Pet trading is HUGE on other virtual pet sites, but I haven't seen anything about it here. Is trading pets allowed on this site? Is it a thing that people do here? I'm not looking for any specific trades at the moment; I am asking mostly out of curiosity.

No, pet trading isn't allowed (link to the relevant rule). You can only adopt pets from/to other users

The rules make it very clear that you cannot trade pets.
