Then it's not much of a hardship to correspond via discord or elsewhere off site... Well. I've said my thing, I think I'm distracting from the point here now so I'll stop.
This isn't a direct response to the above, but more of a general response to the concept of "If you don't like something, then leave."
That's what the problem already is. So many people have already decided they don't like this rule and have left the site because of it.
Genuinely go and look at the Creative forums. Watch them for a few days. For a few weeks even and see how slow they are moving. How few Creatives are left.
The problem with saying 'Then just use discord' is... why stop there? Why stop at just using Discord? Why not move to an entirely different site that isn't taking your wages in the first place?
There are already a lot of artists who have done this. I see artists I met FROM Subeta who are now very active on other websites where they're offering art in USD only.
If Subeta does want to take the route of keeping this rule, artists are going to continue to LEAVE, not just go to Discord as a loophole.
If the point is to completely kill most of these communities, then yeah.. "If you don't like it, leave". shrug
Subeta SHOULD consider a rule change for this.
I see it as a missed opportunity and quite frankly an outdated perspective. While yes, it's understandable why Subeta would have been against artist/graphic designers primarily using the site to make a profit without taking site currency as an option, it does deter those same people from joining. It also further pushes away members from coming back in the case they wanted to sell goods and taking a payment method they want to make.
I don't make art but I do commission artists for art and cw projects. While I respect many of them for only using discord as their means of communication, I know some who only use discord because they do not and will not take csc/sp as a form of payment for their work. Which is understandable and I totally don't mind it. Though, I wish Subeta would give creators the opportunity to offer their services without forcing them to consider a payment they never wanted to take. It's unfair to them and just provides further reason of using off-site methods to get customers.
There is no current reason why Subeta shouldn't allow this after all this time. It was understandable before when the site was starting and growing but now with it's steady userbase, the focus should be keeping said users around. A creator shouldn't have to make alternative methods to get clients here, they should be able to enjoy the site and make a living the way they'd like to.... ><
I can, to an extent, understand requiring CSC/sP slots. As an artist (though I don't really have the time/good enough software/hardware for it anymore), it never bothered me much when I still took commissions. But, I think it depends on the type of art, really.
I think maybe there should be some middle ground, because in a sense, yes, Subeta is giving artists a platform to sell their work on and they don't technically charge for it. Art isn't a necessity to play the game, either. In the case of CWs and custom pet overlays, is where I think the line should be. The site is going to make money on them regardless because they have to be purchased via CSC. For them, I think artists should be able to ask for USD only because subeta is getting a cut. But, art of characters, pet profiles/user profiles, graphics, etc - I personally didn't have a problem keeping one slot to accept site currency and/or art trades. It meant I didn't have to do tedious boring shit like questing and whatnot to make money, which is a pretty useful thing when you're an adult player and work a full-time job but also want to have nice things on here.
And, not for nothing, but if you're using subeta purely as a means to make money off your art and barely/not even playing, then you absolutely should have to keep that CSC/sP slot because at that point you're just using the site as free advertising. This isn't Instagram (thank God).
Also, take into account that some players are minors. They don't have their own bank account, credit card, or paypal - whatever. Should they not be able to get art until they're old enough? I wasn't allowed to buy anything online as a teenager, period - whether it was digital goods or a book on amazon. Absolutely nothing.
I'm in support of artists being able to accept any form of payment that works for them and is reasonable to them.
Check out the news! The rule has been removed. Since this is technically implemented this board will be locked. After the 60 days it will be evaluated a new board by staff for feedback might be implemented. Thanks for suggesting it and granting patience while it was being discussed.
