
Thanks again, back to saved avatar improvements ;)

I'm late to this this discussion, but is it possible to update the original post to include the exclusion of the downvote option on HAs? I was very concerned there for a second. Glad it isn't being implemented. I don't need anonymous strangers telling me I'm cringe. I'm critical of myself enough as it is.
i know the conversation has already been had and the 👎 is not being moved forward with at this time, but since i arrived late i wanted to share my thoughts. i'm curious what usage you think they would have outside of perhaps polls, since that's the example you've given a few times now. to me it seems like anything where a 👎 might be genuinely warranted that isn't just being negative for the sake of it, other than perhaps a poll, could easily be instead handled via a report, and is where it should be handled instead. and speaking in terms of good surveying, limiting people to a few ambiguous reactions instead of the ability to write out more specific options for a multiple choice radio button people choose from seems like a poor way to implement polls anyway.
i hope that makes sense! the only time i could ever see them having a use case beyond that would be if... well, we weren't able to have these dialogues and the only way we could communicate our feelings about subeta changes to the staff were by a simple reaction, in which case i'd forsee a lot of 👎s (warranted or otherwise, lol, change can be hard!). but i appreciate that that isn't the case and that instead we have these discussions, and that for the most part everyone is respectful in them! moving forward without it seems like a good choice to me, and i'm thankful that's what was decided on!
as to the rest of the updates, i'm loving these changes so far! having functional tagging is awesome and i've already gone through and updated most of my saved outfits! love being able to add a description too, i'm sure i'll find a use for that!
minor thing: the end of the post says "this thread looks better on kumos forums" but i was completely unable to access it from the siteupdate ping on default subeta, i had to switch to kumos to come find it manually.
