HI EVERYONE. A very persistent (thank you!) reminded me of this thread, I'm taking a look and reading up.

Some things I want to get done today / over the next few days and will be looking for feedback on:

1. Mass read / reading improvements: Making it so that you can select a pet --> "library" --> will show all of the books the pet has read (we already have this), but with a new section that shows all of the books in your inventory and vault that this pet hasn't read, and a "read all" button (and you can select them with a checkbox one by one if you'd like)
2. Pet creation flow - You can see this now here - it tries to pull in a lot more information about the pets, and also show some spotlight winners of those species. Remember that most people only see this page a few times, so I'm not worried about it having too much on it, since they'll only really need to absorb that they can name it whatever they want. Hopefully this shows you an investment in pets, making them more interesting and pulling from all of the various places we've put information about them before into other areas of the site!

and I just wanted to say, i really appreciate all the offers to volunteer — seriously. subeta’s community is WILDLY good-hearted and i don’t take that for granted. i’ve been doing this for free for like 5-6 years now, and while i’ve always felt weird asking people to work without pay, i’m kinda getting over that at this point lol. the truth is: we’ve got the bare minimum staff rn (finance, code, some art, support), and no budget to expand.

that said, i’m thinking hard about where it actually makes sense to bring in help. it’s not as easy as just saying “yes” — a lot of it needs tools, processes, oversight. like the pet spotlight: yeah, volunteers could help manage the queue, but the tool is broken af, and rn the folks who use it just kind of… deal. anything new needs rules, structure, and someone to keep an eye on things so we’re not accidentally bullying a user or something.

even with just communication stuff — we used to have people who’d poke me on slack with “can X get fixed?” or “what’s the deal with Y?” and then they’d report back on the forums. it worked, but they’d get overwhelmed fast when they couldn’t get updates fast enough and folks got antsy. then that cycle would repeat, and they'd ask to be taken out of the slack lol.

this site’s always punched way above its weight. i’ve worked at places w/ 10x the staff doing 10% of what we do. it’s honestly nuts. and that’s thanks to y’all. so yeah — i hear you. i’m thinking about it. and i’ll loop back when there’s a clear way forward. 💖

Bulk Pet Reading

1. Head to the 🆕 pets management page on the Kumos site. This is a 1:1 replica from the legacy site, so expect some changes here, but this is not the page i'm looking for feedback on right now 🫡
2. Click on the ⬇️ next to the pet that you want to read more to and choose books read
3. Now you're on the new page! Click on available to read and you should see something like this:

That has all of your books in your inventory and vault, and you can choose as many, or as few, to read to your pet! You'll get an output like this, with all of your intelligence and alchemy point increases ;)

Let me know what you think, what could be improved, and if there are any changes you'd want to see with a food version of this (outside of ways to make your pets more hungry :P)

I think you clicked 'all' and then 'only inventory' and it didn't uncheck all of those other books :( i'm going to look and see if I can build a way to reverse those books for you. I think I might be able to reverse any books you read today and have those books put into your vault, trying to see if I can string it together!

No worries! I'm going to add more filters to the page, and also a confirmation dialog if you try to read more than 25 at once, just so that it's giving you a sec to go 'wait is that right'.

And I think I'll be able to return your books!

Hey everyone - could you give it another try with one or two low rarity / cost books, and let me know if you get an error?

I'm still able to read fine, and am not sure if it's something that's changed or what 😰

I've tried:

1. Reading books from vault
2. Reading books from inventory
3. Reading books that I have in both places

And it still seems to be working, so any additional data from y'all who've had failures would be very helpful!

And Pet IDs so I can look at your history and 🤞 recover those books
