I didn&;t want it for anything other than finding the male/masculine clothes easy among all the dresses. it wasn&;t anything to do with polictical/ Binary
As a trans person I think it is inherently political to specifically ask that someone else's personal opinions on expressing gender be imposed on a group when gendered clothing (and gender roles in general) are 100% cultural and has been one of many things used through history to enforce a colonizing force's ideals on subjugated populations. What does "masculine" mean to you for example? I think low-cut shirts are masculine because they expose chest hair. You might think they are feminine because they expose cleavage. I would bet that every single person in here would have differences in opinion, and that's fine, but I don't want anyone else's gender roles imposed on me as a trans person.
Like, where are you gonna put a plaid skirt? Is that "feminine" because women often wear them in some places, or is it "masculine" because it could just as easily be used differently by a Scottish man who likes kilts? I'm not comfortable with the idea of enforcing one culture's ideas of what is what when it comes to gendered clothing, especially when people's rights to express their genders are currently under attack worldwide. It's simply not a good idea.
A personal tagging system would be a great idea though as drawers are rather clunky, or site-wide tags defining what the item actually is, for example skirts or pants, etc.
I agree that making drawers would be a better solution for this sort of thing if you want it, or additional sorting options in the wardrobe, that are not just masculine/feminine.
Aside from the fact that clothing shouldn't need to be gendered in the first place (and that with layering tricks, you can make items work for a variety of styles of HA), I think there's too much overlap amongst broad categories to make this kind of thing useful. Dresses, for instance, would probably be considered feminine. How do you sort hats or scarves? A masculine/feminine sorting option for wardrobe items that also includes a massive "Other" section for things that truly don't fit into one of those boxes or that only sorts a handful of layers seems even less helpful than what we have now, IMO.
Now I'm going to go political, since I was @'d about this:
Please don't @ me again like that. Thanks. Because, you're right and I agree, but also, I did not need that drag. I've got road rash enough from daring say I'm descended from Vikings today on another site.

Please keep the discussion at hand to the suggestion.
I'm going to lock this
